QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) I wasn't trying trying to "troll" you. Most of the conference perceive purdue and Wisconsin under the same light. I understand no wisconsin fan wants to see that, but that perception is definitely out there. Scan opposing teams' forums if you don't believe it. I dont care what fans on random internet websites say. I dont lie about my teams. Wisconsin is a physical team, they use their body as much or more than any team in the NCAA. They do not hand check excessively. They do not put their forearm on players excessively. That type of defense goes against everything that Bo Ryan teaches, which is based on feet position and staying in front of the player with hands high. Facts mean more than perception. http://www.teamrankings.com/ncaa-basketbal...-fouls-per-game Wisconsin 14 fouls per game 5th lowest in nation. Previous year 14. Purdue 17.8 fouls per game 195. Previous year 17.7 MSU (who you dont mention, which is absurd) 16.2 per game 60th. Previous year 17.5 So unless you are arguing that there is some sort of NCAA conspiracy to not call fouls on Wisconsin, while calling them on Purdue and MSU, its just not true. But whatever, the people who believe these things just arent watching Big10 basketball. Which is really the point of my post. You can tell the people who watch basketball versus the ones who just parrot perception by statements like that. I gave you credit for trolling and knowing the facts, guess I was wrong. -

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 12:24 PM) I knew you'd come in, guns blazing. We'll see, the rest of the conference has a different view of Wisconsin and Purdue's defense. If you think Purdue and Wisconsin play a similar defense you clearly just have not watched college basketball. Im pretty sure in the last 10 years of Wisconsin basketball I can count the amount of times Wisconsin has used ball pressure on a guard coming up the court on 1 hand. They dont even use press. You seriously are misinformed. You trolled me, I knew that from the start when you mentioned Wisconsin instead of MSU. I just used it as an opportunity to remind everyone that regardless of how much you may whine or cry about Wisconsin, Indiana still hasnt beat them in the last 11 tries. Alleged blue blood program that has fans who troll because they cant win. Just makes my day. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 12:15 PM) Not to defend congress and all, but their "vacations" consist of meeting with constituents daily for hours. They leave washington to meet back home so their voters concerns can be met, and then brought back to Washington for next session. The people they really care about are in Washington called lobbyists. The meetings with constituents is just a paid pr vacation.

QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 06:27 AM) New changes on defense... Seems like Purdue and Wisconsin are going to have to change their whole gameplan. http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball...-2013-14-season Wisconsin doesnt play this type of defense, so not sure why it would impact them. If you are going to complain about Badger style at least appropriately argue that they foul with their lower body and get away with a lot of non-hand contact. This will tremendously help Wisconsin actually. They usually struggle against teams that are really handsy on guards. Maybe with some better scouting Indiana can actually beat Wisconsin this year? -
QUOTE (Y2HH @ Oct 16, 2013 -> 10:42 AM) However, I would tell people not to panic regardless ... if anything, look at it as an investment opportunity if they drive it off the cliff ... the market will rebound regardless, as it always does. Sure just like real estate will always increase in value because land is a finite resource and thus scarce. The problem is that if you get in at the wrong time, you may be forced to sell or take a loss because you simply couldnt "wait for the market to rebound." There are going to be real consequences because of this. It may not be devastating, but its just like a credit card where you had a low apr, but due to missing a payment it went up 20%. Sure, not the end of your life, but its wasted money for nothing. And Id have to assume that is really the fundamental principle on being fiscally responsible, not wasting money you didnt have to waste. The even better part is that to pay off the mistake, eventually someone is going to have to increase revenue (ie raise taxes). And then we all get lol at ourselves, because we want less taxes, but we cant do the simplest thing to prevent them from being ultimately raised: PAY YOUR f***ING BILLS ON TIME
-
If they go for impeachment it will show how truly out of touch they are with society. Its the equivalent of Wisconsin fans asking that President of the NCAA be removed because of what happened during the ASU game. Its become absurd, and I honestly hope there are extreme consequences for this. And the most troubling part, is that I actually believe some Republicans have good ideas. They just are unwilling to stand up for themselves. They are US congressman and they dont have backbones, what the f*** have we become?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) And I agree. I don't get the strategy. I would have let Obamacare fail (as it will) and then use that in the next election. I agree as well. Even if it doesnt fail, it will have problems.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) Nope. Do you think that they just miscalculated and thought Obama would give in? The most frustrating part of this for me is I just cant see the strategy. I wouldnt mind it as much if I really believed that Republican voters wanted the reps to do this. That is the point of representation. But this time I just feel like a certain few are doing what they want and dont really give a damn about anyone else.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) But you know this isn't September 31. It is different. If the house goes absentee on this, literally or figuratively, the GOP pays the bulk of the price politically. And EVERYONE ELSE IN THE COUNTRY pays the literal tab. I would love to see legislation that says, if at any time Congress goes into shutdown or default, ALL chairs in both chambers automatically come up for election the next cycle AND none of the current reps or Senators can run. Never happen, but would be great. What will happen is that they are going to vote themselves another raise for doing a bang up job! Are any people who voted Republican okay with this? I mean, these are the guys they elected, so is this what they want?

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 02:08 PM) I was annoyed before, but figured it would work itself out. I'm honestly scared now. Im not scared, Im angry. If we dont pay our bills, we are deadbeats. Its as simple as that. I have never not paid a bill in the history of my existence. When I say "im going to do something" it has meaning. I just cant understand how anyone can support this. Whether you are Republican or Democrat, I just dont see how you can support not paying bills for things we have already spent money on. Fight about future spending until the cows come home, but when you buy something, you pay for it. And Im also angry because its making my country look like fools. We are becoming laughingstocks. Does no one even have pride in being an American anymore?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 01:28 PM) Cruz's voters and his campaign coffers would love it. Cruz doesn't particularly seem to care what the rest of the GOP thinks, either. Doubtful. Large donors are going to go berserk if this impacts stock prices on wall street. Ive been told 4 weeks of shutdown was what major institutions were willing to accept, before they start to sell. Republicans and Democrats both answer to the same master. Multinational corporations arent going to forgive a Senator who cost them billions of dollars over political idealism.

If they were smart we wouldnt be in this predicament.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) Right, but the thing is, deadlines ARE usually missed when building a web site. Stuff comes up. But they had years to get this ironed out and only ironed out what they wanted in Spring 2013. It's just madness. Not really. Ever worked with a company that has a board of directors that is waging a civil war against itself? This is the exact type of s*** that happens. 1 side sandbags the funding etc, etc, it doesnt work, they smugly say "Look it doesnt work" and everyone is hurt.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 15, 2013 -> 11:43 AM) Can you imagine if the response if the Bush admn had been in charge of this disaster? Yeah I can, the headline would be. President George Bush heroically trying to help America as Democrat Congress f***s up regular peoples healthcare. The govt isnt run well because of both parties. Anyone who blames one over the other is either 1) lying or 2) uninformed. I just hate the dishonesty and the blame game.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:59 PM) I happen to think victims have a lot of rights. Family members are victims too. I had a best friend brutally murdered by a moron many years ago. Her case was never brought to trial because the murderer was given life for some other murders and they didn't see a need to try him for her case since he got life. He's still rotting in jail. But I like to believe her mom, her dad, her sister, me and those who knew her were also victims. Just because she's gone doesn't mean she doesn't have the right to have her murderer convicted and burned. Would be interesting to see how Jenks responds to this because he is more economically driven, and I presume the main reason for not going for the conviction is that economically it makes no sense to spend thousands of tax payer dollars on a verdict that is redundant. So Ill put it back in your hands. Should the govt spend tax payer dollars on court cases that are redundant (Ie the convict is already going to be executed/life in jail)? My answer is that depends on what you believe the justice system is built for. I do not believe its built for vengeance, or at least I hope that its not. I want to believe that it is built as a deterrent and that the hope is that no one will ever break the law, and if they do we are forced to punish them, but not because it makes us feel good about doing it. So based on my belief, Id say if hes already being executed/life imprisonment, it probably doesnt make much sense to spend lots of time and money on another conviction, even if that means the victims family/friends wont get the closure that they want.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:54 PM) In a perfect world, how should her case be handled in your opinion? Let's say she truly is guilty (which she damn well appears to be 100 percent). Give me a date when she will be sentenced and when in a truly caring society she SHOULD be sentenced. Thank u. How should it go? She should get an attorney, either private or state. The attorney should do everything in their power to either a) prove her innocent or b) work the best deal possible for her prior to trial. If for some reason a deal can not be worked it should go to trial and then a judgment should be rendered. How long should it take? I dont know, depends on the facts. A case like this, I cant imagine that there is need for a ton of discovery (written or oral), but who knows, Im not trying the case. If we are a "truly caring" society, then we shouldnt care what date she is sentenced. We should care that she had every opportunity to defend her actions and then we still found her guilty. Thats what I care about. The prosecution already has the wealth and power of the state behind it, it doesnt need anymore advantage.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) If you view living as more important than death, it's not a get out of jail free card. She's no longer allowed to live a life. That's worse than dying now and having no after life, and no worse than dying now and living eternity in hell. That's just as logical. But really my view on this comes down to it being a waste of money/resources keeping her alive. No your first part isnt logical. Living in pain is not = to living. This is why people commit suicide (like many prisoners) because it offers an escape from pain. Most people can not handle living in a cell for a night, let alone for years. No longer allowed to live presumes that living in and of itself is better than dieing, which I dont agree with. As for its a waste of money/resources. Sure, if you just want to look at economically and not have punishment be part of it. I can obviously understand that if its truly cheaper. (edit) And best judicial system 100 years ago??? Were black people and women even allowed to testify back then? (Its sad that this is both a joke and serious question) QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Are all u guys attorneys? So nothing can be improved in our judicial system?? It's perfect as it, with all these delays in cut and dried cases?? This is a family murder where EVERYONE agrees she is guilty including her. As a taxpayer I happen to be appalled at all the delays. Where are the rights for the gawddarn victims???? Tell me please. The problem is that if you asked me how to fix the system, Id give defendants more rights, not less. So that likely isnt what you are wanting to hear. Rights of the victims? The victims are dead, no amount of speedy trial is going to fix that. No amount of lynchings, burnings, torture is going to bring them back. So at the end of the day, I have to protect the person who is alive and make sure that they dont end up being another victim. Because I cant bring back someone from the dead, I cant fix whats been done, I can only try and prevent a future injustice. That is why we dont force speedy trials on defendants (in fact its the opposite the defendant has the right to request a speedy trial, because a lengthy one is generally considered to be in the govts advantage.) Say the system is terrible, say as a taxpayer you are upset. I dont mind. Just dont believe you are going to convince me that we should be convicting people faster, or taking away rights of defendants. Not going to happen.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Based on the charges I'd find it difficult to believe she's not currently sitting in jail unless she's fabulously wealthy. I presume she is, but it just would have misconstrued the point I was making. It doesnt matter if shes in jail or not, that should have no bearing or impact on how fast the trial is. Innocent until proven guilty. It has to mean something, and for me its something that I actually believe is worth fighting for.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:20 PM) She has no reason being on this earth anymore. If you believe in punishment she has a reason to be on this earth. Being in jail for the rest of your life is worse than falling asleep. Either way she dies, if youre right and bad things happen to her for the rest of eternity, she just delayed it for X years. If Im right and nothing bad happens when she dies, then at least we didnt give her a get out of jail free card. Im just not sure how anyone who wants vengeance and punishment doesnt agree with this. They are always going to die, but you only have X years on this earth when you know theyll be tortured. I know it sick and twisted, but its logical.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) I'm just talking about this case. Nobody is suggesting she was coerced into making a statement she killed her grandchild. Why can't we change the system to put the alleged murderers at a disadvantage and not the victims' families? She can have a defense. Just do it on society's terms. Why waste time? We are talking about taking a sledgehammer to a f***ing baby. If you want a civilized society this s*** HAS TO STOP. I say change the system to give a better playing field for the victims and their families. What do you mean playing field for victims and their families? Weve spent 20,000 years creating a system where defendants are not put at a disadvantage, Im not about to screw that up because bad things happen. If shes guilty, shell go to jail. Maybe today, tomorrow or 2 years from now.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 02:56 PM) I disagree she is entitled to a strong defense in a case this cut and dried. She said she did it. Her relatives know she did it. I believe she is entitled to a defense but it should be at society's terms. i.e. A QUICK TRIAL. Let her team of lawyers scramble to get it together quickly, get her in court and get her sentenced. Look, what makes you believe our court system is working well?? You don't think it can be improved?? I happen to think so. In a case this blatant, this case where everybody is in agreement she did it, including the murderess, why can't we get her in the f***ing courtroom SOON and convicted?? You are saying I'm against America's system of justice. I am all for people getting their day in court. I am NOT FOR giving these people all sorts of time and the benefit of the doubt when THEY ARE GUILTY OF HEINOUS ACTS AND THERE IS NO CHANCE THEY ARE INNOCENT. NONE. Why do you think our current system of delay and zillions of appeals is the right way to conduct business in this decaying country of ours? You seem to accept this current system as the ONLY way we can and should do business. Why is that? I want improvements. And I want her in court soon so we can get on with the conviction. We have the best judicial system in the world because even the most guilty are deserving of the same defense as the most innocent. /shrugs The last problem of any country is giving defendants too many rights. It just isnt a real issue.

Jenks, I think its just trying to show how berserk even normal people are becoming.
