QUOTE(Mplssoxfan @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) This is what I thought the intrepretation was, but I really wasn't sure. read my above post. dropped on the transition people. still counts as an out.

QUOTE(quickman @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:50 PM) i will take my chances. Both could get injured and never play again. I would rather go with veterans and get into the playoffs. But Young/Javy could really turn out to be a bust for us. on the whole i agree, i'll always trade a prospect for a proven player.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) For the rest of this year, I'll take the superior defense of Brian Anderson at the 1 or 2 most important defensive position on the field. As for '07 and beyond, well that's another story but all we're discussing here is the 2006 season. also remember that Shea is much more expansive than the cell, and that, in AAA Milledge was a relatively good fielder. who knows though, it's all speculative - on both our ends really...

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) ^^^ You don't need a 93+ mph fastball if you can throw a 72 mph hook for strikes. Garland's been throwing 92-94 mph all season, but is still getting shelled in about half of his starts because he can't locate his offspeed pitches. if ya look at his last bunch of games he's gotten a LOT better about that and the results show: since June 13th he's given up more than 2 runs only once. he's turning things around. i'd rather hold on to Garland. Though it's a moot point since he's not on the block...

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:49 PM) See, if you're going to take into account age and upside then you can't say Milldge is an upgrade over Anderson right now because those things have absolutely nothing to do with who the superiour player is currently. From what I saw of Milledge in his stint this year and from what Brian Anderson has done so far this season I'd say for the rest of '06 Brian Anderson is a much better fit for this team than Lastings Milledge. ok but how can you say that... even if their numbers are completely equal why would you say you'd rather have a BA than a Milledge?

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:34 PM) Exactly. Being a Boston fan is more than enough reason to ban someone.. haha i agree with you wholeheartedly!

QUOTE(striker62704 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) So many people have cried in the past about sacrificing prospects for current big leagues. After reading this article and seeing what talent we have given up in the past I feel trading the future for the present is a wise move. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb...t=.jsp&c_id=cws How many other prospects were all hype? cept Young and Gio WILL probably come back to bite us in the ass... especially if we end up trading Javy...

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:43 PM) Milledge OBP: .287 Anderson OBP: .280 Brian Anderson is hitting .333 for July and about .250 or so for the past month. That's pretty damn good considering how great his defense is. You can keep pointing to his .190 batting average all you want but it means absolute s*** if you're not breaking it down. the guy sucked, hard, for 2 months this year. That absolutely crippled his stats for the season, that .190 BA is in no way, shape or form indicative of the way he's played for the past month or so. Right now, there's not way you can say Milledge is s***loads better than Anderson, unless you have some secret stat I don't know of. he's 21, BA is 24. That two months BA sucked was MORE than the total amount of time Milledge was up this year. Who know's maybe he'd have gone on a tear too? it may have been a bit over the top to say he's 's***loads' than BA right now, but given age, ability, upside blah blah blah, i'd take milledge over anderson in a heartbeat - even right now.
-
QUOTE(iamshack @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:41 PM) How many errors does BA have? And Milledge? hmm... for what it's worth in 59 games in Triple-A this year he has 1
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:37 PM) That does not make him better than Anderson right now. He may have a much higher upside than Anderson but as of right now, I don't see how you can say Milledge and his 4 walks are "s***loads" better than BA. ah and what about BA's .190 average? and the 4 walks are in what, 86 at bats? BA's had 182...

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:22 PM) You know this how? like i've said before - bro's a mets fan, i hear almost as much about them as i do about the sox (hyperbole) milledge is a five tool guy who's ranked #13 overall right now as far as prospects go. sure he wasnt amazing in his time up this year - but 12 ribbies, 3 homers, 2 doubles and 3 triples just goes to show what he is capable of. (and in any case even his .233 average is better than BA's) EDIT: oh and he's just turned 21
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) Aaron Heilman? Sanchez? He would get rocked in the AL. Milledge? Nice prospect. Doesn't do jack for us this year and maybe next. sanchez is stud, and, granted milledge may not help much this year. he's s***LOADS better than BA right NOW and has the potential to be a perennial all-star

QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 02:17 PM) I umpire youth leagues in my area, so this is pretty interesting they sure don't put something like this in the rulebook lol but heres what I think to have possession of the ball, you have to be able to take it out of your mitt, so since the mitt flew off I would say that he didn't have possession and call the guy safe thats not true. a batter can be out on a flyout EVEN if the fielder drops the ball in transition from glove to hand. he just needs to have possession IN HIS GLOVE. I umpire as well for my city's babe ruth league and state tourney, i'd call him out. if ANY OTHER PLAYER comes over and picks up the ball out of the mitt it would be an out undoubtably.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:10 PM) I counted 11 quality starts by Freddy this year. And in only one of those did he give up more than 8 hits and 4 walks. I realize the guy has been VERY inconsistant this year. I'm still not ready to give him up for mediocre relievers and prospects. I hope Kenny isn't, either. there have been times where he is our MOST consistent starter in the last couple years. are we willing to give up complete game one hitters (which he loses) and the like for prospects. i dont know - yeah he's not as hot this year but he's still a helluva pitcher who keeps us in games, and when he's on he's dominant. javy on the other hand i'd trade in an instant for flash.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 04:02 PM) I'm saying some of the mods here ban people for no reason whatsoever, and that those few moderators shouldn't be moderating a board because of it. That was obvious, I just disagree. it's never no reason

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Man, these last few days have felt like 2 weeks. I'm lost without White Sox baseball. Let's get this second half started off right. amen to that! i've been sitting around all day just WAITING for 5:30... ugh 2 and a half more hours... -
QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 02:37 PM) Erroneous. By the way, some of these are excellent rules. Jason's dream is to become fixated in the sports world, can you imagine someone coming to Jason's site and seeing... "THE f***ING WHITE SOX WON! f*** THE RED SOX! f*** THERE FANS! f***! f***! f***! WE WON YOU c*** f*** BALLS b**** DUMBASS f***!" ...after each time the White Sox win. And then discuss how badly the other team got 'f***ed up.' It's just so stupid. Good stuff, Jason. it wasnt erroneous in context... ok maybe the wsi reference was - but my primary point was to praise the mods here. i think that was obvious.

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 12:12 PM) What? I NEVER said that. I came in chat, and said that we wanted to talk to you all to know what was going down... and if you had questions, talk to us. I didn't say it was up for debate. Read the first post of this thread, that was closed at first. i never said it was up for debate either. you just wanted to hear what we thought about it... not that you'd change it and i guess i just assumed that pertained to this thread as well since this initially started locked (or did it, maybe i just thought it did?) in any case, bottom line is these are the new rules, we'll follow 'em, soxtalk will be a happy place.

QUOTE(hi8is @ Jul 14, 2006 -> 11:12 AM) as long as i can say things like you scally wagged plank deck im cool. is that allowed? i mean, think about it.... a scally wagged plank deck could be a pretty good complament.... some people might get an ego boost after being called a long peice of wood. i love you.
