  1. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) Watch out Badger, we got orange on orange with an orange out going Saturday. Got it? Be scared. You guys should bring your reds. Watching that game on tv was amazing.
  2. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 12:05 PM) No I don't think a 13% growth in employment for a 68% increase in population is unreasonable. That said, regardless of what level you think is reasonable, I'm telling you that we could easily trim 5% off the rolls without any loss of service. Or, if you prefer, we could reallocate those 5% to improve the level of service. The problem is that there are sacred cows that no one is willing to cut. And of course the non-sacred cow of having to give your friends contracts so that they keep voting for you. But this is just business as usual. What isnt business as usual is when you stop working over a temper tantrum and your boss (the people) doesnt seem to care. IE We had a vote, pizza party won, and 40% of the workers refuse to work until we change it to taco party. This is what we have become. We are jokes.

    2013 TV Thread

What else can they do, there is no "lets try and solve this" storyline, so its basically little house on the prairie with gruesome deaths. It makes for an enjoyable 50 minutes to zone out to. The comedy I like so far is "The Goldbergs" but I lived in the suburbs in the 80s, so I have a special connection to it.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 14, 2013 -> 11:39 AM) Except it isn't, and you can plainly see that by this demonstration of government power and control. The government is literally showing off its depth and breadth by punishing the people for not getting funding for a mere 15% of the government. The government shouldn't have the ability punish its own people in such a way, even in a theorhetical ideal, let alone reality. The govt only has that ability because people wont hold them accountable for their actions. The fundamental problem with the govt is WE, THE PEOPLE. No amount of more or less govt is going to fix the problem. Either way the same people are going to rig the game. Im likely more anti-govt than you are, but I recognize that given no-govt or a lot of govt, its likely that most people would be more protected, better off, with more govt. Ideally we would need no govt and people could self govern. But a good amount of time/effort/words have been spent on why no govt results in Leviathan like societal conditions.
  5. Ive met 1 person that I know of from Soxtalk. Im pretty anonymous although a few people do know my real name.
  6. Went here tonight: http://threedotschicago.com/ Made me think of this thread and Jim.
  7. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 11, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) Interesting strategy here for the Dems. Despite Rush telling his listeners that they are close to victory and giving in would be "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory", it seems that the shut down is hurting the GOP more than it is hurting the Dems. Although it is hurting everyone. Should Dems hold out for total victory, or try to give up the least while trying to be the party that compromised and re-opened the government? What's the end game here? There is no end game here for the Democrats. They are literally watching the Republicans decimate their own party. Gave them enough rope and they finally hung themselves. My personal opinion varies. I almost always prefer settlement even if I have to look weak, because what do I really care if its in my best interest. But every once in a while Ill run into a jackass that just pisses me off and then I wont negotiate. So some days I think that Obama should throw them a little bone so that they can walk away with a little dignity. The other part of me thinks that he should sit down with the Republicans, look them in the eye and tell them that this is going to be there Thermopylae.
  8. In this case the President does have a magical power, its called a veto. And thats why strategically the Republicans likely could have never won this battle. Obama cant be re-elected, he can be an ideologue. Theyll never get a super majority, so any Republican idea that doesnt fit what Obama wants, is dead in the water. Which is why we voted in 2012.
  9. Win is a win, but the Bears need to start capitalizing and getting larger leads earlier. Will take some pressure of the make shift defensive line if they dont have to worry about the run as much.
  10. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) I said it at the time. Free 3 pts after TO. No brainier to kick it. On the first drive of the game against a team that hasnt won. Just horrific strategy.
  11. The Bears D also gave the Bears 10 free points, unfortunately the coaching staff decided not to take 3 of those.
  12. Ball was slightly underthrown so Jeffrey and the db got tangled up a bit. Jeffery and Marshall have just been abusing the Giants off the line.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 09:57 PM) Jennings had no reason to do anything on that play. We're lucky that wasn't unnecessary roughness. Exactly when I saw the replay I was kind of worried they were just going to call something because it was so ridiculous.
  14. I think the better question is wtf was he doing?
  15. The Bears should be up at least more than a score, annoying.
  16. So what, bad spots happen. That doesnt excuse coaching staffs from having multiple plays ready so that you dont waste 10-20 seconds per play trying to figure out what you want to do next.
  17. They play cover 2 and have multiple d linemen injured. What can they do? If the D-line cant play the front even or better, the lbs are in a tough spot because they have to respect the pass.
  18. Well thankfully Eli has now thrown 2 passes that should have been returned for tds lol
  19. Its also a mental thing. Giants are a sinking ship, they turn it over, you score points and put them behind to start. Instead they get confidence. Just stupid. Maybe if they are playing Peyton Manning and worried about points, but even then its a bad call. Its just brutal.
  20. Such s***ty play calling. And you should always kick the field goal. You get the ball to start the 2nd, you stopped them and will be up points.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 05:41 PM) When is our celebrity president going to get this shutdown ended?? Lot of people are running out of money. I have a friend in defense engineering who said he will probably be furloughed next week. The people who were furloughed from the start are probably close to losing their homes, etc. What a f***ing joke. END THE SHUTDOWN. If you want to end the shutdown start having anyone who voted Republican in the last election write/call their congressman and tell them that they will note vote Republican in the next election unless the shutdown ends in (insert time) here. Its time to send a message. Sometimes your team wins a game, sometimes your team loses a game, but most adults understand that after the game is over the losing team doesnt get to threaten to kill the crowd unless the referees reverse the outcome. We cant give into that type of threat, we just cant.
  22. Newer candidates are generally more beholden to money as they havent had as much time to build donor bases.
  23. QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 10, 2013 -> 03:22 PM) The PPACA. Democrats have basically just assumed that the bill is fine and the GOP is trying to save their own skin. There are plenty of intelligent people on that side who believe otherwise. I believe we should do, what we would want the GOP to do when times and advantages reverse (as they always do). The partisanship has taken us to a point where both sides are unwilling to even look at the others. Maybe, just maybe, there is more validity in the GOP position than we are willing to see. I dont care how valid their position is, this isnt the appropriate way to play the game. If we dont enforce rules (such as votes, presidential elections, etc) then none of this matters. We will be taken hostage by whatever group is most willing to destroy everyone. Ill leave it to my 2nd favorite Republican President to explain: http://www.history.com/videos/reagan-dont-...with-terrorists
