  1. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 17, 2005 -> 04:36 AM) Good call. Since none of those guys would be vying for an All-Defensive slot, I'd say it would be a good, but not great, and definitely above average, although slightly, defensive team and an extremely horrible offensive one. It would be a killer defensive squad (perhaps Top 5 in the NBA with San Antonio, Detroit, Indiana, and Memphis), not to mention one of the top rebounding teams. We'd have the most defensive depth in the entire league (Duhon, Hinrich, Bell, Nocioni, Ruffin, Chandler, Dalembert, etc). Scoring: 15-17 PPG Potential: Hinrich Gordon Deng 12-14 PPG Potential: Nocioni Dalembert 9-11 PPG Potential: Bell Chandler Harrington 6-8 PPG Potential: Duhon Ruffin Davis Sure, I'd like to have that 22-25 PPG threat. But I don't want to be the New York Knicks, you know? I want a defensive squad that can just wear people out. I want wins by submission, not some bulls*** shoot-outs. That s*** ain't basketball. We keep Curry, and we have a 18-20 PPG threat in the paint. But again, I don't want to be the New York Knicks. I don't want heartless, overpaid goofballs. I want a team of guys who will do absolutely anything that it takes to win. Most teams only have a couple of those guys nowadays...I want like 8 or 9 of them. Now there's a team that I can get behind.
  2. Michael Ruffin really impressed me in the playoffs. Has that guy been poppin' roids, or what? Donny, good role player and excellent teammate that he is, ain't worth the money IMO. Just say no to Kukoc. What I'd like to see: PG Rotation: Duhon/Hinrich/Gordon..gasp SG Rotation: Hinrich/Bell/Gordon SF Rotation: Nocioni/Deng/Ruffin PF Rotation: Chandler/Ruffin/Harrington C Rotation: Dalembert/Davis I just want a defensive squad, a freakshow if you will.
  3. QUOTE(orangekrush88 @ May 14, 2005 -> 06:05 PM) LOL! I had one Cub fan tell me last night that Zambrano is better than Garland, so wrong Umm, sounds like the Cub fan took you to school on that one. You're supposed to bait them, not vice versa.
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 16, 2005 -> 04:03 PM) Hammerhead, Baltimore has more than enough staying power. Chen is pitching like the prospect he was supposed to be(ala Pavano last year), Lopez is good for 15, Cabrera is a hard thrower that will win 15, Bedard will win 15, Ponson around 12. That's good enough with their offense and bullpen to get there. There's a reason why they kicked our ass the past two games. I ain't buying it. They'd get slaughtered in a playoff series with that rotation. So what, they're like the Washington Wizards or some s***. Bruce Chen ala Carl Pavano? Bruce has been on EIGHT (count 'em) eight different teams already. Are you telling me that you're right and everyone else is wrong? Cabrera's a hard thrower, so look for 15 wins? I'll tell you what I'll be looking for. 2004: 150 IP 5.00 ERA 1.56 WHIP 2005: 42 IP 4.93 ERA 1.48 WHIP Rodrigo Lopez and Sidney Ponson are two of the most inconsistent starters in this league. I like their bullpen, though. Crazy offensive teams have average to below average starters who win 13-15 by default. Predicting 15 wins per for 4 different starters (including Chen...OMG) means nothing, actually. It's out there like f***ing Pluto, no question, but they could get wins with the insane amount of run support tha they'll receive. I'll retract my previous statement that Bedard is the only guy who could win 15+. Let's just talk consistency, ERA, WHIP, track record, etc. f*** a win...check out 2004 Ben Sheets and Randy Johnson. That was Brando's downfall as a baseball expert...he put way too much credence in wins. To this day, the best thread I've ever seen on here was Rex Hudler's Cy Young voting system.
  5. QUOTE(Nokona @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:32 AM) It's alright guys, i'll stab John (chi-guy) in the side tommorow. He deserves it. You go to school with this guy? Tell him that he needs to put down the coloring books and learn how to read and write.
  6. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:40 PM) Note see Konerko, Paul Years 2003 & 2004 Yea I agree, and overall his career numbers arent that great so I dont need to see them posted up here either, I just have a hunch...ok i'm an idiot Ponson actually had a successful 2003 season, so you can definitely make an argument for him. He was a high fantasy pick in 2004. But yeah, if I were a GM looking for starting pitching, I'd disregard Ponson with the quickness.
  7. Is it safe to assume that control will never just magically appear in Neal's repertoire? Because this is what we have to go on: 2005: 6 BB per 9 IP 2004: 4.5 BB per 9 IP 2003: 13 BB per 9 IP And I know that his BB/IP ratio in the minors is pretty far from impressive. When you're walking people, you're getting killed. No exceptions.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:27 PM) With the way our offense looks.. neither are we. Good point, although we have a very deep pitching staff. Bedard is the only guy who could crack our rotation.
  9. QUOTE(Chisoxrd5 @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:23 PM) Sir Ponson could easily win 15, even though I know he has overwhelming support on this board. It's hard to support a guy who had a .305 BAA and 5.30 ERA in 2004. That is buster status.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) Yes, but is their offense going to remain this good. Are there any 15 game winners on that staff? The Yankees have won like 6 straight now also, and you know Boston is going to pick it up when they get Schilling, Wells and Miller back into their rotation. Bedard is the only guy who can win 15 to 18 games. Cabrera has long term potential, but right now, he's decent as best. Ponson and Lopez, as we all know, are nothing special. Bruce motherf***ing Chen? It doesn't take a baseball expert to see what's what. That ain't no playoff team. Nowhere near it.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ May 16, 2005 -> 02:04 PM) I don't think they'll have to sneak... the front door is working just fine for them right now. 120+ games to go. With that rotation, I'm expecting 85 wins at the most.
  12. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:57 AM) Two best teams in baseball. Not just the division or leagues, but baseball. My ass. I don't care how good Baltimore's record is right now. That ain't no f***ing playoff team. And even if they do somehow manage to sneak into the playoffs, they have no shot at winning a series. Come on, man.
  13. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 6, 2005 -> 04:40 AM) Just wait until the yankees when 15 out of 18 at some point this year. It is just bound to happen. Since qwerty said this on May 6, they have won 8 in a row. Now, look at all of the responses to what he said. Amazing, simply amazing.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 15, 2005 -> 03:25 PM) Ever hear of John Smoltz? In my best Chapelle voice: Gotcha, b****! IIRC, Gagne had some injury issues as a starter as well.
  15. That's some William Wallace type accuracy, right there.
  16. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 13, 2005 -> 03:14 PM) Terrible signing. Really? Because nobody is worse than Paul Edinger. We needed to do something, anything.
  17. DJ is painful to listen to, y'all. I'm not trash-talking, I'm just saying. I have no clue what he's talking about half the time.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 13, 2005 -> 05:23 AM) Urbandictionary eh? aka Comedy Central. That site is hilarious.
  19. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2005 -> 05:24 AM) Rent Blood In, Blood Out and American Me. Cinematic masterpieces. I have Bound By Honor: Blood In, Blood Out on DVD, although I forgot to mention it in the DVD thread that we had in the SLAP board. I love that movie. American Me is too depressing, albeit a good flick.
  20. QUOTE(knightni @ May 13, 2005 -> 05:21 AM) I think it is homes - short for homeboy. homes Derived from the French word "homme", meaning man. Sames as homes, homie, and holmes French: un brave homme English translation: A good (decent) man Urban usage: Wass'up homes?
  21. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2005 -> 05:13 AM) holmes? You're weird... Holmes Street slang. What you would call a good friend, a stranger, or even mockery against an adversary. Was`sup, holmes. You got a problem with it, holmes?
  22. QUOTE(knightni @ May 13, 2005 -> 04:50 AM) Thus signifying the impending finish to the Paul Edinger Era. No more Jose Valentin, no more Paul Edinger, and no more Eddy Curry. Grant me this one wish, gawd. Remember when I asked for that 1985 Topps Baseball card set and I never got that s***? You owe me big time, holmes.
  23. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2005 -> 04:41 AM) I just have a lot of trouble handing out awards to a player who gets injured that much. He's injury-prone, and it makes him seem weak to me. Missing games hurts your team. I like kirilenko (Will he turn out to be injury-prone?) more than camby... Kirilenko is so devastating on D that it's hard to put into words. He's the only dominant perimiter defender that I know of in the current NBA that can also play PF. Dude is just an absolute freak.
  24. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2005 -> 04:30 AM) Will we ever see camby put together a healthy season? I don't know, but the guy is a freaking beast. This is definitely long overdue (he never made 1st or 2nd team defense before).
  25. I'm just heated that Iggy wasn't on the 1st or 2nd team. Otherwise, most of my guys are there. Duncan, Garnett, Big Ben, Bowen, Camby, Prince, and Kirilenko. :salivating
