I dont think you can say that this gambit will definitely play out for the owners. At the end of the day public opinion only means so much. If I know that another side wants a certain deal, that puts me in a better negotiating position. Could this be a ploy, who knows, Im just tired of the nonsense, and I guess I just dont think its as close as people are making it. Id love to be wrong, but it just seems odd how this is progressing.

I agree thats what the owners are doing, I just dont know if its the best move. It really depends on what you want, do you want the deal done or do you want public opinion. Because I think blind votes gets the deal done.
-
I cant believe the owners revealed the outcome of their vote when the players havent even voted yet. If I was part of this, both sides vote at the same time, both sides reveal the outcome at the same time. No way do I let my clients position be known so the other side can come back and go "Well if we could get just 1% more wed have a deal." Not so sure that I like how the players are going about this.

White Sox as a franchise and the 2011 dilemma
Soxbadger replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How do we know that? Do you have 1 example of a team DLing a non-injured player against the players wishes? Because Id love to see your evidence. -

White Sox as a franchise and the 2011 dilemma
Soxbadger replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You cant dl a non injured player unless they are in agreement, so that is a complete non-issue at this point. Im not even sure why people are upset with KW, the guy swings and misses, but he hits some home runs too. Im pretty confident that if KW had a real manager wed have a few more playoff appearances. Unfortunately we have a manager who cares more about his ego than winning games. -
White Sox as a franchise and the 2011 dilemma
Soxbadger replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
A coach can bench a player, Ozzie has benched plenty of KW players for other guys. I think Ozzie is playing Dunn in the 4/5 because he wants to stick it to KW for getting Dunn in the first place. -
I am hoping its based on reports that Adam Dunn has been assaulting Sox fans with his horrific offense.

Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I dont know, youd have to ask the radio station who is allegedly paying him to be on air. If its such a big deal, they could consider him in breach of the contract and potentially terminate it. Last I checked his primary employment is with the White Sox as a pitching coach, not as an on air radio personality nor as media relations. If he is such a douche, the radio station should cancel the segment. The thing is, the radio wants this type of controversy. If Cooper answered vanilla, there would be no radio show. Sensationalism sells. And if Cooper was getting pad to do a Q&A with Soxtalk im sure there would be a rider attached that governed what questions could be asked, etc. Im sure there would be guidelines for how the questions were to be asked, and what Coopers rights were. Lets stop pretending that we actually know the details of Cooper's engagement with the radio station, because we simply dont. For all we know it explicitly is in the contract that he can terminate the interview at any time if he chooses. -
Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Why is Cooper working with Viciedo or even following him? I guess thats what Im not understanding here, why does anyone think Cooper has an opinion on Viciedo? I doubt hes watching minor league film of the guy, I doubt that he has "worked" with him, so what circumstances does Cooper know about him? Do you think that Walker would be a good guy to ask about pitching prospects? As I said before, its an asinine question and it received the type of response youd expect to get. The announcers who asked the question knew it and Cooper knew it. Sure Cooper could have given some sort of canned response, but to me thats more annoying. Cooper hanging up told you all you need to know, without him saying the words. -
Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Because I dont hold people to higher standards than I think they are capable of. Cooper clearly can have a temper, that is his personality. If you are going to hire him as an on air radio personality, his temper is part of the package. Could Cooper answered better? Of course, but hes a human. And quite frankly if I was the pitching coach of the Sox, Id be pissed too. And if someone asked me a stupid question about the offense, theyd be lucky if I just hung up, instead of making them look stupid and then asking if they have any other stupid questions. -

I understand your point, I just disagree. What do you want me to say: Oh you have such a great point, Cooper is an idiot for getting mad over a question that he should have truthfully and fully answered. Or is it, Cooper should have been more polite in not answering the question. Because if its the latter, I really dont care how he acts. If the radio station doesnt like it, they can fire him, but my guess is the contract is far more complicated than that. -

No a stupid move would have been answering the question and having 10+ pages on "Coop thinks Viciedo should be called up". All this movie did was create some "drama" over nothing. -
Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question
Soxbadger replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If he is so bad, why does the radio station pay him? If he is in breach by hanging up and being a dick, why dont they fire him? The answer to those questions is, more people listen to a radio show when there is conflict, than when everyone is talking about rainbows and butterflies. The radio hosts asked Don Cooper a stupid question, I dont care how other people in different jobs may answer, most of you dont get interviewed on radio and have every word you say on record. The reason they asked the question was to hopefully trip him up. They werent asking the question hoping Cooper gave a vanilla answer or said "Im the pitching coach", they were hoping hed go on a tirade about how his staff is dynamite and Ozzie/Kw are screwing things up over a stupid fight on Viciedo. Cooper realizes "its a trap" goes off and hangs up. Not sure how this is shocking. -

If you guys really think that the pitching coach is going to come out and say that the either the Manager or GM are screwing up because they are not adding Viciedo, thats ridiculous. He is employed by the White Sox, arguably KW and Ozzie are his superiors. Last I checked Cooper has no decision making in terms of hitting personnel. Might as well ask Sod Father if he thinks Viciedo should be called up. -

And they did get an answer from the hothead coach, they were just hoping to trip Cooper into saying something. If I was Cooper Id be pissed too. -

7-20: Sox (47-50) vs. Royals (39-58); 7:10; CSN

How is this on Sale? If Aj stops the ball on the first batter there are 2 outs and a man on 1b. -
Outside of spects like Strasberg, there really arent many players who would be "league changing stunners". And I think its hilarious people keep running with this "Viciedo is going to be traded for a reliever"

People abuse the system, anyone who would argue otherwise is either naive or lying to themselves. I would absolutely be fine with more oversight to ensure that those who truly are in need receive aid. I just dont believe that you should punish the whole for the actions of the few.

Then go ahead and laugh, and take part in 4 pages of threads speculating on ridiculous rumors that make no sense. I mean everyone has their own way of enjoying baseball. The Sox team is flawed in terms of offense, but I think they have the best pitching staff. Im not just going to throw away a season less than 5 games back in a weak division. Im not going to just assume Cleveland will beat them or any of the other stuff. It may happen, but until then Ill believe that the Sox have a chance. In reality the Sox could be winning more games with some simple fixes, its just a question of whether the GM/Manager are submarining the team at this point. Because some one has to be trying to lose here.
