  1. QUOTE (hawksfan61 @ Apr 3, 2010 -> 11:45 AM) Don't you hate pants? I wouldn't say "hate". More of a mutual dislike.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 02:01 PM) By merely posting in here, even if it's to bash the thread, you are helping ensure a World Series victory. Hear hear!
  3. This sounds like one of those Facebook groups like "I bet this doughnut can get more fans than the Chicago Cubs".
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) No offense, but can we let 2005 go? At least when it comes to predicting future success for this team? 2005 was 5 years ago. That year didn't kick-start some kinda dynasty. No offense taken, but I wasn't comparing this team to the 2005 Sox. I was just making a point about predictions not meaning a lot.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2010 -> 07:04 AM) Its amazing how much more solid a baseball writer becomes when they count the White Sox as one of the best. I've read for years on this board that Rosenthal was an idiot. I like Rosenthal's columns, but am concerned about his prediction. It appears his pre-season picks haven't been on the money. And he may still be an idiot for picking the Sox to win the World Series. It's definitely not a safe prediction. 162 games makes for a long-ass season, and anything can happen. I'm hopeful and moderately optimistic that the Sox can take the division, but beyond that I'm a little more nervous. If the Sox start the season strong, there will be plenty of conjecture and talk of a division win. But, if after 20 games they're 8-12, there will be much discussion of 2011. My point is that it's pretty damn early to start picking WS winners. I realize that is the job of sports writers, and Rosenthal's pick of the Sox is cool...just not a safe one...which makes it all that much cooler.
  6. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 07:23 PM) They are a family of lawyers who position themselves to offend the highest amount of people. In political science there is something called the median voter theory. The idea is that the politician who positions themselves closest to the median voter's policy preferences will win. These folks are doing the opposite. They triangulate political views to find the most offensive. Liberals don't like them, conservatives don't like them, Christians don't like them, etc. In this case I imagine they were represented by someone in the organization and I imagine they will be keeping the legal fees. I am under the impression that they hope that people assault them or infringe on their first amendment rights so that they can sue. That's a good point. You have to wonder, though, what goes through the minds of people like this. I'm no fan of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, but supporting the troops is a different matter, in my mind. The sign "Thank God for IEDs" was particularly disturbing.
  7. No one wants to wish the weekend away, but Monday can't come soon enough. I haven't been as fired up about the start of baseball season in a long time.
  8. I'm sure the statement has been made many times, in one form or another, but how many people figured the 2005 Sox would win the World Series? And looking bad at that year, many of us (myself included) would have never thought so in August during the death spiral. Everything came together in the playoffs, though. Imagine the pitching staff pitching like they are capable and the majority of the team staying healthy...gets you kind of excited doesn't it?

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) I'll have to take your word for it. Just seems like the guy doesn't do squat all year and then he has one really busy day and it's a big deal. If you think about it, that wouldn't be a bad bit. Just hang out at the beach drinking beer for 364 days a year and work one day. Of course that one day sucks...
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 09:06 AM) If you cut me, liquid sarcasm would ooze out. Would it be green?
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 1, 2010 -> 08:49 AM) Why would you say that? I assume you're being sarcastic?
  12. http://news.yahoo.com/s/csm/20100331/ts_csm/291560 The leader of this church and its followers must have something wrong with them. They obviously lack morals.
  13. I agree about MN having some trouble adapting to their new home. I'm optimistic that the Sox stay healthy and win the division, but narrowly. Sox Twins -3.5 Indians -6 Tigers -9.5 Royals -11
  14. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 30, 2010 -> 12:02 PM) Awesome, the road to the World Series starts now!
  15. QUOTE (elgonzo4sox @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 05:57 PM) Not bad! But the Pirates are also a farm team for the Cubs. And don't forget that we have a divisional farm team, too - the Royals. This year we sent Pods, Getz, Fields and BA back down to AAAA, and brought up Teahen. And it may turn out to be a good deal for us...hopefully.
  16. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Mar 29, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) -At least 10 times Hawkeroo will squeal "STRETCH! STRETCH!" on-air only to watch the left fielder haul in the ball at least 10 yards before the warning track For sure. Imagine what he'll say about the Twins' new field when that happens. "Dagum wind".
  17. It's always nice to hear about organizations doing things like that for fans. Plus, it was a great gesture by your friend to write that letter. I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I couldn't imagine what you and your family are going through.
  18. The Twins have a horrible April, and the team holds an emergency press conference stating that they were not aware of "wind" and "cold" in Minnesota. The Pirates fold after going 1-22 in their first 23 ganes. Bud Selig allows them to become a farm team for the Yankees and Red Sox. All areas of the country outside of the Northeast get sick and tired of seeing the Yankees and Red Sox on ESPN 100 times a year and demand that something be changed. ESPN responds my re-naming Baseball Tonight "No Other Teams Matter Except for the Yankees and Red Sox."
  19. QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 06:23 AM) Don't use reason around these parts, son. My bad.
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) You’re operating under the assumption that his spring training numbers are going to transfer directly into the regular season. This is almost certainly not going to be the case, and if it is it likely won’t last. His career numbers are trending downward, his split stats tend to agree with the theory that this is a terrible idea. If this doesn’t work, we can move him, that’s all well and good. But the implications of this not working are us losing a couple of games that we shouldn’t have lost. That doesn’t sit well with me. Well, I am saying that his numbers MAY transfer directly. I did note that more than likely he will end up being a solid bench bat. What I am saying is, if he's hot, use him until he's not. Let's just hope that Ozzie realizes when he's not hot anymore.
  21. QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 26, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) Somebody else here wrote something along these lines that I think is the most important thought in this entire thread. Unfortunately, I'm too lazy to go find it, but: Why is anyone freaking about this? Two things about this are true...just think about it: 1) If Kotsay is batting third, and he fails there, they aren't going to keep him there and he will have a pretty short leash. and 2) If Kotsay is batting third, and he stays there, that means he's hitting really well. In which case, why would anyone complain about a number 3 hitter that's tearing the cover off the ball? But really, the most likely truth is: 3) Kotsay really isn't going to bat third and Ozzie doesn't mean what he's saying. And even if Kotsay does bat third, it will hardly ever happen. At any rate, none of those three are worth getting worked up over. Thank you. I was surprised as I read this thread at the hate and venom and threats and vomiting. You're absolutely right. One of these three statements is correct. And if Kotsay is hitting the ball well and continues doing so, let him play. I agree that he's a great bench bat, and more than likely that is what he will end up being primarily. But why not use him if he's hot. Who cares how it happens if the Sox win some damn games.
  22. I'm going to be moderately optimistic and say 86-88. The biggest factor is health. Barring injuries to the key players, I say the Sox win the division by 2 or 3 games.
  23. I suppose I'm one of the many who are on the fence regarding the healthcare reform. The main reason I am on the fence is that, like a lot of people, I am uninformed. The problem right now is that much of what you see on social networking sites and blogs has become misinformation. I have a good health insurance plan with my employer, one that includes $3 prescriptions and a one-time coverage of $500 for Lasik. And I suppose that may be the biggest reason why I'm on the fence about the bill. What makes me shake my head are the conservatives who are spreading the misinformation and spouting off quips like "I'm moving to New Zealand!" I want to tell them that New Zealand has government run healthcare, but the argument is not worth it. I'm not saying that all those opposed are uninformed, but I have a sneaking suspicion that if a republican president had introduced a healthcare reform bill, the same ones that are screaming and crying would be lauding it as the best thing ever.
  24. I never paid much attention to Mariotti but often heard quotes from his writing. Then I saw him on Around the Horn and decided that if I ever saw him in person I would most likely kick him in the nuts...only because of the incredibly stupid look on his face. I figure that if he goes down with a nut shot he wouldn't be able to say much, except for some squeaking and gasping.
