Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
Jenks has gotten some praise this year. I've seen more than once this in a thread: Jenks! But when your closer (whose job is to close out a game without giving up runs!) fails and causes the team to lose, he deserves to be bashed. So what if people are saying he's fat and has an annoying goatee? He is and he does. When he saves a game, we'll ignore those attributes. When he blows a save, he's a fat ass with bad facial hair.

July White Sox Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) Yep, the Jenks debacle completely overshadowed a pretty pathetic offensive game. The 5-6-7 of Kotsay, Jones, and AJP is embarrassing. Changes have got to be made to this lineup, as you shouldn't have your two hottest hitters batting 8th and 9th and have them followed up by two of the slappiest, crappiest hitters in baseball. Good nicknames for those guys. You could hear Stone reading the lineup: "Slappy leads off, followed by Crappy, then it's Alex Rios..."

Prince Fielder Speculation
I know that Ozzie is supposed to say the team is fine, but damn am I tired of hearing that. To everyone else there is a glaring need for a left-handed bat.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 08:07 AM) I know that was probably a really crass analogy to make but all my other attempts to make the same point have failed. If Bobby can get three outs occasionally that's not really very high praise on its own, it makes him the same as about 95% of other major league pitchers. Yep. Like I said before, Randy Williams would occasionally get three outs. And Threets got 6!

Catch All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) Very strange thing happened this morning: A high school sophomore (Maybe Jr?) that volunteers for the church I work for work up this morning completely disoriented. He has all his long term memory, but has no memory of the last week and didnt know what day it was. Very very weird. A friend of my parents' woke up one morning and realized he couldn't remember his wife's or kids' names. After going to the hospital it was determined that he had a TIA (a mini stroke).

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 07:33 AM) "You guys keep saying he's a bad husband but really let's look at this objectively, he only beats his wife like once a week and the rest of the time he treats her like a queen! Every marriage has ups and downs." I laughed when I read this, then I said, "Wait, he's right!" Obviously losing a baseball game and beating a spouse are VERY different, but your point is true. He has one job, and as good as he's been sometimes, he's been just as bad...maybe even worse. I see defenses of Bobby out there saying if he gets the three outs it doesn't matter how he does it. I disagree. A closer has to be very good at their job, and having said closer come into a game should make the manager, team, and fans feel confident that he will get the job done. Bobby has lost the confidence of his manager and the fans for sure.

Sox Will Go Closer by Committee
Ah, the great closer debate. Bobby sucks, no he doesn't, he sucks... If you blow two save opportunities in a row, you're not doing very well. On some saves, he's looked very good for sure. But Randy Williams has looked good here and there. Bobby is not a good closer. I've said this before and I'll say it again. He was a better pitcher when he threw 98 mph fastballs and that wicked curve. His slider and sinker and other stuff that he's developed have never been as effective. He was bad his last two save opportunities, and he blew those saves. I don't need to see him again when the Sox have a 1, 2, or 3 game lead.

Remembering Past Deadlines
I liked the Contreras deal, too. At the time it didn't seem like much, but did it ever pay dividends.

Got a new car, but still no title
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 08:48 AM) Wow, that bug thing in your sig is crazy annoying. First time I saw it I almost broke my monitor trying to kill the bug.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 07:43 AM) I am totally clueless on this one. Is it Omar's game preparation? Does he whisper secrets in his ear? I mean, really....clearly Alexei is playing great D but can anyone point to anything that Omar does on a daily basis that has helped? Seems like this can be blown out of proportion but you can't argue with results... Although I'm sure Omar has been teaching and mentoring Alexei, sometimes players respond by just playing with better players. If you have a guy like Alexei who has a natural talent, his game can be bettered by simply playing with someone like Omar.

Got a new car, but still no title
This is probably a stupid question, but did you finance anything when you bought the new car? If so, the lein holder will have the title.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
Back when the Sox were struggling many of us were asking what the hell Omar was doing because we saw no improvement in Alexei's game. Now that Omar's been playing a lot (right alongside Alexei), his presence is evident. Not only does Alexei look like a Gold Glover, he makes some of those plays look easy. His range has improved dramatically, and his throws have been on a dime. Let's hope that whatever he's taken from Omar this year he keeps it up.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) On our way to 7 in a row . Only the logical next number after 11 then 9 next comes 7. That's fine, but then it'll be 5, then 3, then 1. How about if they go 11, 9, 7, 9, 11?

Have the White Sox ever had a better defense?
It's too bad there isn't such a position as a designated fielder. Jones is a perfect fit. One of the best outfielders...ever, but his bat has slumped. Seriously though, you're right about the defense. Alexei has impressed the hell out of me of late.

Staying Pat
I don't know. I agree that the market sucks, and KW may overpay for a bat. But I'm not convinced this team can get much past a division title without another bat.

Does Kenny dare to consider making this trade?
Kenny would consider a trade of Teahen to the Tigers, sure...but it won't matter, because I highly doubt the Tigers would want him. He's not even available to play right now.

Your "All-Time" Favorite Guitar Player
Ah, this is always a good debate. There are quite a few very good guitar players out there, and many of the same names come up: Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, BB King, etc. One of my favorites has always been Brian May. I'm a big fan of Queen, and I've listened to just about every album. Some of their best songs weren't their greatest hits. As far as May, the sounds he elicited from his guitar are unique. He may not be considered one of the best, but he's one of my favorites.

Disney World
I was just there with the family a couple weeks ago. I was extremely impressed by how the place runs. As far as where to stay, the Beach Club is fantastic (if a bit pricey). Their pool area is the best I've ever been to.

(Insert Celeb Here) is Dead
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2010 -> 08:09 PM) James Gammon, who played manager Lou Brown in the "Major League" movies, died today at age 70. Sad. "Forget about the curveball Ricky. Give him the HEATER!"

What band would you wish to reunite?
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 18, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) Queen. This was my first thought as soon as I saw this thread. I'm a huge fan of Queen. Could you imagine if Freddie Mercury was still alive and writing songs today? Their last studio album Innuendo was a glimpse of their music into the 90s.

Peavy Done for Year; Marquez Up
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 03:03 AM) Ptatc's evaluation doesn't sound good. As it turned out, Jake was a complete waste of money. He's a gamer and all, but it's money down the drain. And yes, I wish him the best in his recovery. It sucks he got hurt. I don't feel sorry for baseball teams that waste money like this, however. Giving pitchers multi year megabuck deals is just stupid in this day and age of coddling arms that in the best of times can't give a team more than 105 pitches a night. Nobody held a gun to the head of owners who brought this upon themselves. Easy now, champ. It's a long time until ST of 2011, when Peavy will supposedly be ready to come back. That might be a stretch, but let's wait and see what happens before we say he was a waste of money. What if this had happened to Jenks? Would you feel the same way? Sorry, greg, I had to.

Buehrle: 10 Years of Excellence
With every great player (and yes, I consider Mark a great player) there will be rough patches. MArk's rough patches have been few and short-lived. Above him being a very good pitcher, he's even a better guy and teammate...at least from what we know. I met him once before a game (along with a bunch of other people clammoring for autographs), and he was patient and made a point to say hi and sign everyone's hats, balls, tickets, etc. I'd like to see him pitch for the Sox until he's ready to retire. And I totally agree with the statue.
