Trib cracks open a new can of worms
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:47 AM) If the Sox are making a playoff run, they aren't trading Danks or Floyd. I could see Danks in a deal if the Sox were out of it, but then they would have to have an extention in hand for Fielder. I agree. Danks and Floyd were steals, and there's no way either one is going anywhere if the Sox are in it. A move like that wouldn't make any sense. And if they're out of it, why would they even consider going after Fielder? He'd only be a rental for 2011.

Trib cracks open a new can of worms
Oh, it would be tempting. I'm not sure about the Rios idea, though. I wouldn't think that even freeing up his salary would be enough to sign Fielder to a long term contract. He will command (and get) at least $20 million a season. But, what if the Sox do not re-sign Konerko and AJ? Would that even be enough? I honestly don't see the Sox ever signing someone for that much money.

Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
I'm generally a nice guy, and I always tend to give the likes of Kotsay, Pierre, etc. the benefit of the doubt. But, I am thoroughly disgusted by the performance of Pierre so far. Right now he's nothing more than a rally killer. Not that a lead-off single is a rally, but I watched him eliminate Teahen's lead-off yesterday by slapping a harmless grounder to the pitcher...a hit that a Pinto level little leaguer could field easily. I'd like to think he'll get better and start getting on base and stop being useless, but I'm getting more and more convinced that won't happen.

Where you met your significant other?
I was in the Coast Guard stationed in Baltimore, and she was working for the DOT (in the Chicago office) as an auditor. I was attending a class she was auditing. I asked her to dinner and to "show her around Baltimore" the second day of class. We were engaged 3 months later and married less than a year after that. It was a long distance relationship until I got transferred to Chicago a month before the wedding.

Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 10:37 PM) Timo would be worth about 5 wins minimum. Just sitting on the bench next to cora would net at least one win, but if you let him actually hit and play the field regularly? shoot, this team may be undefeated Plus you could hear Hawk yelling "Come on, Timo! Come on, Timo!" again.

Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) I second the Olivio vote. I think there's real concern right now for AJ. It seems that he's in more than just a slump. I wouldn't mind seeing Olivo, either.

Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 03:35 PM) Pods and his .385 BA, .453 OBP and 8/9 in SB's, on a 1 yr deal for 1.75M instead of 4M per for Pierre....which would have allowed us more $ to have gotten Damon or Matsui I like the thought, but something tells me that even if the Sox had signed Pods they wouldn't have gone after Damon any harder. Plus, there's no guarantee that Pods would have performed the same with the Sox (however, you'd think it still would be better than Pierre).

Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
My immediate vote went to Thome as we need a better option at DH. That being said, someone else would be gone, most likely an outfielder as you would stick Jones out there. So, would Pierre go away? I don't know. Maybe I need to re-think my vote...

Thornton for a bag of baseballs?
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 07:26 AM) Temporary? Thornton has been a machine for 3+ years now. Barring injury, I dont really see anything changing I don't either, and I suppose we got more than we ever expected from the guy especially considering what we gave up.

Thornton for a bag of baseballs?
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) You're not getting it. Things didn't click with Matt in SEA. Nice guy, great attitude, easy repeatable, stress free delivery and 60+ arm, no control. One session with Cooper, he's nails. Sometimes the change of scenery works wonders. All of the players I listed....VERY FEW posters were super upset they were leaving (Swisher, maybe...from a talent lost perspective, but he simply had to go)....all those guys had success after leaving for various reasons. Point is, KW is not always right. But 75% isn't bad. I got what you're saying, and I agree. Many of those on your list did have success elsewhere, and consequently some of us wished and wanted them back. It's the change of scenery sometimes, and it's also only temporary sometimes. Let's just hope it's not temporary with Thornton.

perfect article to generate debate about Ozzie Ball
There's no doubt a good debate was created about "Ozzie Ball". And I agree with the banishment of that silly phrase. I'm not convinced that it's working (it ceratinly isn't yet), and it may never work in 2010. 2005 (I know, I know, stop talking about it) was an anomily. Everything came together perfectly. But it was more than just speed and grinders. It was pitching, good defense, and (wait for it) clutch hitting. This team so far has lacked sorely in the clutch hitting department. Okay, sure, there was some clutch hitting three games in a row against Seattle. That's awesome, great, super...but they wouldn't have needed those clutch hits in the 8th and 9th if some of the "grinders" and speedy guys had gotten on base and some of the hitters and power guys had knocked them in earlier in the game. If things continue with Pierre not getting on base very often and Beckham struggling (I doubt that, however), Andruw Jones may still hit 30+ HRs but have only 60 RBIs. Konerko may have a (late) career year, but his RBI total will be low, too. Essentially if things don't turn around and the 8, 9, 1, and 2 hitters don't get on base for the likes of Jones, Konerko, and Quentin (hopefully), it's not going to matter how many HRs or doubles they hit.

Thornton for a bag of baseballs?
That's a good read. Us as Sox fans felt pretty good about getting rid of Borchard, but it sounded like the Ms absolutely abhored Thornton. I would say KW made a hell of a move there.

White Sox - Cubs Trophy.
QUOTE (The Critic @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:40 AM) I hope the trophy depicts a shrugging baseball fan with a bag over his head. This is a silly but harmless idea, unless drunken idiots take it too seriously. Well this will happen for certain...especially when the Cubs are on the losing side.

How good would we feel about a 3-3 roadtrip? I think that's got to be the minimum.

White Sox - Cubs Trophy.
Pure silliness. I wouldn't call it stupid, but it's not necessary by any means. The rivalry has enough fuel IMO, so a trophy would just increase bragging rights and name-calling and whatnot.

GT: CWS @ TEX, Tues 4/27, 7:05pm CT
After the past 3 games I like the Sox's chances, but I almost wish they didn't have a day off. I hope they don't lose the momentum.

The Finer Things In Life
I picked up a 6-pack of the latest Sam Adams Long Shot beers. All three are good, but the Mile High Barley Wine stands out. Very smooth and sweet with a slight alcohol warming. The 9.8% ABV is not really evident, and that makes it a dangerous brew.

The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 25, 2010 -> 10:24 PM) I'm going to put the commonly held belief that "everything is better with bacon" to he test. I'm cooking up some nice fatty smoked bacon to infuse into Kentucky bourbon. We'll see in about two days how it turns out, and what sort of tasty drinks can be made with bacon-infused bourbon. It'd be a good bourbon to drink with breakfast?

White Sox - Cubs Trophy.
QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 07:43 AM) a vast majority of cubs fans will love it when they get it and be pissed when we have it. Most sox fans just wont care. Hell, most cubs fans will care more about the cubs getting the trophy than finishing the season with a better record than the sox This is true. The next time the Sox win the World Series (which will be before the Cubs do), they will say, "yeah, but we won that trophy!"

This thread is not even two pages yet and the word "stupid" was used more times than in 50 page threads.

Andruw Jones is on a mission
QUOTE (mr_genius @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) looks like a nicotine patch or something My first thought was that it was a motion sickness patch. Of course, why would he wear one while walking around? Maybe he knew he'd be making many rounds of the base pads?

4/22 GT: Rays vs. White Sox. 7:10 PM Central Time, CSN+2, WSCR 670
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) It's interesting viewing the reaction to this lineup on all the White Sox forum. There's literally only one person I've seen who's defended it. At least Kotsay isn't batting 3rd or 5th.
