Hell be here all night folks.

Anyone watch the following?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 11:13 AM) What is sad is even in that interview, he is still more articulate than Derrick Rose. Sherman is smart, hes just arrogant. And the real issue is that who is going to say hes wrong, you dont have to be humble if youre actually the best.
-
Sherman is just one of those rare people who are super talented and smart at the same time. It often leads to them being arrogant/douches. He probably is a decent human, but in the moment, his ego is going to explode and well you get what you saw last night.
-
I thought Swisher would be good. I liked Gio, but thought Swish made a ton of sense. That sucked.
-
Brandon Allen trade I was right on the money about. I thought Olivo would be better than he was, I also thought Flowers would be worth something.
-
This is a big 4 minutes, Im not sure Patriots can afford to get down more before half.
-
Tammie was so wide open haha
-
Yankees would also presumably spend more money if their was a chance Boston or a direct competitor was after Tanaka.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 10:02 AM) So who do we like today, fellas? I'm going with a Denver -4.5 and Seattle -3.5 parlay for $200, Alex. Hard to bet against home team and those lines.

How can I provide statistics of an event that hasnt happened? I can provide statistics that Cubs attendance is down, http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/...n-last-15-years I dont care about the Cubs, I care about the White Sox. The White Sox are also getting killed on season ticket renewals, what would help for many of those people is beating the Cubs at signing a big name player. You can say what you want, but I know Cubs and Sox season ticket holders, this could be potentially a big deal for either franchise. Thats not to say if the Cubs got Tanaka and the Sox won the next 10 world series that it would matter, but it could give them a slight advantage at the right moment that could lead to a much bigger one in the future. Business is sometimes about seeing all of the pieces and how the fit together, not for just today, but for 20 years from now and trying to turn the tables on the Cubs dominance. When they were owned by the Tribune it was impossible, now its not.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) I disagree, a little. Most of the time if both teams are good or both a bad this is true. However, with the losing and complaints of the Cub fans in the past year, I think the season tickets are significantly down, it's a good time to "steal" some fans. This can only help the Sox for budget reasons. Yup, there has never been a time in my life where there has been as much "disinterest" in the Cubs, and you can see Wrigley from my window. Most of my non-baseball friends prefer the Cell and going to White Sox games. With 2 young flashy international free agent signings and an exciting team the Sox could make a run at trying to take this town.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 02:21 PM) The problem with this is that it really doesn't square with history. In 2006, there were 6.1 million tickets sold between the 2 teams. In 2013, there were 4.4 million tickets sold. Yeah the economy has changed slightly, but that tells me "There is a much larger market of baseball fans in Chicago that could be motivated if either team was good, and no one should waste their time worrying about the other team as much as getting the now disinterested people back into the seats". ???? Those disinterested fans are free agents, whats more likely to draw them in as a Sox fan: Sox sign big name FA pitcher Cubs sign big name FA pitcher Once again the Mcondalds-BK comparison. There are 100 hungry people if McDondalds has a new exciting deal and BK does not, who do you think gets more of the undecided hungry people?
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) That was just an example. These types are realistic as when Sabathia, Maddux or other Cy Young types come up. My comment was based more on the "if there was ever a time to do it" comment. This to me would be a proven MLB players as opposed to a player who is a mystery to the MLB. He could be Darvish, he could be Irabu. All had the reputation of one of the best in Japan when they came to the MLB. true, I more just meant that the stars are aligned for this to possibly happen, that some big name teams may be out and if its Cubs v Sox at the end, then you may want to overpay to beat them.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 02:05 PM) I would say if there is ever a time it would be with a proven MLB pitcher such as the LA did with Kershaw. I would take a chance with Tanaka but it's not my first choice. Kershaw isnt a realistic option. Not many times do 25 year old Cy Young winners hit FA. And Im not sure if its overpaying when they are arguably proven to be the best.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) Wow. Who cares? Thats like saying why would McDonalds care if there is a BK across the street. There is a limited market of baseball fans in Chicago. Any acquisition that can tip fair weather fans from being "Cub" fans to "Sox" fans is a huge deal. With the decline of the Cubs, the Sox could easily make huge headway in the city. More fans= more money. Its not like the Sox are selling out, they need better attendance.

Brave New World is probably my favorite book and I always liked that "The Doors" were named after his book "The Doors of Perception". A govt that controls through happiness and logic is far more dangerous than oppression and censorship. But I dont consider him an American or his books to be American Literature (unfortunately).
-
If there was ever a time to over pay it would be for a young potential international superstar while denying your in city rival.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 11:52 AM) If I'm the White Sox- 1. Tell Tanaka there's a whole (very nice) town of only Japanese people 5 minutes from The Cell 2. Pay 100 Japanese $25K each to move into this town 3. Pay 100 non-Japanese $25K each to move out of this town 4. Build a mansion right in the center of the town 5. Sign Tanaka 6. Move Tanaka into that mansion PROBLEM SOLVED. Yeah creating a program that reflects Japanese internment camps should be a great sell.

Why not try and pitch Michael Crichton? Jurassic Park, etc. Id also say Stephen King "Running Man" (originally published as Bachman) could be a fun book to compare to Hunger Games. If you want more classical you cant go wrong with Mark Twain but that may be slightly more difficult.
-
The Sox have shown that they can be a good home for a Japanese player. If the money is close, that could be a reason to pick Sox over Cubs.
-
Honestly if I was to guess as to 1 reason why the Sox may have a punchers chance it would be Shingo. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws From all accounts he has been nothing but complimentary of the White Sox and their fans.
-
Other side of the coin is that in a loaded draft sometimes a great player can slip to the middle of the 1st.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) Probably better. During that time we had the Mike Davis Experiment (which admittedly did somehow involve a trip to the National Championship, plenty of talent to compete) and the Sampson Explosion and its aftermath. Crean's a great recruiter but not so much a coach. What I'm curious to see is what happens when Ryan leaves in ~5 years (he is 66 after all). It'd be funny if all of a sudden Wisconsin starts playing at a breakneck pace. I think that theyll have either Tony Bennett or Greg Gard take over. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) You keep saying how you barely know any Indiana fans, except on this board. Who's refusing to admit Wisconsin has been a better team of late? That whole "moving of the goal post" bulls*** you spewed keeps getting turned back on you, because you clearly have no idea what you're even arguing anymore. Wisconsin has kicked Indiana's ass for the last 5-6 years. You keep saying we're throwing out all these "excuses". Wisconsin has been very solid for years now. Is Indiana dying to be Wisconsin? Hell. No. And before the goal posts get moved again. That's not a slap in the face to Wisconsin. This is as good as Wisconsin has ever been as a program. Indiana fans, along with the program, just want more. I actually have no clue what you are talking about (whats new). In the X years ive seen you post here, this is probably the most complimentary thing youve ever said about Wisconsin. So sure, if this is your opinion, then I have no reason why we are arguing. Its just that 1) youve never stated anything like this before and your back tracking now or 2) I completely zone out when I read your posts because I just presume that its nothing more than haterade. I strongly suspect that its 1. -

QUOTE (farmteam @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) Better =/= more talented. And for the time I was talking about, 10-11 (Oladipo's freshman year), Wisconsin WAS more talented. And better. Like I've said, many times. I would think it's adorable you think I proved your point, but you've tried to make so many points and moved the goal posts so many times I don't even know which point you think I proved. And now I'm just mad at myself for letting myself get dragged into one of your pissing matches. 99.9% of this conversation wasnt directed at you, its just a conversation of the nonsense He_Gawn has been spouting over the last X years. Youre a reasonable poster, you call it how you see it, I have no problem with your arguments. The point I was making is that Wisconsin over the tenure of Bo Ryan is at least as good as Indiana. Not many Indiana fans are willing to admit Wisconsin was better even for 1 year, its always an excuse.
