May Catch All White Sox Thread
It'd be nice if something exciting were to happen today. Like you know, a win.

This 7 game homestand has to go at least 5-2 to make me feel much better.

QUOTE (jeffro2525 @ May 2, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) We need to see how this 7 game homestand goes before calling this season lost. We act as if we're 5-20...We're not completely buried...yet. The depressing thing is, we should be 5-20.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Not really in our system. Unless you want to see Danks 2 strike out once every 3 at bats, there's nothing that can be done. Right now, it's just the perfect storm of everything that can go wrong is. Thanks for making me even sadder.

Well, the idea of acquiring Fielder or Gonzalez is fading for sure. If anything, we'll be trading away "talent".

QUOTE (fathom @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Which youngsters? You want to see Lillibridge back up here? *vomits explosively* No, but I would assume there are a few we'd like to see. I know, honestly, that bringing guys up now is not the right thing, especially if doing so hurts their development. But, at least there would be more worth watching.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) KC is going to kick our ass. And if that happens...at home...will heads roll? No, I don't think so.

How much longer until the Kotsay, Vizquel, and Pierre experiments are considered busts? Let's see some young 'uns from the minors.

My son turned off the game and turned on bowling. I didn't complain.

25 games in, and the 10-15 record doesn't really tell the story. If it weren't for Danks, Konerko, and Jones the record would be considerably worse.

QUOTE (Baines3 @ May 2, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) This game is sickening. I wonder how long Ozzie is going to keep his job the way things are going. You'd think it can't be much longer, but I'd be willing to bet he's here to stay this eason.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 01:15 PM) See the Toronto game earlier in the season to find out. To use a very popular phrase here, small sample size. Obviously he struggled last time on regular rest. I suppose I should said that we should hope he can perform better this time on regular rest.

Dye Coming Back? Sun-Times Article
Not wanting to read anything into it, it does sound a bit like there have been discussions. I'm on the fence about the whole idea, but like the article said, it couldn't get any worse.

Time to change the top of the order
I was listening to the post-game show with Rongey yesterday, and a caller suggested Rios to lead-off and said many of the same things we discuss here. I was wondering if it was a SoxTalk poster.

And that's a White Sox winner!!!
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) Or Gartrell, or De Aza. One of those three. I don't think I know anything about Gartrell. How did he perform in ST?

What if Quentin goes to the DL, which is not out of the question considering his history. Who would the Sox bring up? Danks2?

Juan Pierre loses leadoff role
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) Outside of two months last year, Pierre has been the decline for the last few years. A year like this wasn't out of the question. Especially, in the A.L. Sure, but what we're seeing right now is not a decline, it's falling off a damn cliff. I'm still inclined to believe that he will recover...maybe not to a .280+ hitter, but he'll most likely be much better than he is right now.

And that's a White Sox winner!!!
Nice to see the bats wake up. And how about Konerko? Can he keep it up? Let's hope so. As far as Jenks, I always think about what Steve Stone says every time a closer comes in with a high ERA: That number doesn't matter for closers, what matters is saves/opportunities. I suppose I agree to a point, but a high ERA is going to lead to more blown saves. I've said this before and I'll say it again: Jenks was a better pitcher when he threw 97 mph fastballs and devastating curves. He's lost velocity in favor of more pitches, and it hasn't worked well for him. I for one cringe every time he comes in for a save when the Sox are only up by 1 or 2. Finally, thank you Ozzie for finally realizing that Juan Pierre needs to be moved from the lead-off spot.
