  1. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:20 PM) Indeed I did. This DH bullcrap has got me pretty riled up the past month. I hear you. Sometimes I verbally assault myself, then apologize to myself and blame it on KW and Ozzie.
  2. QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) That wife of his probably had a big role in the decision to be apart of New York life too. She is the only thing keeping me in the thought that Damon may end up here over Detroit. Did you just argue with yourself?
  3. My big question is if Damon doesn't sign with the Sox does KW keep looking for another bat? It's encouraging to see him going after Damon, but why is this happening after all the talk of the rotating DH and their committment to it? There are still a few bats left out there that will probably start going cheaper (Branyan, Blalock, Dye). I don't know what any of them would command so I won't speculate. I do wonder though if KW is taking matters into his own hands with the DH situation.
  4. If nothing else, the quote by KW will give this thread the opportunity to reach 2000 posts. Kidding aside, I don't necessarily think that KW is saying the Tigers are going to sign him. However, it does put a damper on the mood a bit. Someone said earlier that this could be his way of saying "No comment", and I'm inclined to agree. News may pop up this afternoon that Damon has signed (although I doubt it), and KW may not speak formally until Sunday.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) Nah, lots of the game threads get up to 1000 posts. Oh, I know that. What I meant was that the thread starter had the 1st and 1000th post.
  6. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) I'll go so far as to say that if we don't sign him, somebody else will. He WILL be wearing a uniform of some team that plays somewhere...I'm sure of it.
  7. QUOTE (Sockin @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 10:06 AM) Kenny says he'll be talking about Damon....on Sunday. http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/3472 This is more of a buzzkill than Buzz Killington.
  8. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Why are we going after Damon? Where would he fit? His defense sucks...Pierre is basically playing the position he'd play....I like Pierre, Rios, Quentin and Jones all better than Damon. What's the end game if we get Damon? We need a DH...badly.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:32 AM) Eh... I doubt it. There are people on here with 26,000 posts. Go Steelmen. Tigers again in two years...I think
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:23 AM) Wow... the first thread that I ever started that reached 1000 posts. SWEET!!! That might be a Soxtalk first? Having the 1st post and the 1000th post?
  11. I never played little league, but I have a softball moment. I was playing for the Coast Guard team in a tournament in Juneau, AK. I was the extra hitter in the first game and went 3 for 3 with a single, double, and an inside the park HR. The HR was worth 3 runs, and we ended up winning by 2. I was the MVP. The coach left me as the EH in the second game. I went 2 for 3 with a single and a triple. I ended up scoring the winning run. That was all good, but my favorite moment was last fall when my son (who was almost 7) pitched for the first time. He struck out the side and only walked one. I know, it's only Pinto, but man was I proud.
  12. Tomorrow is Friday...and pay day. I think a trip to Binny's is called for.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:05 AM) I'll say again, I don't believe for 1 second that Damon would turn down a couple million extra dollars because he doesn't want to play in Detroit, if they were truly offering more. I agree, but if the gap is $2 million or more, I'd think he would have signed already. Maybe it's closer than we think?
  14. You would have thought he'd sign before this thread reached 1000 posts. Doesn't look like it now.
  15. I really wonder what the money difference is. If it's close and what we hear about Damon's desire to NOT play in Detroit is true, I guess the deal would have been done already. So, the difference might be somewhat significant.
  16. Part of me feels bad for JD. I'm sure he's quite frustrated right now and probably truly believes he can contribute as an outfielder somewhere. The fact is, however, the second half of last year pretty much showed the Sox and most other teams that's not the case. I say only part of me feels bad because he could have recognized his declining ability to field and accepted the fact that he could be a valuable DH somewhere. I wouldn't discount the idea of the Sox wanting to sign him as the DH. Unless he changes his tune quickly, he'll either be out of work for 2010 or be riding the bench as a 4th OFer.
  17. We should start a pool. When does Johnny sign (if he signs) and for how much. The winner gets a free post.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) If anything, Damon takes away playing time from Mark Kotsay and Juan Pierre. It affects those guys more than Jones. That is unless Jones breaks out and produces like he did back in 2005. I'm not sure I agree with the notion of Pierre losing playing time. If Damon is signed he's going to be the DH, more than likely. The only way Pierre loses playing time is if he really tanks. Then you'll see more playing time for Jones and maybe Kotsay.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Rios Nix Damon Konerko Jones AJ Pierre Vizquez Teahan *vomits*
  20. Damon jerseys would definitely be good sellers. I think the only think that might temper the sales would be the likelihood that he'd only be here for one year.
  21. Pierre Beckham Damon Konerko Quentin AJ Rios Ramirez Teahan
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 11:52 AM) The latest via Cowley. Thanks for the info. Sounds like about what we've been thinking. Let's keep our fingers crossed.
  23. Yesterday I might have voted 20%, but today I voted 40%. I feel a bit better about our chances after hearing a few of the things I've heard today.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 09:21 AM) This is the guy who signs the checks. To me this is ideal because it cuts out the middle man, and most likely puts an endgame in sight for this mess. If nothing else it shows that the Sox are serious. The question is, what got JR involved? Did he recognize that the team needs this or did KW ask for him to be involved?
  25. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 08:35 AM) Sox will sign up Damon at 1 year, 6.25 million today is my best guess. I hope you're right. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I'm thinking it might happen.
