Sox consider shutting down Floyd and Buehrle
hogan873 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
With 6 more games against Detroit, it will most likely come down to at least the first series before it can be agreed upon that the Sox are eliminated. So, if they are not eliminated and they decide to shut down Buehrle in addition to Floyd, you'd really have to wonder the decisions by Ozzie and the gang. I can see sitting Floyd if he's hurting, but sitting Buehrle would be ridiculous. -
Sox consider shutting down Floyd and Buehrle

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 08:06 AM) Well I don't want to do anything until the Tigers series anyways. Just because you never know. But say we get swept by KC here or something and completely fall out of it. If they decidwe to shelve MB and Floyd they might as well do the same for Danks. Let Peavy, Hudson, Freddy, DJ and Torres finish the year out. If nothing else, it will give the Sox (and us) a chance to see these guys pitch. If next year's fifth starter's job is going to be up for grabs with Garcia, Hudson, and Torres battling it out anyway, this will be a nice preview. -
Quentin needs to eat his oatmeal.

Is that Kanye West?
-
Absolutely bring Freddy back. He's been solid as a fifth starter and would hopefully do the same for us next year.

Man, makes me miss living in Alaska even more.

Cartoons still entertain me.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 09:27 AM) The Sox arent going to put him out there if they think he is still hurt. It has nothing to do with them being mathematically eliminated, they are just letting the guy pitch This is what I have been thinking. Not to put words in Peavy's mouth or thoughts in his head, but I would think the Sox will let him pitch if he's healthy and wants to pitch. And being a competitor, I would think he would want to pitch.

Manny cutting off that throw was funny, but also funny in a sad way. Typical Manny trying to steal the limelight. Wait, sounds a lot like Kanye West....

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) This thread served as bad luck. We've dropped another game to them in the loss column since it was started and they haven't lost since it was started. I'm still trying to figure out how one season can go down the drain on one roadtrip. I hope we have no obvious losing roadtrips like that 10 gamer next year. It was patently unfair. No team in the Central is going to win at NY and boston that time of year and making us go to Minnie added insult to injury. That road trip was BS, especially considering the time of the season. But, even though it was an unfair road trip, the Sox totally tripped over their own feet and gave away some games. It should have been a 5-5 road trip.

Seven words or less...I wasn't aware of that.

Quietly, I try to wake up.

When Pods is looking to the 3rd base coach for signs it looks like he's ready to cry. He always seems to have that emotional look on his face.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 02:50 PM) Is it just me or does Pods look like Jim from The Office? Maybe a little. If Jim were to throw a wad of chaw in his cheek it might be spot on.

What is getting you through the off-day?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) In my league, we're tied 85-85. He's got Brady, I've got Gates and San Diego's Defense. Who will win? I'm somewhat in the same boat. I'm down 86-79, but I have Brady and Gates. I figure as long as Brady doesn't go down again... -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Why do you keep saying that? Have you talked to him personally? Does he feel depressed? Yeah, we had a beer last night at Hooters. No, but I would think that he's the type of guy that would like to pitch if he's ready. I'll keep my comments to a minimum about how players feel...sorry.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 09:09 AM) If we're out of it then why start any of our everyday starters? What's the point. Rest everyone. Right. If they want to shut down Peavy because the Sox are out of it, then shut down Dye (because he can't hit the ball), Rios (because he can't hit the ball), Quentin (because he's not having fun), Pods (because he's only hitting .300), Beckham (because we don't want him to get hurt and lose out on ROTY), AJ (because he has blond hair), and Konerko (because he's slow). My post is obviously in jest. I just think all the talk of shutting Peavy down is getting old. If he's healthy and wants to pitch, let him pitch.

There's absolutely no reason to NOT have Peavy pitch this year. It doesn't matter if the Sox are out of it or not. He needs to pitch to feel good about coming back from his ankle injury and the line drive off his elbow. I see no harm in limiting his pitch count, but to shut him down is ridiculous.

I too am surprised that more isn't made of 9/11. I don't necessarily think that it needs to be a holiday, but you don't hear as much as you'd think. I imagine 9/11/11 will be a big deal, being the 10th anniversary. My oldest daughter was 2 weeks old when 9/11 happened. Last year we were watching the special on the History Channel, and she kept saying she can't believe that actually happened. I still feel the same way. It was something so horrible and intense that we tend to almost think it was a movie...maybe to deal with the fact that something so terrible can actually happen.

QUOTE (rackemup @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) If you can still get hurt during minor league starts and bullpen sessions, why not just start for the major league club. Heck if he goes 1.1 innings, he will have doubled Carlos Torres. As long as he is not throwing 60 mph, he should be starting for us. Or at the very least he could be our opener once or twice a week.(btw an opener is a real position in my head, it is basically a second closer who pitches the first inning of games and sets the tone, and it won't be long until every team has one) Interesting. Are there any teams that use an opener?
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 11:18 AM) Even if he is just a 5 or 6 inning pitcher, Peavy would make us a heck of a lot better. Exactly.

My fear is that the season will come down to the last six games against Detroit. If we go into that stretch less than 6 games back it's going to be extremely stressful, and I will have to consume more beer. For excitement purposes it would be awesome. But just imagine the Sox taking a huge dump when it really matters (you know, like they've done several times already). If that happened at the end of the season, SoxTalk may have to be shut down due to negativity, screaming, and vomiting.

We can't forget what JD has done for the Sox. World Series MVP...need we say more. But, there's is definitely something wrong. He looks uncomfortable at the plate and otherwise disinterested. Even after the emotional 13th inning win last night he looked like he was upset. I want to hope that it's an injury, because I can't believe that he doesn't care.
-
In it to win it or not, I would really like to see Peavy get a start or two before season's end. He needs to go into the off season with a good feeling that he came back from his injury (and then the elbow knock) and pitched. I would have no problem with limiting his pitch count, but he needs to pitch in a Sox uniform this season.

QUOTE (The Critic @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) I mostly belched. But I always belch, so I'm not sure if it reflects on this discussion. I'm at work, so my belching was limited, but if I were at home enjoying a frothy Sam Adams I may belch more.
