  1. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) A DH with 25 homers, a .214 avg. and a .323 OBP is a bad DH. Yeah, that's just plain bad. Getting on base is extremely important, especially when you're talking about using a DH low in the lineup. A Jones/Kotsay cocktail is not the same as having a Thome or Blalock. If our DH is going to be batting 8th or 9th, the ability for said DH to get on base and move others on base is paramount.
  2. The deafening silence since Saturday leads me to think that the Sox are standing pat. I'm frustrated, especially after KW apparently went aggresively after Damon. I thought maybe the hole at DH was recognized. Anyway, moving on, I am anxious to see how Jones does. If he returns to form, he could be a good pick-up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I have a feeling KW will have to be wheeling and dealing towards the trade deadline.
  3. Is it just me or did that pic of Freddy look like he's slimmed down a bit...at least in the face?
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) They should call Dye and/or Blalock. They will likely stand pat though, and be forced to give up whatever is left on the farm for a legitimate bat come July. Which would be a shame when there are legitimate bats available right now.
  5. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:37 PM) You don't think Dye is half as good as Damon? Dye has much better power than Damon, and power is what he lack and need out of our DH. Damon's speed would have been nice, but I think $4M is fair for Dye. I see your point, and I wouldn't start throwing things if it happened. Maybe it's the attitude that JD has been displaying for a while that makes me lower the dollar value. But half of the Damon offer would be $3 million.
  6. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Isnt it Blalock? Yeah, but I don't care how the hell anyone spells it as long as it's on the back of a Sox jersey.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) Jermaine Dye , $4M. I have no problem with this except for the $. If he agrees to be the primary DH, sign him for $2 or $3 million.
  8. Although part of me believes they will stand pat, I think KW has recognized the need for a true DH. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes a move towards Blalock.
  9. QUOTE (Real @ Feb 20, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4929220 Rumors on ESPN DET board are it's a 1yr/6m deal. Haha Isn't this the same deal the Sox offered? And even though the offer was "pulled", I would assume he'd still be welcome if he wanted to sign?
  10. If the Sox do sign Damon, is there a chance the deal includes an option for 2011, or will he be strictly viewed as a stop-gap?
  11. No matter where he signs, he's probably right now kicking himself (or his agent) right in the ass for not taking the 2/$14 million the Yankees offered.
  12. QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 02:42 PM) Joliet Central? Yeah...actually it's Central and West until 2012 (I think) when West will be the Tigers again.
  13. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) why didn't we start a pool on when/where he'll sign. It was spoken of and then it never happened. I'm a little disappointed. He'll sign with the Sox on February 20, 2015. Kenny will finally get his man.
  14. Wow. I was away from my computer for an hour and I miss a fight, screaming, yelling, punching... No news, though? It doesn't help that it's Friday and I can't concentrate on work as it is.
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 19, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) As I recall Damon was really good friends with some of the Patriot players from his days in Boston. Maybe he told some of them and this scout talked to them. OK, it's reaching but it's a really boring Friday here. You never know. If the same thing had been "leaked" but with the Tigers mentioned there might be more of us speaking up. I think right now it's quiet optimism...or praying.
  16. When I have the stomach flu, which is not often, about the only thing I can eat is saltines. There's something about the buttery, saltiness that makes me feel better.
  17. You factor in KW's cryptic comment and this mystery scout saying the deal is all but done and you almost have to think it's possible. KW is famous for his no comment attitude, and his saying he'll discuss it on Sunday probably means we will already know one way or the other by then. Then there's the scout...it's almost laughably believable. If nothing else it'll make for an interesting Friday.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) If we don't get Damon, I'd prefer to take a gamble and sign Leslie Anderson and give him some playing time in the OF, i'd think he'd be a touch higher on the risk/reward ratio then some of the other guys on the market.. I'm not up on the Cuban players, but is he eligible to play yet? If so, what kind of $ amount would be be looking for?
  19. When I have a cold, toast with sugar and cinnamon.
  20. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) Indeed I did. This DH bullcrap has got me pretty riled up the past month. I hear you. Sometimes I verbally assault myself, then apologize to myself and blame it on KW and Ozzie.
  21. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) That wife of his probably had a big role in the decision to be apart of New York life too. She is the only thing keeping me in the thought that Damon may end up here over Detroit. Did you just argue with yourself?
  22. My big question is if Damon doesn't sign with the Sox does KW keep looking for another bat? It's encouraging to see him going after Damon, but why is this happening after all the talk of the rotating DH and their committment to it? There are still a few bats left out there that will probably start going cheaper (Branyan, Blalock, Dye). I don't know what any of them would command so I won't speculate. I do wonder though if KW is taking matters into his own hands with the DH situation.
  23. If nothing else, the quote by KW will give this thread the opportunity to reach 2000 posts. Kidding aside, I don't necessarily think that KW is saying the Tigers are going to sign him. However, it does put a damper on the mood a bit. Someone said earlier that this could be his way of saying "No comment", and I'm inclined to agree. News may pop up this afternoon that Damon has signed (although I doubt it), and KW may not speak formally until Sunday.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) Nah, lots of the game threads get up to 1000 posts. Oh, I know that. What I meant was that the thread starter had the 1st and 1000th post.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) I'll go so far as to say that if we don't sign him, somebody else will. He WILL be wearing a uniform of some team that plays somewhere...I'm sure of it.
