  1. I think Cheat is trying to get at the fact that Harris only had 17 less runs in 240 ab's because he had a higher OBP, which meant he was on base more times to be knocked in. If Pods does not drastically improve his obp, ba, there is a good chance that Harris in a full season could outproduce him in almost every category except for sb and hr. SB
  2. Id love Cintron at this point, but I just do not think he is a reasonable goal. We will have to pay an arm and a leg for a guy that is going to be a back up / super sub. Unless a team comes along willing to give away a utility fielder, the prices will just be to high for what plans we have for them. SB
  3. Uribe hasnt had the same amount of negative press that Harris has. Its peculiar the way the Sox treat their under contract players, usually teams talk up players in the press, but the Sox seem to think that talking bad about their young players will make them better. Last year Uribe was caught stealing more times than he successfully stole. We just have to pray that Uribe's last year was real improvement, not a statistical anomaly. Because his previous stats are far worse than Harris. 32bb /90ks generally is not a good trend, sadly its an improvement over his first year of 34/120. Also I think that alot of people are in the, "If we dont say bad things than they wont be true." Uribe is as big of a question mark as Harris imo. SB
  4. He was tentative last year. This year spring training steals on first attempt. Then b****ed at by same Sox fans for being aggressive. Either you complain about him being tentative, or you complain about him being aggressive. And unlike you, I blame the MANAGER for the fact he did not get Harris to steal more bases. Ozzie can force Harris to steal whenever he wants. And sorry, the whole Harris has the green light is a bulls*** cop out by Guillen. Harris was pretty much a rookie last year, unlike a Pods he cant get caught stealing to many bases because he will be benched. Therefore he is more tentative because otherwise people will complain when hes caught stealing. Rickey Henderson only had 33 sb's his first year, Lou Brock only stole 16 his first and 24 his second. But these guys suck, they are way to tentative. I dont know why people think that when a player gets to the MLB, they will instantly be the best at everything. It takes time to develop techniques, to get adjusted to the pitchers and catchers, to get their timing down. SB
  5. For not being able to steal he sure led the Sox in that category not even playing full time. ::Shrugs:: So when Pods get cs 1 time we are going to say he cant steal? There are no battle lines either, there are some fans who can see that while Harris may not be the best 2b in the league, that he is very cheap, and has shown that he will hit around .270, has speed, great defensively, and hustles does the right thing on the field. There are other fans who beleive that Iguchi having played 0 real games will come in and dominate, therefore leaving no need for Harris. In my opinion, until Iguchi does something to make Harris expendable, Harris can not be traded unless we are getting back some one who can play SS/2b at a higher level than Harris. SB
  6. Oh I agree that Guillen tactical managing skills need a lot of improvement. Just is frustrating to see so many people acting like these 2 games are the end all of the season. SB
  7. I would think they are bunting in non-bunt situations for practice. That way when the games actually count, they will be able to get the bunt down, something that we have failed at for years now. Spring training records mean absolutely nothing, therefore regardless of the score you should keep your players practicing what they will need to be able to do in the regular season. Playing to win spring season games may give your fan base a smile, but its better that they practice and work on what needs to be done and lose every game, imo atleast. SB
  8. Would like to say thanks for the pbp as well. It means a lot to those of us who are stuck at school or work and who can read but can not listen. SB
  9. Yeah Harris is so bad. 2 ab's, advanced the runner to 3rd, walked. He was overly aggressive and was caught. What has Iguchi done so far? And why are people not jumping off the bridge about his 'lack of production'. Day 2 of spring training, baseball is a marathon not a sprint. SB
  10. Brewers would want Harris to be what Pods was. Unless we are filling an absolute need, I would hate to see Harris traded for so little. Itd be one thing if we were getting a below average guy who can play 3b, SS, 2b, its quite another to be getting a player who does not do much for us. SB
  11. The short answer is, No they do not. Advertisements are generally an offer to deal, not an "offer" in the sense of contract law. There are some ways around it, but a simple ad like this generally is not considered a binding offer, which you would need to get specific performance on the contract. SB
  12. Court Ruling On Padilla Lastest court ruling says that they must release him in 30 days or formally charge him. The case will be appealed but with Rehnquist probably unable to be at the SC, it should be interesting to see how the battle lines are drawn, and perhaps be a precursor to who will be the next Chief Justice. SB
  13. The distinctions that are being drawn in this thread are some what inconsistent with the actual Geneva convention. There are: 1) Lawful combatants 2) Unlawful combatants. Combatant Status Iraqi's caught during the attack on Iraq, are lawful combatants and are therefore protected by the Geneva convention. They were authroized by Saddam, wore uniforms, etc. The Geneva conventions protections do not end because the government was overthrown, had the Geneva convention been adopted before World War II this interpretation would have meany that after the Nazi's took over France, French combatants would no longer have been protected by the Geneva convention because they were not part of a "recognized army". A recognized army means at the time of capture, not after time when their government falls apart. Iraqi's caught after the fall of Saddam, will be considered unlawful combatants as they are no longer part of a government force when that government falls. But you can not reclassify an already captured combatant. Afghani's caught during the Afghanistan war, who were under the direction of the Taliban, should also have Geneva convention protection, as like the Iraqi's at the time of the capture they were fighting for a government army. Those Afghani's caught after the fall of the Taliban, will be considered unlawful combatants. The bigger problem here is: Government tort immunity. SB
  14. Korean born pitcher Sang-Ho Moon had a brief tryout for the Sox on Tuesday, throwing around 95 miles per hour, sporting a fastball, splitter and a slider. No decision was made Anyone know anything about this guy? Tried to search him in google and hit a blank, but interesting to see the Sox are trying to get another country involved. hehe SB

    New Rap War?

On another board I post at I was asked to put more spaces in my posts because it was to hard to read long paragraphs. ::shrugs:: After a few years it just became the way I write on the internet because its easier for people to read. If you like though I will not hit enter and just post longer paragraphs so that there will be a greater chance that my words will be misread and my ideas missed. Its no skin off my teeth. SB

Hammerhead, Good you get my point. If you take 1 track, or a few songs and then use that to describe the artist as a whole, you can pretty much make whatever point you want. Now would I say the whole Beatles collection versus 50 would be a good comparison? Of course not, but you could make the same arguments about the Beatles as you could about 50. They wrote songs to sell them to start, and then they began to write songs for themselves later on. You cant start off at the White Album and Abbey Road, and then move back towards mainstream. Very rarely do artists start off non-mainstream, so 50 made a mainstream album cause otherwise he would of probably sold thousands compared to millions. The point of his industry is to sell records, in that regard he did a pretty good job. SB

LOVE, LOVE ME DO YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU I´LL ALWAYS BE TRUE SO PLEASE,LOVE ME DO OH,LOVE ME DO LOVE, LOVE ME DO YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU I´LL ALWAYS BE TRUE SO PLEASE,LOVE ME DO OH,LOVE ME DO SOMEONE TO LOVE SOMEBODY NEW SOMEONE TO LOVE SOMEONE LIKE YOU LOVE, LOVE ME DO YOU KNOW I LOVE YOU I´LL ALWAYS BE TRUE SO PLEASE,LOVE ME DO OH,LOVE ME DO Those lyrics rock 50, I can see why you would call the first Beatles album a masterpiece. ::shrugs:: Its personal preference, what I find to be trailblazing, you seem to think is crap. Also generally I like songs with good beats, and the lyrics are secondary. I dont think 50 is even one of the top 10 writers today, probably I could name 50 depending on if we are counting "alive" or whether or not they produce new albums. I just dont see how "Love me Do" is any more or less than "In Da Club". They are entertainers and their goal is entertainment, not to write essays and books. (EDIT) Did I say 50 was better than Rakim? Itd be like saying Shyne is better than Biggie, or Puff Daddy could take KRS One. SB

    New Rap War?

Lowercase, 50 has made exactly 1 album, some of it is just to sell records, some of it is high quality. The same can be said about Jay-Z "I know they gone criticize the hook on this song" straight from Money, Cash, Hoes. Also, a band called the Beatles, first album was pretty vanilla. Love love me do, etc and so on. As opposed to these 50 cent lyrics which show talent: Comin up I was confused my momma kissin a girl Confusion occurs comin up in the cold world Daddy ain't around probably out commitin felonies My favorite rapper used to sing ch-check out my melody I wanna live good, so should I sell dope for a fo-finger ring Money and them gold ropes Santa told me if I pass could get a sheep skin coat If I can move a few packs and get the hat, now that'd be dope Tossed and turned in my sleep at night Woke up the next morning n****s done stole my bike Different day same s***, ain't nothing good in the hood I'd run away from this b**** and never come back if I could ... Notice how this song is not in the gangster mentality. It takes on real problems of the hood. 1) His father was not around (out committing felonies) showing the importance of a male role model for young children, even 50 cent. 2) He was living in poverty and had to make his own money to get things he wanted. Arguably selling drugs is a bad thing, but it shows that he had to make his own way, and that no one was going to give him anything. 3) Aint nothing good in the hood. Deglamorizes the hood mentality, showing that while rappers may sing about it, if he had his choice he would not live there. But then again, you probably have heard; In the Club, Candy Shop, and the rest of the crap they play on the radio. (EDIT) Hammerhead, this is an implied statement that the poster could write better lyrics than 50 cent. Since an 8 year old with downs could not post on this board or even write a coherent statement, it is saying that everyone on this board can write better lyrics than 50. It is that statement that I responded to. As for its hyperbolic character, perhaps it was, perhaps it was not. I stand by my statement that those who say they can rap better than 50 are mistaken, and it is not as easy as they claim. To those who just have an opinion that 50 sucks, thats fine. Everyone is entiteld to their opinion, thats not the point Im trying to make. The point is, its very easy to say some one has no talent and that you can do better, but it is much harder to actually go out there and do it. SB

    New Rap War?

For all the talk, Ive yet to see 1 person in this thread come up with even 8 lines. The candy shop song, its classic A, A, A, B format. Im sure you are well aware of this because you are so versed in writing formats, but the fact of the matter is rap imitates famous poets. You say they have no talent, well Biggie and Jay-Z dont even write lyrics, they do the song allegedly in 1 take. Ie, they hear the song, get the ideas into their head, and then go out and perform it. So far Ive seen a hell of a lot of talk, and absolutely no substance. This board is not a rap studio, so if you truely have great lyrics why do you not post them here? In fact you could be a ghost writer, Mad skills ghost writer for the right price I can even make your s*** tighter. Which eventually became. S Carter ghost writer for the right price I can even make your s*** tighter. And Hammerhead, They say they are more talented then 50. It would be like saying, Im better than Billy Koch. Then I respond with: Why arent you in the minors even? And you respond with: Well they would laugh at me if I showed up at a training camp, but I swear Im really really good, I just wont prove it, and will sit behind my computer screen claiming that Im god. If your gonna argue atleast have the decency to make applicable points. Otherwise I can make straw man arguments to. SB

    New Rap War?

Most of these posts are nonsense. He was shot in the face, more specifically the mouth and was hit multiple times. Some times people just do not die from gun shots. Look at Shug, he was shot in the head and was fine, Tupac was shot and was killed. As for being able to write lyrics, I doubt any one on this site can write lyrics even close to 50's or the names mentioned, because if you could you would be selling millions of records. But then again, I bet you can all write Shakespeare in perfect iambic pentameter, etc, because you are all genius. :: shrugs:: So much venom, but I doubt that 50 or any of them would care about a bunch of jealous internet posters. I mean, how many albums have you produced lately? 0 Thats what I thought. lol Hilarious. SB
  22. The problem with Owen Daniels will be, Can he block at the TE position. Its clear that he can get open and make plays down field, but as a converted QB you just do not know if the size will translate. They have him listed as 6'3 220 or so, if he could push that to 240-250 range, hes listed as a junior so I think hes got a year of eligibility to make the transition complete. Should be interesting cause if he can gain a few pounds and be as effective as last year, Id want him on the Bears. SB
  23. Ill post 2 guys from Wisconsin who I think will turn out to be good pro's who probably will get drafted on day 2. 1) Anthony Davis, unfortunately he has been hampered by injuries. But when he is healthy he was the Wisconsin defense. He is a smaller back, but has good strength for his size and very good ability to break tackles. He also has good vision, great agility and speed, and will prove to be a great change of pace back for whatever team that takes him. 2) Scott Starks, he will run a sub 4.4 40, but lacks the height and size that is necessary for 1,2 CB. Should prove to be a valuable dime CB, and very good special teams player. He began to play special teams for Wisconsin this year, and made almost every single big play, and was almost always the first player down field on punt coverage. Also has good intangibles, and has played against larger recievers for his career. Unfortunately time prohibits me from watching as much football as I used to, but I do watch every Wisconsin game and these are 2 guys that could be available day 2 and make an impact on a team. SB
  24. Ill be done with post grad next year. The money goes to the NFL and NCAA. By keeping younger players out of the NFL, there is less risk in every single draft. Look at the NBA, the team has to weigh how an 18 year old compares to a 21 year old, they have to spend money and time researching these players, and there is a much greater risk associated with giving millions to a player with no College experience. The NFL in essence has a farm system, in which they are able to cultivate talent in the NCAA, and then draft it when that talent is ready. Players like Adrian Peterson and M. Williams who would of been first round picks after their first years playing, are stuck in the NCAA where they take on 100% of the risk of playing. If they are injured while in NCAA, they are compensated $0. If they were able to be drafted, they would get a signing bonus which is guaranteed. High School graduation is how your NFL draft eligibility is determined. You become eligible to enter the draft 3 years after your High School class graduated. For example, if I was a whiz kid and graduated High School at 14, per the Collective Bargaining agreement, I would be eligibile for the NFL at 17. How is that a rule based on safety? It clearly is not, it is based on forcing the player to be in the NCAA system for a minimum of 3 years, providing the NFL with more certainty about the player, and a better overall grasp of how the player will translate. If the rule was about safety, there would be a way to be declared medically safe by a Dr. Should 6'4 250 lb who is 22, be considered different than a 6'4 250lb who is 21? With out a medical examination, there is no way to judge who is "truely" safer. The 22 year old could have chronic injury problems, the 21 year old a spotless record. Its purely arbitrary. I dont disagree with you that the 2 injuries should make Grossman's health, perhaps suspect. But I do not think that he is injury prone as of yet. The 2 injuries are at different locations and are completely unrelated. SB
  25. Bighurt, If you would like to compare accolades, Ill give you a go. Im only 23 though, so if you lose to me it would be kind of embarrasing. As for why they keep younger players out of the league, that is due to money, not safety. Larry Fitzgerald was in essence the same place, but for a technicality of going to a prep-school for 1 year in between HS and College, he was allowed to enter the pro's. Also they do not bar based on height, weight, etc, it is based on date of High School graduation. If I was to graduate High School early, I could enter the draft early. Money, not safety. The rest of your argument is based on, 2 injuries over 6 games. You use the small amount of time to justify injury problem. Then you mention KJ, Enis, and Philips (who I thought was dropped not due to injury but because of criminal problems.) Enis and KJ both had knee problems. Notice pluralality on similar area of injuries. Had Grossman injured the same leg, the same finger, the same anything maybe I could tag him with injury prone. But your whole argument relies on 1 acl tear. Lee Evans screwed up his knee in College, missed almost 2 years because of it, came back to the NFL and played fine. Anyways, its clear that I will not convince you. It just is very hard to say that 6 games are indicitive of an entire career, especially when I saw both of the injuries occur, and the knee was completely a product of the playing field. Astro turf has been the cause of many knee injuries. SB
