I think the Grammys were probably right about Daft Punk being #1. The only album arguably better is Yeezus. They should probably stop doing Rap awards, I guess originally Macklemore wasnt even going to be considered rap, and was going to be pop. Even the Jay Z selection is nonsense. I think that Yeezus really is underrated. Its basically Random Access Memories getting hit with a sledge hammer. Its just so remarkably complex. In other news Google Play has some great albums for $1.99 today. Vol 2 Hard Knock Life, College Drop Out, etc. Not sure how much they are charging for Stankonia because I already bought it.

This reminds me of that movie Joe Versus The Volcano.

Pft Football games are won on the field, internet arguments are won on the boards!

Jake, Its really not worth it. Even I, who actually hates govt regulation, understands you just cant let people do whatever they want on the road, because there is no way to fix the possible harm. General libertarian/utilitarian principles are about things that can be replaced. Until we can bring back the dead, we have to recognize that we are going to have to disallow some risky behavior.

Yeah thats why my friend and I drove from Chicago to Houston. He bought a cheap van for the price of renting a uhaul. We did use a trailer hitch. Of course the van almost didnt make it and we almost got stranded in Lufkin Texas, when some random guy a gas station fixed the transmission problem. But we could only drive like 30 mph for a good part of the trip.

QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 11:02 AM) The issue is a single 22 year old female inviting strangers into her apartment to see and buy the item. We must really like you Tex because not one of us has made a hilarious comment.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) I think they've done studies that show you're just as impaired high as you are drunk. In both situations your reaction time drops significantly. I dont think there is an absolute science behind it. But I can count the amount of times Ive been so high Ive had to sit down on 2 hands. In comparison, I cant count how many times ive been so drunk I could barely walk or needed assistance getting into a cab. Its more about how high/drunk you can get. At least for me, marijuana hits a plateau where it just doesnt matter how much more I smoke, its the same result. Alcohol not so much. Honestly at this point smoking a cigarette is more likely to put me on my ass than weed.
-
QUOTE (Tex @ Jan 24, 2014 -> 07:21 AM) The whole impaired driving argument is why I thought the legalization of marijuana wouldn't happen this fast. As we've become stricter and stricter about impaired driving, adding another legal substance to the list of potential causes seemed to run counter to conventional wisdom. And before someone posts that they drive better high than straight then why isn't there a scandal in autoracing calling marijuana a performace enhancing drug? I dont think anyone will say you "drive better" when you smoke. But I think most will agree that unless you fall asleep from smoking that you are likely in a much better condition than drinking. Alcohol is one of the few drugs that really can just shut down your brain function.

Once drove from basically Lakeview to Houston with one of those uhaul trailer things hitched to the back of a van. Not sure how much it cost, but it was just a small trailer that held a ton of junk.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) Oh no it is f***ing not. Drunk driving is drunk driving. Since when are people so gullible when it comes to this s***? You all drink, right? You know. Why is it not enough to just say "it's up to you if you had too much but if you kill someone it's your ass"? If I could make it so that if you kill someone drunk driving you die and they come back to life, sure, go for it. But unfortunately if you cant fix the result, you have to try and stop it before it happens.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) It's not as dangerous as people make it out to be. This teenage girl that weighs like 110 lbs was legally drunk and high on scripts managed to drag race a Lamborghini without incident. There's maybe 50 people in this country that are actually f***ed up at .10; much less .08. It's all about control and the pockets of criminal defense lawyers who would be on SNAP if those laws went away. Ive managed to operate a vehicle while on hallucinogens, it doesnt mean that it wasnt extremely reckless, stupid. And strangely when I grew up, I recognized that was not okay behavior and now I wont drive when I drink at all. I pay for a cab. Its called being a responsible human.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 11:37 AM) If the property is access-controlled (e.g. fenced off), it's not illegal depending on jurisdiction. Exactly if he wants to be an idiot and take risks where innocent people arent going to get hurt, go for it.
-
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 11:25 AM) When I did it nobody got hurt. When Bieber did it nobody got hurt. Where's the victim? Unfortunately due to your reckless behavior you could potentially kill/harm someone so terribly that money cant fix the problem. Thus we cant just "wait for the result and punish accordingly". In many cases I agree though, we should only punish those who cause harm to another. If Bieber was on his own property and he was acting like a stupid idiot, Id have no problem.

Jamaican Beach party at Rocks basement.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 01:02 PM) I wouldn't mike Dice K or Tommy Hanson on this team. Of the list those are the 2 most interesting.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) Padilla thinks we will sign a mid-tier pitcher FA. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...iss-with-tanaka Im getting this strange 2002 and 2003 vibe from the Sox right now. I can definitely see a guy like Hanson being a Loaiza. (edit) Looking at those offseasons reminds me of some great times on this site with the Colon/Vazquez rumors trade.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 09:41 AM) That's not exactly the way it works with players though. When the Yankees are playing the Sox at the Cell, Tanaka's check will be taxed at the Illinois level and so on. He will only be taxed at the ridiculous NY level when they are playing at home. This is correct. You are taxed where income id earned. So 81 games at NY rates, the rest at whatever state yankees played in.

Sources say if this thread hits 10k posts Tanaka is the White Sox to lose. #getonit

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:18 PM) The author presented zero evidence that it was relevant to his story except for the fact that it made finding the person's degrees harder, but the author himself acknowledges that people change their names and that would do the exact same thing. And yet, the discovery that she hadn't just changed her name was basically the entire thrust of the article. So your mad that he wrote an article in a way that you dont like? Thats nothing new, I bet over 50% of articles are written in a way I dont respect in order to sensationalize and make money. Im still not seeing what the issue is. Well besides for the, transgender should be treated with kid gloves because we now treat "others" with kid gloves because we dont want the truth to make them do something bad.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:08 PM) But if the author wanted to bring it up...he needed to be able to answer that quesiton with a yes. There is zero evidence in the article presented that it was the case. So now the media cant present evidence and let the reader come to their own conclusion? So I assume that there are no articles suggesting Barry Bonds was better with steroids unless the author was able to answer the question "yes" before he wrote it? Come on Balta, freedom of the press is one of the most important things in America. Telling the truth is almost always okay.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:04 PM) With Mr. Madoff, he was actively using the fact that he was Jewish to reach out to Jewish communities to gain more investors in his ponzi scheme. The fact that he was Jewish was used as part of the confidence scam directly. The fact that he was jewish directly relates to why so many people trusted him, why they didn't do more homework, and why folks who lost money were involved in that scheme in the first place. And that brings us to the ultimate question, was her scam in any way assisted by the fact she was a woman instead of a man? I cant answer that question, but I also dont want the media to take away my ability to think about it.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:00 PM) It can depend on the manner that you portray these facts. If you're constantly talking about "the Jewish Financial Banker Bernie Madoff" and really seem to be focusing in on his being Jewish, well, there's an awful long line of antisemitism towards Jews and banking/money and you might want to rethink what you're saying or how you're saying it. But no one would dare suggest that they should re-write the article to omit a fact. Thats all Im saying here. Maybe the author could have been more tactful, maybe he could have focused less on it, but suggesting that he should have completely omitted it is something I cant agree with.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 04:54 PM) Right. You can absolutely show that Vanderbilt did not have the credentials she said she did (when talking to the investor) without saying, "And get this! She used to be a dude!" You can say, "I've looked into Vanderbilt's credentials. I've searched her name; I've searched all aliases that she has provided or I have been able to find in the public record. She never worked at X. She never got degree Y. Based on my research, her credentials are false. I recommend that you confront her on that issue." She how I did that without saying, "She used to be a man!!" And yeah, if I'm reading an article about Madoff, why is the fact that he is Jewish even remotely relevant? Why should that be a part of any article on Madoff unless it's a biography of the dude? I dont think Ive commented about telling the investor. I dont think telling the investor was necessary or part of writing a factual article. Im talking about the article. As for Madoff, the reason that its relevant is he used his connections in the Jewish community as a means to commit the fraud. Its a fact, its relevant, its part of the story of how Madoff was able to get away with it. Part of the story of who the victims were, etc. Theres no reason to hide it, the same as there is no reason to hide that Dr Vee was once a man, its a fact, its part of the story. It is what it is.
