  1. There are many on both sides who are willing to give something up, unfortunately the voice of the Israeli people, Netanyahu, has seemingly been opposed to peace since the beginning. Back in 1993 Rabin was furious with him, and it should always be noted that unlike Rabin, Netanyahu lived a considerable amount of time in the US. If Rabin had not been murdered, I fully believe that there would be a Palestinian state and there would be some semblance of peace between Israel and the more moderate Arab nations. It may be 5 years it may be 100 years, but there will be another Rabin. Because at the end of the day, the treatment of Palestinians is incompatible with being Jewish. Some just choose to gloss over that fact.
  2. I didnt just mean from you, I meant that its more likely a USA fan would be interested in women's soccer because the US is good, just like a Mexican fan would be interested in U-17 because Mexico is good. I dont know a lot of Americans who like to follow sports where American's are losers. As for sloppy play etc, I watched the U-17 tournament, I think they are probably not as polished as the top women's teams and most likely would lose to the top teams. That being said, there are only a handful of women's teams that are good enough to do it, but the US team is one of them. I dont really care everyone can have their opinion on what they watch. And Mila may be hot, but I guarantee she cant play half as good as Morgan.
  3. Id be willing to allow an international body to control and protect Jerusalem. The Jews may have had first claim, but over time things have changed and there is more than just Jewish relics there. As for Israel being run by an international coalition seems unnecessary, there is a compromise that can easily reached, both sides just need to accept a deal that they will consider bad.
  4. Ill tell you one thing that cant be debated, Alex Morgan is easier on the eyes than any boys on the U-17 or U-19 squad. And I think there is a little bit of self interest in this thread, in Men's soccer Mexico is a power, in Women's soccer not so much. Conversely the US is one of the best Women's teams and the Men's team still has a long way to go. Regardless women's soccer is one of the few female sports I can tolerate.
  5. It may or may not be moot. What I was pointing out is that as an American I am uncomfortable with those type of statements (even if they may be favorable to me or my people) and that there are extremists on both sides of the fence. It also is about the elephant in the room, what if one day there are more Arabs in Israel than Jews. Because Israel is a Democracy the potential exists that one day the Jews are the minority. Thus there always is a tension to perserve the Jewish majority. The state of Israel is nothing more than the realization of the Jewish state, it is perceived to be the homeland of the Jews. As for alleviate what the Arab's are doing, Im merely putting it in perspective. The Palestinian's shoot rockets, they wish to wipe us from the face of the Earth, yet in reality they have historically treated us as well or better than anyone else. I just dont think they deserve to be treated this way forever. I understand to start Israel needed to establish itself, but it has done that and more, now is time for Israel to let other people be free. And I believe that under Rabin, Arafat recognized Israel: September 9, 1993 Yitzhak Rabin Prime Minister of Israel Mr. Prime Minister, The signing of the Declaration of Principles marks a new era...I would like to confirm the following PLO commitments: The PLO recognizes the right of the State of Israel to exist in peace and security. The PLO accepts United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The PLO commits itself...to a peaceful resolution of the conflict between the two sides and declares that all outstanding issues relating to permanent status will be resolved through negotiations...the PLO renounces the use of terrorism and other acts of violence and will assume responsibility over all PLO elements and personnel in order to assure their compliance, prevent violations and discipline violators...the PLO affirms that those articles of the Palestinian Covenant which deny Israel's right to exist, and the provisions of the Covenant which are inconsistent with the commitments of this letter are now inoperative and no longer valid. Consequently, the PLO undertakes to submit to the Palestinian National Council for formal approval the necessary changes in regard to the Palestinian Covenant. Sincerely, Yasser Arafat. Chairman: The Palestine Liberation Organization Israel needs to be brave like Rabin, they can not be afraid like Netanyahu. It shall forever be a tragedy that one of the greatest Jewish leaders in history was killed by one of his own. Already have enough enemies.
  6. Flysox, In a few laws it refers to a Jewish state (my first statement was clumsy saying state religion, which it technically doesnt have, but it has odd statements in the law): http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/MFAArchive/1950_...ed%20translatio 7A. A candidates list shall not participate in elections to the Knesset, and a person shall not be a candidate for election to the Knesset, if the goals or actions of the list or the actions of the person, expressly or by implication, include one of the following: (1) negation of the existence of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state; http://www.knesset.gov.il/laws/special/eng/basic3_eng.htm 1. The purpose of this Basic Law is to protect human dignity and liberty, in order to establish in a Basic Law the values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. http://www.knesset.gov.il/laws/special/eng/basic4_eng.htm 2. The purpose of this Basic Law if to protect freedom of occupation, in order to establish in a Basic Law the values of the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state. So while it may protect freedom of religion, it also explicitly states that the State of Israel is a Jewish state. As to what that means, Im not sure. And I was clumsy referring to it as a state religion, I more meant that the State of Israel is a Jewish state, or that is how it perceives itself. As for returning the land taken in the 1967 war, sometimes you have to be brave. I believe that Israel can defend itself with or without those territories. Why do I believe that? Because in 1967 Israel didnt have those territories and was able to defend itself. In fact in every war with the Arab nations, Israel has come out ahead. So I do not fear the Arab world. If anything, historically the Muslims/Arabs have treated the Jews as good as the rest of the world. Far to many people hate Jews to just focus on the Arabs, Im not even sure if you add all murders by all Arab nations together for the history of time, it comes even close to what a handful of European countries have done. Our friend today, could be our enemy tomorrow. Time for the Palestinians to be given a chance to be free,
  7. Alex Morgan is fun to watch for a few reasons.
  8. I think its a strained argument at best. If Perry went to his regular church and got on stage and said a few words, Im not sure that really is the equivalent of state sponsored religion. So as long as there is no connection between Texas and the event, I dont really see why Perry being Governor is relevant.
  9. Im hesitant to post in this thread, but Im going to only remark to the Israel stuff. Its interesting you mention this, because throughout history the only people who have generally liked Jews, were people that needed Jews at that moment. When you are Jewish its different, you have 6000 years of being oppressed, whether it was the Egyptians, the Romans, the Christians, the Muslims, the Nazis, they each took their turn to murder. At a certain point to be Jewish, you must forgive people for the past. That being said, Netanyuh is wrong and he knows he is wrong. He is no Rabin and to that point Rabin was murdered by one of his own. Why? Because Rabin wanted peace with the Muslim world, which not every Israeli agrees with. So to believe that the Israeli's would just be "fine" if the Palestinians stopped attacking them, is just not true. Some Israeli's will never be fine until the Temple can be built. The problem is that in order to rebuild the temple you would have to tear down one of the top 3 most holy sites in the Muslim world. Others will never be fine if Israel gives up the West Bank or Gaza. Some will never be fine if they give up Golan Heights. And some of them would never consider a country where the state religion wasnt Judaism. I just am not sure there can ever be an answer.
  10. I read the whole article and couldnt find a mention of lawsuit (federal or otherwise). I read that people were critical of his decision and I believe that they, like Perry, are free to express their opinions.
  11. Or option D for people like me, cancel getting movies in the mail only get streaming save $2. I really think they should have had an option for $9.99 where its streaming and like 3-4 movies per month in the mail. I just think if they raised prices $2 this year and continually raised them gradually theyd have had a lot less people angry.
  12. I understand I just think the bigger share of the market Netflix had before their contracts expire, the easier it would be for them to defray any potential increase in the contracts. If I have 10mil subscribers and have to pay $100mil more that is $10 per subscriber. If I have 100mil subscribers and have to pay $100mil more that is $1 per. I just think its a gamble to so drastically raise the price, without giving any more service and without making the promise that all dvd's will be streaming. That is my problem, I dont really want dvd's just not everything is streamed, so every once in a while I need to get a disk.
  13. Yeah but isnt it foolish? If Netflix could monopolize the market and have given Blockbuster etc the kill blow, they could have renegotiated better. If Blockbuster was smart, they drop their price to $9.99. Netflix is month to month, I can cancel any time. I also think its foolish to increase so dramatically. If they had gone from $9.99 to $11.99 I probably dont blink, and then a year later add another $2. Its just a shock to see such a jump, with absolutely no middle ground (ie a plan where I get unlimited downloads and 1 or 2 movies a month for $9.99)
  14. The price of 1 dvd + unlimited downloads is going to $15.98 per month from $9.99. The new options are $7.99 for either unlimited streaming or unlimited DVDs.
  15. So Netflix is drastically raising their prices.
  16. If I was Jeter I probably would have given the guy some money (Im thinking 100k is about right). The ball would be priceless to me and if that guy was cool enough to offer it for free, Id definitely want to reward him.
  17. Glad Cano won, he deserved it and cool that his dad was the pitcher.
  18. Theyd be smarter to start writing a tv show starring the 2 of them, because the NBA season is far away.
  19. Rock, To further explain on the injury part. I have clients who want to have waivers for their pool, trampoline etc. I always have to tell them, that if a kid dies in their pool, I dont care how many waivers they have, they are going to get sued and there is going to be a risk that they are found liable. If the injury is severe enough people arent just going to walk away. Had this lady only suffered minor burns, my guess is that the case doesnt exist. But she suffered severe burns and was in the hospital for 8 days. McDonalds offered her $800. It was just stupid on their part.
  20. And the jury found McDonalds warning was neither large enough nor sufficient, seems like they changed their policy based on the ruling... As for your lawsuit getting thrown out, it would very well depend on the facts. You cant just say your theoretical case that doesnt exist would be a winner or loser, it depends on the specific facts and circumstances. (edit) Because there may be a huge difference between 170 degrees and 190 degrees. Im not a scientist, and the reason why most people dont sue is because most people who spill coffee on themselves dont suffer 3rd degree burns? Not much of a lawsuit if there wasnt a significant injury.
  21. Yep McDonalds case is actually one of the better ruled cases. McDonalds punitive damage for knowingly serving coffee that was to hot was the amount of money McDonalds made on selling coffee in 1 day. (Im pretty sure thats how they got the amount). McDonalds should have settled for her medical bills when they were given the chance, but instead they wanted to be greedy and got hammered. Its a pretty easy negligence case, McDonalds knowingly served coffee that was to hot, they had a duty to serve it at a safe standard, it was reasonably forseeable that someone would spill coffee on themselves as a result of serving the coffee to hot, the Plaintiff suffered damages. (edit) I dont care if the optimal temperature of coffee is the sun, you dont give something that hot to a customer, its just common sense.
  22. As I told Zoom if he can get it off the ground Ill take Wisconsin.
  23. Yeah I misread thought it was about Miracle On Ice as its when the US won, not a game where the US lost. So I would say this game was just as good as the Canada- USA gold medal game.
  24. I predict a hit for Konerko in the All Star game.
  25. I wasnt alive for the Miracle On Ice so I cant really compare. But this was a pretty damn fine game, after Marta scores in overtime it really seemed like the game would end with a cruel result. I think the US played 10 on 11 for 60 minutes, it just was impressive.
