I've seen plenty of players that are right-handed and bat either switch or left-handed, but there are not many who are left-handed and bat from the right. I wonder why. How many players started batting the way they do when they were little leaguers? If a player became a switch hitter, is that something they picked up early or later on in high school? So, let's start a discussion. Whether you play organized ball or just mess around in the backyard with the kids, do you throw right or left-handed and how do you bat? The only "organized" ball I've played is slow-pitch softball, and I always threw and batted right. But now when I play wiffle ball or a pick up game with my kids and their friends I'll bat left and right.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 08:38 AM) That'll be the day I can watch White Sox baseball without it bearing near-unbearable. STRETCH! STRETCH! [rumble] DAGGUMMITTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT! He was bearable to me until he lost the ability to judge any flyball and started compensating for it by yelling "stretch stretch!" and ending it with his trademark "DAGGUMMITTTTTTTTTTTTTT!" Which happens almost every inning. Except when it's the other team hitting fly balls. Soriano hit that homerun last week, and as soon as he hit it Hawk said, "Now that's a major league pop up." The ball then proceeded to land in the bullpen.
  3. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 07:24 AM) Great. Now I got that stupid song stuck in my head. Thanks. Believe me, so do I. But, it happened to me as soon as I saw the name. I figured I'd share.
  4. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Jul 2, 2010 -> 06:01 AM) Corey Hart And he's cool because he wears his sunglasses at night.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 1, 2010 -> 07:16 AM) He's hit two balls harder this year than Beckham has all season. I'm sure his at-bats are not indictitive of how he would hit all of the time, but I wonder if he should get a few starts over Beckham.
  6. No need to trade for a big bat now. Lillibridge is a beast. A triple and a homerun, 6 RBIs. There's your DH. I debated about putting that in green...
  7. I saw Williams warming up in the pen yesterday, and I was concerned. Rightfully so because he promptly gave up a hit to the guy he was brought in to face and get out. Who cares about lefty on lefty when the lefty pitcher you use is no good?

Sit back, relax, and strap it down.

    Get on back there!
  10. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:34 PM) I have no idea what PIT would ask for but it won't be insane like the Dunn price. Maybe Flowers would do the trick. I've thought about Jones as well, but I was thinking Pittsburgh would want to keep him around. He's getting paid next to nothing. I wonder what type of money he'd command.
  11. I'm starting to like the idea of LaRoche a lot more.
  12. Win tonight with another good outing by Peavy then roll into Texas with a head of steam. One game at a time, but a 4-2 (or better) road trip would be great.
  13. Uh...I don't know. Just looked him up. He hasn't had many opportunities this year, but a .277 OBP last year? Yikes.
  14. Is he a better option than Kotsay?
  15. Let me throw a question out there for discussion. Do you think one of the considerations about who the Sox go after is the possibility of signing said player after this year? The three names that keep coming up are Dunn, LaRoche, and Fielder. All three are in their final year of their contract (although LaRoche has a mutual option). Is there any chance the Sox try to sign any of them, and if so who's most likely to actually sign? Fielder would be the most expensive, and I don't see that happening. Dunn and LaRoche may be about equal considering they are the same age. Thinking that Sox would want to sign one of them, if they were to try to keep Konerko as well, how much do you think the Sox would be willing to spend between the two? No more than $20 million? $18 million?
  16. Viciedo looked good. He was hitting the ball hard. He needs to be playing more.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 03:11 PM) I could say a team of former Sox wouldn't be bad. I'll start with Maggs, Carlos Lee, Garland, Swisher (god I hated him on our team), Olivo, Pods, Thome, Aardsma, Gio, Young. I'm sure there are a ton more. Well, that's fine, but you've got Carlos Lee and Pods both listed, and Lee was traded for Pods. So, you can't null a trade and get them both back. I know what you're getting at, but like someone else said, the Sox have done well with most trades.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) We'll assume that Dunn signs a 3/$36 mill extension ($10 in '11, $12 in '12, $14 in '13). This is not an argument by any means, but do you think Dunn would sign for "only" $36 million? If so, I'd have no problem with your hypothesis.
  19. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Hell, I'd be willing to take 11-8 in the postseason this year, but I'm an easier sell. Yeah, 11 wins in the post season will be fine.
  20. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) TIFWIW, but a family member of Kenny's confirms that talks are taking place and at this point a deal is likely. Interesting. I wonder who is part of the potential deal?
  21. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) But not talked actively about them going to the White Sox. Really? Peavy was almost traded earlier in the year, and there were those who believed (correctly) that the deal would eventually happen. And once Rios was placed on waivers, it was highly suspected that the Sox had claimed him.
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Chase Blackwood for Prince Fielder, would you do it? Well, we could also throw in Jones. Then I think it's a done deal.
  23. Buehrle didn't have his best stuff last night for sure, but the offense certainly could have tried a bit harder. Last night the offensive problem we knew was there was glaring. A big bat is needed along with a big strong lefty to swing it.
  24. And if the Sox were to actually sign Dunn after this year, you can say goodbye to several players we already figured on being gone for sure. The only way Konerko would remain was if he signed to a big discount. But having Dunn and Konerko available for 1B and DH would be nice.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 08:17 AM) Which is why his price for any team trading for him will be high...the team acquiring him needs to give up something worth substantially more than 2 draft picks. If I were the Nats, I wouldn't trade him straight up for Hudson. It'd have to be Hudson + Flowers + some A-baller that I like. That's a lot to give up. How would the picks work...what rounds, etc.?
