  1. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 12:24 AM) There was a line-up of chandler, pike, pargo, griffin, and duhon out there how the f*** is that possible? Skiles is a mad scientist if I've ever seen one.
  2. Damn, we only have 3 assists as a team with 6 minutes left in the 2nd quarter. Gordon has none in 10 minutes.
  3. Wade 9-10 in free throws through 1/3 of the game.
  4. The Heat are shooting 69% from the field so far. We're shooting 34%.
  5. Tyson has 4 offensive rebounds already with 9 minutes to go in the 2nd Quarter. He's also leading the team in scoring so far with 8 points.
  6. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 08:35 PM) Also, for people b****ing about a lack of multisport athletes: Julius Peppers. As well as being sick in the NFL, he would have been a 1st rounder in the NBA for sure. He's 6'6, and he weighs in at 285 pounds, but he's one hell of an athlete. With good post moves being a given, if he was 3 inches taller and weighed a good 25 to 30 pounds less, he'd probably be just another freak out of the PF slot in the NBA.
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) As already said, Charlie Ward was one when New York made the finals. I also believe Aaron McKie was a starter for Philly when they made the finals, if he wasn't, he was the 6th man. And had the Jazz made the finals again, Marshall would've been their starter, but they didn't make it. You're right, there are exceptions. Let me rephrase. How many guys have been detrimental to teams that have reached the finals (Jason Kidd), and how many would be detrimental if they were on deep teams (Grant Hill)? Guys like Paxson and Longley have started on championship teams, but that doesn't mean that they were major contributors. McKie was the 6th man on the 2000 Half Ratliff/Half Dikembe 76ers.
  8. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 07:30 PM) I think these guys have had solid to great NBA careers. MIL Glenn Robinson Purdue very solid 2 DAL Jason Kidd California great 3 DET Grant Hill Duke results pending... 4 MIN Donyell Marshall Connecticut very solid 5 WA1 Juwan Howard Michigan very solid 7 LAC Lamond Murray California solid 8 SAC Brian Grant Xavier (OH) solid 10 LAL Eddie Jones Temple very solid 13 DEN Jalen Rose Michigan very solid 15 IND Eric Piatkowski Nebraska decent 17 POR Aaron McKie Temple very solid 23 PHO Wesley Person Auburn solid 26 NYK Charlie Ward Florida State decent Pretty sad only 12 players made any contributions to NBA squads, and the 2nd round was even worse. Definitely not many superstars in the class, but there are some solid double digit scoring players in the class. I think that the only guys you can call great are Kidd and Hill. IMO, Donny, Jalen, Big Dog, Eddie Jones, and McKie are 6th men on a championship team.
  9. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 07:20 PM) Wasn't ward a starter in the Finals? Oh yeah, when the 8th seed Knicks played the Rockets. Good call. Ward was also a very good defensive PG in his prime (nowadays he's merely good).
  10. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) Don't forget Chad Hutchinson! That's right, can't forget about Chad. And Josh Booty, of course.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 07:07 PM) Why is pike not in bold? Charlie ward is one of the best athletes in basketball history in my opinion. Heisman trophy winning-qb who led the seminoles to the 1993 national title. Also won the sullivan and maxwell awards, and was named college football player of the year by the sporting news, along with being mvp at the orange bowl. Drafted by two mlb teams (the yankees and brewers) in 1993 and 1994, after not playing any baseball in college. Drafted in the first-round of the 94 nba entry draft by the knicks. Yinka f***ing dare is one of the funniest players. What a bust he was. I know that he was a center but come on, four assists in his nba career which lasted 110 games or 1002 minutes. Rose is a cancer and robinson is one for sure. How is good for laughs like you said and while i like marshall he has not lived up to expectations. Not even close. Charlie Ward has always been a good defensive PG. I like him off the bench, kinda like Lindsey Hunter. You used to have guys like Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders, DJ Dozier, Charlie Ward, etc. Nowadays, we have Joe Borchard and Drew Henson. I know that Ricky Williams was a high pick for the Philadelphia Phillies or whatever. There's another guy with unreal athletic skills.
  12. The 1994 Draft was horrendous....easily one of the worst ever. Outside of Jason Kidd and Brian Grant, you just can't find any defense. Put it this way. How many players from this draft have appeared in the finals as starters, or are capable of starting for a championship squad? Players (in their prime) who could start on a championship squad marked in bold: Round 1 1 MIL Glenn Robinson Purdue 2 DAL Jason Kidd California 3 DET Grant Hill Duke 4 MIN Donyell Marshall Connecticut 5 WA1 Juwan Howard Michigan 6 PHI Sharone Wright Clemson 7 LAC Lamond Murray California 8 SAC Brian Grant Xavier (OH) 9 BOS Eric Montross North Carolina 10 LAL Eddie Jones Temple 11 SEA Carlos Rogers Tennessee State 12 MIA Khalid Reeves Arizona 13 DEN Jalen Rose Michigan 14 NJN Yinka Dare George Washington 15 IND Eric Piatkowski Nebraska 16 GSW Clifford Rozier Louisville 17 POR Aaron McKie Temple 18 MIL Eric Mobley Pittsburgh 19 DAL Tony Dumas Missouri-Kansas City 20 PHI B.J Tyler Texas 21 CHI Dickey Simpkins Providence 22 SAS Bill Curley Boston College 23 PHO Wesley Person Auburn 24 NYK Monty Williams Notre Dame 25 LAC Greg Minor Louisville 26 NYK Charlie Ward Florida State 27 ORL Brooks Thompson Oklahoma State Glenn Robinson and Juwan Howard are good for laughs, and not much else. Drafting those players is a good way to get stuck in suck mode.
  13. QUOTE(TLAK @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:17 PM) This is anal, but it totals 2427-2433. Total games is right but some team must be pretty bad for the majors to be 6 under in total. Call me an arse with a parse. Flip Florida with the Braves, and the grubs with Pittsburgh, I agree with the others. Good point. Put St. Louis down for 95-67 instead of 92-70. I think that the Braves will finish a few games ahead of the Marlins on the strength of their bullpen.

  15. Not all sarcastic comments have to be written in green, y'all.
  16. Yep, I can not believe that. Two different players in one week. Swift's situation seems much more serious, though. That really sucks for Memphis, because their depth (on both defense and offense) is just phenomenal. Talk about a sleeper team. When fully healthy, I honestly believe that they can take out teams like the Mavericks, Rockets, Kings, etc in a 7 game series.
  17. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) What times are those, if you don't mind me asking? (Not trying to rile you up or anything.) Deng was a good pick and a solid contributor this season, and I like him over iguo. The knock on him seems to be that he has no upside, but who knows for sure...iguodala has A LOT to prove on the offensive side of the ball. I won't give him much praise until he can average double digits. You know what? Iguodala is a candidate for 1st Team All-NBA defender at SF this season. He's also a good assist man. He recently had a triple double (10/10/10). He might not be much of a scorer for you in the long run because he has an inconsistent shot, but then again, people were saying the same thing about Tayshaun, and he's shot over 50% from the field in 37 games this year, so I dunno. Iggy has the make-up of a guy who can force the issue down low at times & creates high percentage shots like Artest or someone like that. He could also score on the run, off of steals. He's a good ball-handler. He's got a lot of offensive upside once you get past his shooting woes. Why do you think people were comparing him to Pippen? And as far as Paxson goes, the positives outweigh the negatives. I'll just leave it at that.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 01:13 AM) Guess no one realizes how good deng is defensively at this point. I'd say that he's been competent at the very least. He has what it takes to be an above average defensive small forward, but (and I know you know) Iggy is a rare breed.
  19. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:10 AM) Deng: turns 20 in 2 weeks, 27.3 mpg, 11.7 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.2 apg, .79 spg Igoudala: 21 years old, 32.4 mpg, 8.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3 apg, 1.7 spg Deng is younger, averages more points per game, and more rebounds per minute. While Igoudala has a slight advantage in assists and steals, Deng is a better player in my mind. It's close and too early to tell at this point in time. Either way what does he have to do with Deng being good or not? Iguodala is a defensive freak on the perimeter with excellent assist potential in the long run. He's not a scoring option. Deng is just way too raw right now. I like his quickness and his wingspan, but in the end, he may never do any one thing particularly well, as opposed to Iggy. If it were me, I'd have taken Iguodala ahead of Deng without even blinking. There are times when I think that Paxson is a straight up numbnuts, but bringing in Skiles was brilliant.
  20. QUOTE(Yoda @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Too bad for Pedro. He could have won his first game in just his first performance of the season. For him, it is just going to seem like forever staying with the Mets. Same for Beltran. They'd be in business if they had made the bullpen a higher priority this offseason. Maybe a couple guys will step up, or perhaps they'll acquire a closer at the deadline and move Looper to set-up man. Nobody is gonna catch the Braves in that division, but if they shore up their bullpen situation by the end of July, I can see the Mets challenging the Marlins, Cubs, Astros, etc for the Wild Card come September. That's a big IF, but they have some pieces in place.
  21. QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 09:09 PM) He reminds me of an ogre. Am i the only that thinks that? Definitely. He's a big lumberjack-looking motherf***er.
  22. Pedro ain't gonna get the victory today because of Adam Dunn. He has 2 HR and 5 RBI. As a team, the Reds now have 7 hits altogether (only 3 allowed by Pedro). Dunn's a monster. No roids.
  23. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) I'm not saying this start vindicates me but I always thought the rumors of his demise were greatly exaggerated. Look at his Ws start against the Cards for one example that he still can go. He may not hit 97 but he didnt forget how to pitch either Well, his ERA jumped from 2.20 in 2003 to 3.90 in 2004, so the pessimism is understandable. That would definitely qualify as a negative trend. And when you follow tends in this league, you're usually correct waay more often than not. Also, the injury rumors, although it seems like damn near every ace-caliber pitcher has question marks outside of a select few (mostly younger guys, naturally). However, his 2004 WHIP of 1.17 (12th in the majors) and his move to Shea (tough environment for hitters) is what had me salivating when he was available at #23 overall in my draft.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) Charlotte > Kansas City Mike Sweeney went 0-4, though. Plus, DeJesus and Gotay could put up impressive numbers this year. Berroa tore it up this spring after a sophomore slump. They are a really bad offense all things considered, but they're still better than Charlotte. But yeah, if someone were to make an argument that they have the worst offense in the majors, I wouldn't object.
  25. Jeremy Bonderman was masterful today against the Royals. 7 IP 1.29 ERA 1.14 WHIP 7 Strikeouts Props to those who were willing to take a chance on him in fantasy leagues. Everyone has hyped him up like none other, although I wasn't buying it.
