Freddy Garcia vs. Daniel Hudson vs. other options
hogan873 replied to Marky Mark's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I didn't have to think about this one, either. Give Freddy the chance first. Based on what we saw last year, I would think he will an adequate 5th starter...at least. He could be quite good, and that would be a huge bonus. -
If nothing else, we are a passionate bunch here at Soxtalk. It's not quite Christmas time and we are very excited (in good ways and bad) about the up and coming 2010 season. I'm not saying we should all relax because KW will get a big bat for the middle of the order. I'm hoping this happens, and I really don't believe much of what KW and Ozzie are spouting right now. We all know that KW leaks misleading information by actually saying nothing. We (and the media) take the comments he makes and try to decifer what the hell he is saying. For example, one could cull this board (and actually only look at the posts over past few days) and determine that the Sox will sign Delgado, Thome, Glaus, and a few other DH candidates. Regardless of what happens (and I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed for something good), our team's general manager gives up many a reason to talk. We can thank KW and Ozzie for keeping it interesting over these dark and dreary winter months. As the snow flies and the wind blows for the next few months, we can be kept warm by gathering around the fire that is Soxtalk.

So Who's the Next Long Rumored White Sox to come aboard?
hogan873 replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Ken Griffey, Jr. Oh wait. -
QUOTE (The Critic @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) and then we'll most likely see that top prospect non-tendered after a few years of nondescript production. Where is Joe Borchard anyway?

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Prior to last season it had been 5 years since he had last come within 15 points of his career OBP, his career numbers are moot at this point. He's not even close to the same hitter he was in the middle part of the decade when he was putting up OBPs north of .360, making up for the terrible OBP and slugging numbers he's been putting up in the 2nd half of the decade. There are plent of early to mid 30 year old hitters with good to terrific career numbers that you would want no where near your team. Fine, point taken. But Pods for the same money?
-
So, I just looked up Pierre's career stats. After looking at them and pondering, scratching my head, and drinking some root beer, I can't really see why we would want Pods over him...especially for the money. A career .301 hitter (yeah, yeah, I know NL vs. AL), 450+ stolen bases, and decent fielding stats. I'll take him over Pods for sure.

I guess I'm surprised at the lack of enthusiasm over this move. To me it's not a blockbuster by any means, but I think it makes the OF better. With the acquisition (hopefully) of a DH, things will really be looking up.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 14, 2009 -> 02:13 PM) Give me Rios in CF and a ? at DH over Matsui at DH and Wise in CF any day of the week. Absolutely.

Queentin? Teahan and Crumpets? Andrea Jones?

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) I am not going to tell people to stop speculating and such, because thats what this board is for, but I see about as much sense in discussing this rumor right now as I do in discussing trying to acquire Pujols. Let's hope no one takes this the wrong way and starts a new thread about the Sox trying to acquire Pujols.
-
I'm sure it means nothing more than we already know, but Yahoo sports via the Tribune is saying the Sox are after Matsui while Coco Crisp wants to play for the Sox. I'd like to have Matsui as a DH but that still leaves a hole in the OF. And who knows how Crisp will be after missing so much time and having surgery.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 8, 2009 -> 01:50 PM) Good post. That's what I was saying. There's nothing wrong with throwing out ideas in the middle of winter. None of us really know what Kenny is thinking about doing... he'll proabably pull off some deal that none of us have even thought of and will have all of us going WTF WAS THAT??? One thing is consistent about KW, he's consistently unpredictable. I agree that some deal will be made that will generate 500+ posts, and many of the posts will at least contain words to the effect of "Where the hell did that come from?"

Pull the trigger.

Holy cow, I've developed a headache reading this so far.

I too find The League to be hilarious. Many laugh out loud moments. I'm trying to catch up on Flash Forward. I think I have three more on DVR to watch. It seems to get better with each episode. It will be interesting to see how everything comes together...or will it?
-
If he wants it bad enough, he'll show up in shape and try to return to form. I'm not saying he'll actually get there and end up having a starting job (be it RF, CF, or DH), but maybe we will be surprised.
-
One has to wonder what will happen if Jones returns to form (or even close to what he used to be). I doubt they are counting on it, but if another OFer isn't signed or acquired, and we go into spring training with Rios, Quentin, and a AAA guy (Danks), that leaves quite the door open for Jones. Regardless, having that type of player available off the bench will make a good team better.
-
Do you think he'll wear the crazy socks?
-
Very low risk and a potential big reward especially since it's considered a bench signing. Sure it's another guy that KW wanted years ago, but like with Omar he adds a lot of depth. I like it.

I like the time from Thanksgiving to Christmas, but I think my favorite is Thanksgiving. It's the kickoff to the holiday season, and best of all it's time to do nothing but eat and watch football. Oh, and drink beer.
-
Wow, the 2010 Sox are already written off before Thanksgiving. Well, that will save me a lot of time over the summer. I can concentrate on doing stuff other than watching the Sox. I agree that there are some question marks in the lineup, but there are question marks every year. Now, if things look the same in late February, this thread might have a little more meaning. I'm not nervous at all. After the disappointment of 2009 I'm not expecting a repeat of 2005. Would I like to see a WS run? Absolutely, and I think with a few more additions/subtractions it could happen. OF/DH is the biggest hole right now for offense, and a bullpen arm or two will be needed. Not nervous now, but I might be come late February if the lineup looks the same.
-
So if the Sox do sign him, and the Vizquel thing goes as planned, is the only whole left the OF? Or do the Sox go with someone from within?

Jenks not happy with Guillen commenting about his weight

Deal with it, Chubs. You're an athelete...act like it. -
Or you could go old school and say that a certain player is your favorite White Stocking.
