QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) Nice trying to lawyer speak around your original post. At the end of the day you proved my point. People do everything they can to pay less taxes. If you want an honest discussion about it, drop the self-righteous and hypocritical hyperbole. Do you even read the posts, or do you just make up what you want? I DO NOT DO EVERYTHING I CAN TO PAY LESS TAXES I could reduce my tax liability to basically 0. I do not do that. I take the standard deduction, the exact opposite of doing everything I can to pay less taxes. So once again, you proved jack because you do not understand what you are talking about. In fact you just proved my point. Thanks! Now let me make this real clear, I dont care about winning internet arguments. It does nothing for me. I made a statement, you could have easily started a conversation about the subject. You could have easily asked "Hey, why do you think people are avoiding taxes?." But instead you wanted to try win a stupid internet argument.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 11:47 AM) Which according to your tax statement, you aren't willing to do. Actually that is incorrect. I dont claim many things I could claim. Anyways this argument is pointless, if everyone only took the standard deduction it would greatly increase the US tax revenue. So what is your point again? Do you take less than the standard deduction? Do you know anyone who takes less the standard deduction? Because youve failed to show how Ive "tried to avoid paying taxes", when taking a standard deduction is "part of paying taxes." I can hear people moving away from your party with every post you make. You just dont want to talk about solutions, you want to fight about nothing. You havent made a single substantive response in what 10 posts? How is that even possible.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 11:06 AM) I agree fully. Now stop blaming people for doing things that are perfectly legal, which you, yourself, partake in, because you don't like them. This countries biggest problem right now is that everyone thinks they are owed something, but they don't owe anything to anyone else. It is everyone else who owes. This country has set up an unsustainable spending structure. Taxing everyone above yourself isn't going to fix that problem. You dont even read my posts and you dont understand taxes because a standard deduction is legal. I was referring to people who do things that are NOT LEGAL. Furthermore, I think that no one should get any deductions, no standard, no family, nothing. And the bolded in your post was a terrible assumption on your part. My dad has owned a seat at the CME since pre-1980. Im not sure if Im technically 1%, but Im definitely top 5%. So please dont assume you have any idea about me, because its about taxing people like me and my family. I dont think Im owed anything and I think I owe a lot to the US. So dont assume, because you have no clue. Just because you may believe you dont owe anything to the US, doesnt mean that there arent a lot of people out there who do. The only reason I exist is because of the US. The only reason that many of my family members are alive is because of the US. There is a reason why even though they are all top 1-5% they are all Democrats. Its because no matter how much money they have, it can all be taken away by people who think they are "right". As I said, its sad. You dont really want to fix it, you just want to get self-advantage. The problem is no different than fixing any other budget. You make X income, you spend Y dollars. If people arent willing to reduce Y, then you have to increase X. Since there is no way people like me would ever agree to cut welfare and other social programs and since others wont cut defense spending, the only solution is to increase income. Since the US income is basically tax revenue, you have to increase taxes. Do you think I want to pay more money? Of course not. But this isnt about want, this is about need. The US needs the money and some generation is going to have to be the one who says "f*** it, its not fair that we have to pay for the failures of others, but we are going to fix this mess." Sometimes to make things better you have to sacrifice.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 08:01 AM) Which is exactly what you have done to backtrack on what you originally said. Everyone avoids taxes in some manner. You are delusional. Where did I backtrack? You dont want to talk about problems, you just want to yell and scream about how things arent fair. Guess what, life isnt fair. It just disgusts me that people can care so little about this country. You would rather think you won some stupid internet argument, than actually take the time to try and discuss a serious problem. Just sad.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 10:22 PM) I was reading in our local magazine that gays and lesbians make up 1 to 2 percent of the population. That is not a high percentage. This is not a flame ... but where do gays and lesbians find dates/partners?? There ain't many out there. Serious question, not trying to be an ass. Bars, work, online, library, women's bookstores, women's spoken word meetings, book clubs, cat stores. Some of those are jokes but they meet people like anyone else. One of my good friends is a lesbian, she goes through more girls than any guy I know.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) You're the one who lied about avoiding taxes, not me. Are you seriously taking this position? Here is what I said: Call up your accountant and ask him if he thinks someone taking ONLY the standard deduction is "trying to avoid paying taxes", in their opinion. LOL This has to be a joke right? Because I never even said "I dont avoid paying taxes" I said "I DONT TRY" so I never lied. The only liar here is you, alleging that I said something I didnt, go figure, someone who doesnt have an argument resorts to name calling and obscuring issues. Once again, do you have a problem with standard deductions? Do you have anything to say about the current tax laws? Or are you just going to snipe and make up bulls*** arguments that arent even accurate? (edit) Honestly, this is what is wrong with America. Instead of people trying to make productive change and fix broken issues, you have one side that just wants to name call and win semantic arguments. YOU SAID THIS BUT THAT IS ONLY 99.9% TRUE SO YOU'RE A LIAR, WHO CARES ABOUT THE ACTUAL POINT!!!! Come on, thats just a waste of everyone's time.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) I'm just laughing at the statement about not avoiding taxes being full of it. It should be sad laughter because you are showing almost 0 understanding of the problem. Taking legitimate deductions is not avoiding taxes. No CPA, attorney or IRS agent would consider it to be such. Avoiding taxes is when you take steps to lower your tax liability that are technically not allowed under the IRS code. So as I dont do that, Im not avoiding taxes. Ill let you read some IRS stuff, youll notice the word "avoid" isnt used: http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc551.html http://www.irs.gov/publications/p501/index.html http://www.irs.gov/publications/p501/ar02....blink1000221051 Im just not sure you have a basic understanding of the difference between legitimate deductions which are not avoiding taxes and illegitimate ways, that are avoiding taxes. (edit) And to be honest, I just am not sure what you are trying to get at other than a stupid semantic argument about the use of the word "avoid". If you dont feel that the system is broke, great, argue why it isnt broke. But no one I have ever met is arguing or caring about people taking the standard deduction.

In fact, what position are you even taking here? That the tax code shouldnt be fixed? That we should continue to allow millionaires to do whatever they want as long as they can pay me? Because I dont think that is a solution.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 04:54 PM) You set up tax laws for a living? Nope, I get paid to bend laws in the favor of people who can afford my services (ie rich people). QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 04:55 PM) Of course it is different. It allows you to point fingers. lol What? That is like comparing someone buying alcohol to crystal meth. Sure they are both drugs, but one can be done legally, one can not. I really dont believe you are trying to take this inane position. Taking a standard deduction is not avoiding taxes, it is legitimately paying taxes pursuant to the tax code. Everyone is entitled to a standard deduction, so it really doesnt matter at all. If it was up to me, there would be 0 deductions. You make money, you pay taxes, simple and efficient.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 04:47 PM) There are many legal ways to game the system if you are wealthy. As Balta said, that was set up intentionally. I do this for a living, Im pretty familiar. As I said, its ridiculous when millionaires pay a lower percentage than my support staff. (Edit) And of course its intentional, congress is full of rich people. They want to protect their money.
-
How do I avoid taxes? The law states I can take a standard deduction. The tax code does not allow someone to set up a fictitious corp to slush money through. One is avoiding taxes, the other is legitimately claiming deductions. If you can not recognize the difference between the 2, there really is no point in discussing.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 03:24 PM) You don't take any deductions? I take the standard deduction nothing else. But, there is a difference between taking a standard deduction, and setting up fictitious corporations to slush money through as expenses and avoid taxes. There is a huge difference between taking legitimate deductions and working the entire system to reduce your tax rate below what a normal middle class earner makes. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) Are you quite sure about that? Because I'd go so far as to say that's probably...exactly the point. That's why you hire a lobbyist, to make sure that the people writing the tax code leave those loopholes for you to get through, or to make sure that the IRS doesn't have the resources to understand where you're laundering your money. And you have to write the loophole narrow enough/make it difficult enough to cash in, otherwise people will catch on and we proles will take advantage of it. Its actually much simpler than this. Congress is full of rich people. Congress is self serving. Congress passes laws that help themselves.
-
QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 03:01 PM) I would say most smart people do what they can to avoid paying more taxes than they must. I dont try and avoid paying taxes. Certain things are worth more than money, the United States, in my opinion, is one of them. Regardless, the way the system is currently set up allows those with the most to get the largest advantages. It doesnt make any sense. Those with the least need the most help.

She filled out the forms, not Obama you bastard.

Im hoping that when I sit down and actually start an online one I can some how get 2 teams to work and be able to play both offline. If not its really going to be a let down.
-
Most rich people do what they can to avoid taxes. Which is why its so imperative not to give them further tax breaks.

This was just filed on August 14, 2012. 2012-L-009166 Im wondering if deadspin just has guys searching the names of people in court records, because Danks hasnt even filed an appearance yet. He may not have even been served.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 12:38 PM) Outside of Chicago, who had heard of Barack Obama before his convention speech? He gave the keynote speech. If you want to give that girl from Utah the keynote speech, go for it, shell get on tv. In my opinion the Democrats gave him that spot to help make sure he won that seat. You guys spend way to much time worrying about the media, who cares what they think? The real problem for the platform is their stance on most social issues. I think that in the future Republican's are going to be viewed as being on the wrong side of the fence. My thoughts are, no matter how right the South was on other issues, you just couldnt get on that bandwagon because of slavery. Social freedom trumps economy. (edit) I know this is the republican thread so delete this if you want, or I can put it in the democrat thread.

Im pretty sure its going to have the time slot after Dr Who, so I will probably continue to dvr and watch it.
-
I only played for a little but the game is all-right. Passing is more fine tuned. Im really annoyed with the loss of franchise and the fact it doesnt appear that you can play multiple teams offline. Ill know more when I get a chance to really break it in.
