I don't know. I'm as excited as the next guy about the run as of late, but we are playing some bad NL teams. I hope that the winning ways will be contagious and carry on into the following weeks. However, I do not see an acqusition of a big bat anytime soon, and when Teahen comes back, he'll be patrolling the left side of the infield.

Any thread I have is going to bounce around from topic to topic ..I don't feel like clogging Soxtalk up with a bunch of different random subjects ..so I just ask my random Q's wherever I want!! LOL I can respect that. Okay...Classic Rock, I've always been a fan of Queen I don't listen to a lot of new music, but I'm a big fan of Rusted Root.

QUOTE (maggliopipe @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) The wife and I went to last night's game and are going tonight as well. PNC Park is everything it's made out to be; just a gorgeous ballpark. I've got a lot of sympathy for the poor Buccos fans though. They seem knowledgable and passionate for having stomached 18 straight seasons. Having grown up in Pittsburgh I can tell you that it's a very passionate sports town. The fans there have a lot to be excited about with the Steelers and Penguins, and a lot to be really pissed off about with the Pirates. It amazes me that they get as many fans as they do to their games. You'd think that the luster of the early 90's would have worn off by now...and maybe it has. The ownership of that team hasn't done much good. -

QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 03:47 AM) CQ is on pace for 33 doubles, 22 HRs, and 96 RBI all while hitting .207 If Juan Pierre was hitting over .300, I think he would have 40 or so steals right now.. but from what I am looking at, since May 1st Pierre is hitting about .275 with an OBP over .350 which isn't too bad Pierre seems to be trending back towards his career averages. He should still swipe 50+ bags this year, and if he can keep up his perfomance since May 1st, the idea of acquiring him will look better.

They had FOUR errors in one inning!

...even if it's against the Pirates. Danks! Konerko! Pirate errors!!

With InBev's acquisition of Anheiser-Busch, Sam Adams (Boston Beer Company) became the largest American-owned brewer.

That's hiliarious. You could really screw with someone. "Just press the damn octothorpe! It's right there, four keys away from the ampersand!"

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:27 AM) I don't think it's wrong to defend a WS hero when somebody is mocking him for what? Having a bad back. It's not his fault he has a bad back. What's wrong with sticking up for a hero? The World Series is uh, a big deal. The World Series was a huge deal. Especially considering we may not see that again for a while. I think the general response here is "lighten up".

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:43 AM) AJP Career : .284/.324/.425, OPS+ 94 Kotsay Career: .279/.336/.412, OPS+ 98 Well shut my mouth. Very similar. I even checked ABs and noted that Kotsay has had about 1200 more at bats than AJ. So, they are both hitting quite poorly this year in regards to their career numbers.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 10:11 AM) What if they do get their act together? Payrolls in baseball are going to drop like a rock as attendance is plummeting. When you have 81 games to sell you can not charge the prices they are trying to charge.....see the cubs. None of the games this past weekend was a complete sell out. Yes they were only single seats. If those two guys in particular got their acts together, that couple with the fact that the pitching has improved could make for an interesting season. You're absolutely right about the payrolls. It's sad and a bit scary that the storied Cubs-Sox rivalry can't sell out every game...over a weekend.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:24 AM) AJ Pierzynski is not good enough offensively to have him also spend a considerable amount of time at 1B and DH. He's essentially the same hitter as Mark Kotsay, but he is tolerated at catcher because he calls a good game and it's much harder to find offense at catcher. Beyond that, catchers generally age faster than other players due to the wear and tear on their body from the rigors of catching, and it's entirely possible that's what has gone on this season, so it is very possible that the Sox could be worse offensively with a trio of Pierzynski-Flowers-Castro/Lucy. Maybe this year AJ is Kotsay-like, but I think he's a better hitter than Mark Kotsay in general. But, I agree that he's valued more overall because of his ability to call and catch a good game.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Donny Lucy being the catcher of the future would be disasterous. Career minor league OPS of .667. Hits lefties just a little better than righties (.684 vs .658). He's a decent backup in the absolute best case scenario. Alright. That's the kind of info I was looking for, thanks. Now I better understand the importance of what happens with AJ and Flowers.
-
In all seriousness, what's the feeling about Lucy? Say the Sox sign AJ to an extension and trade Flowers. Is Donny Lucy the catcher of the future for the Sox? I don't know much about him except what I saw when he was up briefly.
