  1. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) They're almost all multi-millionaires and independently wealth. Their meager Congressional salary doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. Yeah it does, these people are the epitome of greed. They are multimillionaires who vote for raises when the govt is running a deficit. They are so greedy that instead of doing a maneuver to win political points "Ill give up my salary until we fix this mess." QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 03:23 PM) The incentive to lead. They aren't just looking for a paycheck, if that were the prime motivation what was the motive to argue in the first place? Just vote yes and you don't have to work hard at all. Their motive is their donors who are telling them that if they dont do X they wont get money in the next election, or they will donate to another candidate to run against them. I hate to say it, but none of these people are leaders. Leaders dont let s*** like this happen. They actually LEAD.
  2. What is the incentive to settle? They are still getting paid. They live in a world where they get to smash their brand new car and expect to be given a new one just because.
  3. I bet the cost to protect fort knox is more than my local chase as well. Not going to sit here and pretend I have any idea about what the cost should be. But I can venture to guess that there was some fat for big donors from both sides of the aisles. Much ado about nothing!

QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 05:10 AM) This season has been good. Brad is a great player. Too aggressive though. Brad is too much of a meat head. He should have just stuck to the original strategy. I think you want people on your alliance who dont have a loved one at the merge, because then they are reliant on you and there is no chance that their loved one was convinces them to do a different plan. Because thats really the most dangerous situation. If you had a merge with the 2 girls and their mothers, there was just no way that Brad could have controlled that group. So it would have been a way better play to get rid of them before Candice's husband, which is really where the wheels fell off.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 06:32 AM) As Democrats I believe it is important to look past partisan politics and wonder if this really is the boondoggle that will destroy America. The folks across the aisle are not stupid. It is easy to dismiss this as a ploy because if it is successful, it could destroy the party. Are they simply looking after themselves, or looking after the country? The only thing that would destroy America is to give in at this point. It doesnt matter if the Democrats are right or wrong, they just cant not give into this type of tactic. You cant give into extortion. If you do, then it becomes a legitimate strategic ploy in the future. Each party will continue to do this until eventually America is destroyed. What makes me the most annoyed is that they dont even have the courage to stand up and admit that is what they are doing. People like Ann Coulter prance around saying things like "the American people didnt want this". When has that ever mattered before? The American people may not want weed to be illegal, but we dont have a direct democracy, we have a republic where the legislators are elected and they get to do what the f*** they want. You really think the Republicans want direct election? Of course not. They just think they are so damn clever. And its finally time for the reckoning.

Nice, I like the concept. I also liked Jericho. Just something interesting about modern times that are messed up, but no zombie/monster to blame it on.

Revolution is on the "on demand" rotation. That means it usually gets watched in random batches. It definitely never blew me away, but there is a part of me that really wants it to.
  8. Because democrats are going to win the publicity battle this time and Republicans are idiots for fighting a battle thats already lost? I have no clue who they hire to do their strategy, but this is childs play. Seriously you just f***ing settle, 99% of America will forget it ever happened and then you do this battle all over again and hope the next time you are winning the publicity battle. This cycle will repeat until I die and people will think that all of this really matters. Guess what, it doesnt. The people with money play both sides. Besides for a few ideologues most just dont care who is in power as long as the person in power is willing to play the game. And you dont become President, Senator or Congressman unless you want to play. Might as well be 2 children fighting to be their parents favorite. Surprise ending, parents only care about themselves.

    Survivor still has amazing episodes.
  10. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 12:53 PM) Should we even continue the restriction on natural born American? If voters are willing to elect someone born outside the US shouldn't they be allowed to do that? We allow it in all other elected offices. Yes. Symbolism sometimes has value.
  11. Thats why Id need more facts. If a guy went through 4 weeks that felt like he was being burned alive every minute its probably worth more than if he sat at home for 4 weeks and got to watch netflix. There are a lot of things wrong with the legal profession, but capping medical malpractice claims likely isnt one of them. Thats just 2 remarkably powerful lobbies (Drs and insurance) putting on an amazing show. Its just so clever. Somehow the fact that Drs are making grave mistakes that are hurting people is forgotten. And even more hilarious the jury already has the ability to cap the award however they like dependent on the facts. So if tort reform is so popular and every person goes into the jury thinking "Im not going to give a ridiculous award", imagine how bad the facts must be to convince them to give these sums. I always tell people, to get a lot of money, you need to get hurt really really bad. And its probably not worth it.
  12. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) How about just less stupid regulations in general? Why stop with alcohol. Agree completely. Lets stop regulating: marriage, sex, drugs, and immigration...
  13. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 09:30 AM) Navy Pier. Our kid is going to be dropped off with my parents, who have a place in the city. I think that one you can get reserved seats (if so Id recommend). I saw Avatar there on a random weekday and it wasnt that full, but for some reason i feel like ive had an experience where it was jammed.
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 08:30 AM) That's true if it was only the very serious cases. How about a 2 million dollar settlement when a person got an infection (not necessarily the physician's fault) because the patient was delayed in returning to work for 4 weeks? These are the cases to which I'm referring. If you screw up you screw up and there should be penalties. Without the facts I cant really comment. But I have to presume that the infection did more than just cost the person 4 weeks of work. Otherwise that seems odd.
  15. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 8, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) Education shouldn't be a for-profit game though, especially if it's being paid with government funds. Healthcare probably shouldnt be a for-profit game either. And I actually think that about law as well.
  16. So you were taking one of the only substances known to harm almost every organ in your body and youre passing judgment on other people. Not sure if that falls under the category of "smart" or "hypocrite". (edit) Oh and to be clear, if you ever have any hesitation about taking any drug, listen to your instinct and dont take it. It should not matter what anyone says or tries to convince you of. If you are not certain you want to do something you shouldnt do it. I was more just commenting that you also should judge others because they may like something different than you. I really dont care, people should do what they enjoy. I just dont want it to sound like Im saying people should do drugs, because Im not.
  17. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 07:26 PM) Im only referencing the ones where its far exaggerated. Million dollar compensations for things that dont deserve it. There are many probably most who deserve it. Its like medicare fraud. Most deserve it and I dont havea problem with it. However it needs more oversite. Im not a lawyer and im sure the judgements are legal. However, many of the ones ive been involved with get many more times what its worth for rehab and getting back to function. This is greed. I may be eternally optimistic but unfortunately I just do not think you can convince people not to be greedy. So there will always be a client, lawyer, business, dr, person who is willing to try and game the system to make profit. And that is really why I think that everyone should get health care, because money and all that is just a game. Insurance risks really wont change, because the risk of people who dont have health insurance is already covered in a different form of insurance. It also is better for insurance because if you insure from birth you just want the largest amount of insureds. Unless you are going to exclude due to preconditioning, which then gets at a more fundamental question of do we as a society have a duty to try and ensure that everyone has an equally healthy life if science allows it, even if the cost is may be extremely high for some as compared to others.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) I messed with that stuff back in college, to me it was a little too altering, same with acid. I like to have some control over myself. The long term effects and the horrid depression are really big downsides. I meant that I dont make it myself, so without an actual chemical test its really hard to say exactly what it is. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) It's not pressed into pills. Pure MDMA won't press into pills. It's actually pretty mild. Ecstasy is more of a smorgasbord of drugs, like a drug cocktail. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 06:51 PM) It's stepped on, but usually not with other drugs. Why would a drug dealer cut drugs with other expensive drugs? It's not economical. Some people prefer the cocktail. They buy pills. Back in my day, they actually had people at raves that would test your pills so you know what's in them, Dancesafe.org. I'm not sure if it still exists. Im not sure how you know what powder in a capsule is. But I definitely know you can cut MDMA. As I said before I think sometimes its cut with Meth (aderol, etc) and seeing as some molly (especially stuff like moon rocks) can be really expensive. How much is it supposed to be in the clear capsule? Who knows. Its not really practical to weigh it on a digital scale, even if you have one that goes to a hundredth of a gram. Youd lose in the transfer and unless you test every single capsule its still possible 1 is different than the other. Sure its a lot different than back when you got a purple pill with a star that was mass produced, but Im not sure either is better than the other.
  19. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 06:00 PM) But is the person who spills hot coffee in their lap worthy of a 7 figure settlement because they are idiots? Read the case and why they ruled that way and then get back to me. McDonalds knew that the coffee they served was hotter than industry standards. They were hit with punitive damages (punishment) and the award was the amount of money McDonalds made selling 1 day of coffee (I believe). So it was because McDonalds knew they were serving a dangerous product. Not sure whether its right or wrong, but its more than just the lady was dumb. The coffee was so hot it basically melted her clothes. The case that really should make you sick is the Dr who sued BMW because they repainted his brand new car. I think they were originally hit with millions of dollars of damages. Amazing I can remember that case still: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_of_North_...a,_Inc._v._Gore And to be fair, I dislike most lawyers. I dont let my clients pull s*** like this. Which makes me a good or bad attorney depending on what you believe attorneys should be doing.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) Molly is just rebranded ecstasy. There is no "pure" mdma. Thats my feeling on the subject. These kids are young though, most 14 year olds just cant handle that type of weight on their brain. I personally wouldnt know. I dont mess with chemistry, Ill barely mess with horticulture.
  21. Im not either. But if Miley starts nailing Selena Gomez, Im going to be jealous.
  22. QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 7, 2013 -> 05:01 PM) I've been involved in far too many for it to be too overstated and that's just my limited experience in Illinois. I'm convinced that the laws need to change because the greatest cost in medicine is the malpractice insurance. But why should the injured the the ones to suffer? The insurance companies make money. The doctors make money. The guy who died because the doctor performed while drunk cant get a full recovery because we have a law that arbitrarily states a death is worth $200k? Insurance is a great cost in any industry with great risk. There is no guarantee that if you cap malpractice that doctors will charge less. So why take the risk? If Drs are willing to give free care, Im willing to give them complete indemnity from lawsuit. But if they want to get rich on peoples sickness, I expect that they are not going to accidentally cut off the wrong limb. Because unless we cap all medical mal, it doesnt matter if you cap regular as opposed to gross, the insurance companies are going to charge the same, unless they have certainty that the claim will never go above X. So really all medical mal caps do is hurt the people who are injured. Cause I cant imagine we are actually arguing that direct damages should be capped? IE If I go into the dr for an acl repair and he cuts my spinal chord I assume we all agree that I should be able to sue for the amount of money its going to cost me to completely change my life as i cant walk again...
  23. Ive told my friends that they could probably be pretty successful if they just filed small claims lawsuits and were willing to settle for nuisance value.
  24. Ultimately that is the real problem with this stuff. You cant look at it and have any idea what you are getting. Any pill could easily have PCP or worse. Im pretty confident that a lot of pills are cut with crystal meth.
  25. I was always a Bears, Sox and Bulls fan. For college I liked players more than teams when I was young. I liked ND because of the Rocket for a bit. I then liked FSU (Warrick Dunn, Boulware, Brooks). I always liked Michigan and Illinois because my cousins went there and those were the 2 schools I was supposed to pick from. I then went to Wisconsin...
