QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 07:52 PM) Wow that makes me happy that I traded him off of my fantasy team. Interesting thread in the fantasy section: Pedro Martinez for Hank Blalock Still though, it's only one start. And who knows, Hank Blalock might go for 40/120 this year.

Yes, yes, yes I've been going back and forth between the Sox and the Mets/Reds game, and Pedro's change-up should be illegal.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 06:33 PM) I came back to see the pic of that brunette cheerleader, and this is what I find? duhon>Hinrich pietrus>Hinrich Duhon's the better PG (it's pretty much unanimous for those who know their basketball), and Pietrus is a Top 10 Perimeter Defender in this league. Still though, Kirk is valuable because he does the little things so well. I can't rip on him because he works his ass off, and he's obviously Skiles favorite player on the team. While he doesn't really fit in at either backcourt slot, I still want him on my team. If your philosophies are not on point, you're gonna leave yourself open to criticism more often than not. For instance, defense rules all, and I know for a fact that you don't think along those lines. I can understand why casual fans would only be interested in offense, but you seem to invest a lot of time in the NBA, so your arguments are all the more confusing to me. BTW, I wouldn't have said s*** if not for the fact that you're constantly bringing up past arguments and straight up stalking qwerty at times.

QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) Ummmm...Morrison is kind of...ummmm...dead. Though the BBC might be looking for an interview, he is surely dead. God damn it, man. I was getting ready to make fun of the BigHurt. Thanks a lot, buddy.

Wizards defense = swiss cheese I had them making the playoffs this year with 43 to 45 wins and just about nobody agreed with me due to their 03-04 record (including major publications, which more often than not had them sucking like none other), but now I find myself telling people that they're not as good as they think. Anyway, if the Bulls can't take the Wizards in a 7 game series, that would be pretty sad (backcourt mismatch or not). -
The truth about A-Rod

QUOTE(truth2034 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) I always knew this was true about Alex every since he started gettin his tips frosted and after he got beat down by Tek. You know, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think anyone outside of Red Sox fans refer to Jason Varitek as "Tek". If Alex Rodriguez was wearing jeans with frosted tips as a member of the Boston Red Sox, you'd probably go out and buy a pair, ya jerkoff. -
Happy birthday, el presidente.

QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 10:27 AM) Sometimes I think you just make an effort to provoke Qwerty in everything Yeah, but I probably would too if qwerty was constantly shooting my theories down, mocking my basketball information, and just making me look bad every time I type anything.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 01:04 AM) And to say that only 1's and 4's have to be strong defenders while 2's, 3's, and 5's don't is ridiculous... I never said that. I'll take my OFFENSE from the 2, 3, and 5, and of course the bench (should have indicated that). And I want a strong defender at the 2 or 3 to come in off the bench when we go on defensive runs. You could look at it in a variety of ways depending on the personnel. But to me, in this current league, major contributions on the offensive end from the 1 and the 4 are not a necessity. One guy has to set up the offense and contain the opposing team's 1. The other guy has to grab every rebound in sight and contain the opposing team's 4 on defense, not to mention getting the SG and SF's back when they get burnt (Gordon, Hinrich, Deng). Chandler is so much more important than most people think. But if we had a defensive freak at C, I'd go for a balance of scoring and defense at the 4. With a scoring C (damn near extinct in this league), an all-out defensive freak at the 4 should work out. I mean, Curry's not a good defender and he can't rebound for s***, but how many centers in this league are going to absolutely school him on offense outside of Shaq and Ilgauskus? Those guys are a dying breed, as opposed to all of the offensive all stars at the 4 (as indicated by the list up top). And looking back at that list, I left out Elton Brand, who is a major scoring option, but not when Chandler is on him. It's easy to forget about the Clippers, of course. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) At least tell the truth. Eddy is averaging 5.4 rebounds per game... http://www.nba.com/playerfile/eddy_curry/index.html?nav=page Hey, the truth really hurts. I get the feeling that Knight was just kinda making fun of him moreso than anything else.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) The Heat have lost to the Bobcats and a depleted Pacer team in the last week or so. I know they should be favored, but don't give them a guaranteed w just yet. This is one of those games that I'd bet the farm on. Bob's cats have only won like three games on the road this year. Brevin Knight's assist totals over the last five games: 15, 15, 16, 10, 15 Emeka Okafor, Primo Brezec, Gerald Wallace, Brevin Knight, Jason Hart, etc. That ain't a bad Top 5 for an expansion team at only 50% of payroll capacity. Naturally, their bench is unspeakably bad. Bulls by 5.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Apr 2, 2005 -> 08:51 AM) damon jones' decent start is a product of Shaq and Wade, but he's been having some horrible months after that fast start. He isn't good for much more than 3's and an assist or two. I've seen at least 4 Heat games this year and Damon Jones kinda sucks. The only good thing is that, unlike Duhon, he'll actually hit a wide-open 3 every once in a great while. Damon Jones has 312 assists this year. He averages about 4.5 assists per game, and last year, when he was running the show in Milwaukee, he averaged 6 assists per game and had the second best assist-to-turnover ratio in the league. He also performed very well in the playoffs. The guy's just a clutch motherf***er. He's a 43% three point shooter with close to 450 attempts on the season. To say that he is good strictly on the strength of Shaq and Wade is foolish. Yes, we all know that they're spectacular players, but Wesley Person and Rasual Butler ain't done jack s***. Can you explain that? Shouldn't Shaq and Wade influence them to shoot 43% from three point range and dish out 4.5 assists per game by your logic? He's not much on defense, but that's fine. He's not gonna cost you a lot of money, and he's a superb three point specialist. I'd love to have him on my team as a sixth man. Those 4th quarter numbers don't tell you anything, dude? And Tyson's ranking? Take a look at that list, and tell me that Tyson ain't the most dominant when it comes to altering shots and keeping rebounds alive. Garnett is the only guy that you can compare him to in that regard. I'll take scoring from the 2, 3, and 5. In this league, it's more of a necessity to have excellent defense at the 4. Just pointing out the obvious: Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Jermaine O'Neal, Amare Stoudamire/Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki, Pau Gasol, Carlos Boozer, Kenyon Martin, Rasheed Wallace, Chris Webber, Zach Randolph, Chris Bosh, Antoine Walker, Dwight Howard, Emeka Okafor, etc. Who's gonna stop all of these guys? And that's why people (those in the know) are in favor of getting a strong 6'5 or taller defensive shooting guard like Raja Bell to come in when we need to go on defensive runs, like the Pistons do. You know, someone like Trenton Hassell, who we cut in favor of Linton Johnson. And I know I don't have to list all of the prolific scorers at the SG position in this league, correct? -

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 02:11 AM) I picked up Blanton late in one league but we really don't know what to expect from guys other than Zito or Harden. Unless there's someone proven available, I would have a hard time dropping an Oakland starter just based on potential. Tom Glavine is available, and I did draft him in the last round, but I decided to go with Haren instead. Joel Pineiro is also available. I had him on my team last year & I dunno if I want to relive that experience. I have in my watch list, though. I might add him depending on what he does in his first few starts. Aaron Harang (Cincinatti Reds) has had intriguing stats this spring, but everything that I've read says he sucks. I have him and Luke Wilson on my watch list. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 03:14 AM) Hammerhead, are you in a keeper league? I wouldn't expect a whole lot from any of Blanton/Meyer/Haren this year, but next year, all three should have a shot to shine... And, if you can grab Rich Harden in a league, I definitely recommend (sp) doing so. Rich Harden was actually a 4th round pick in my league (Soxtalk League #3). He went ahead of guys like Halladay, Burnett, Zito, etc. You'd have to think that one of those three (Blanton/Meyer/Haren) could kick ass this year, and all three went undrafted. If I'm going after SP sleepers, I look at good offensive teams who play in great pitching conditions (Mariners, Athletics, etc). I have Madritsch and Haren, but no other sleeper SPs. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 12:21 AM) Cripes...I'm f***ed in my money fantasy league. I lose AK last week, now Curry out today. I'm gonna be in trouble. I lost both AK and Jermaine O'Neal this month, my top two picks.

I picked up Dan Haren a couple weeks ago, but apparently, the guy just sucks or what? It's looking like I'm gonna have to drop him. What about Meyer and Blanton? What do people honestly think about Oakland's 3-4-5 right now? Is Haren worth holding onto, what with his damn near 7 ERA this spring?

Mookie Blaylock

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 30, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) Damnit. You got me. I was just coming back in here to correct the post. I Alice in Chains. What the hell was I thinking. :headshake :headshake Pearl Jam is the first thing that comes to mind whenever I hear the name Mookie Blaylock, as opposed to his superior basketball skills. I actually used to be a huge Pearl Jam fan (mostly of their non-commercial stuff, Eddie is a very soulful mang), but I rarely ever listen to them nowadays. I read like three of their books back in the day, so I know that Mookie heard about then using his name & objected to it being used, so they dropped it. They are some huge Seattle Supersonics fans (huge basketball fans in general). Alice In Chains is good stuff, especially the MTV Unplugged material from 1993. I don't think I've listened to it in about 10 years, though. -

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 08:30 AM) I can't even believe you guys are turning this into an actual discussion.... Bulls fans UNDERrating Kirk??? Hinrich-6.7 assists per game Duhon-5.0 assists per game Almost TWO more assists per game while playing the shooting guard position. Enough said. Stop kidding yourselves, Duhon isn't more than a backup. I don't care about the 1.7 differential in assists. Fact is, Duhon is a rookie, and PG is said to be the hardest position to learn in the NBA, so I'd say that he's doing a pretty damn good job of it off the bat. He can bring the ball up the court with grace, he can distribute the ball, he can play defense, he doesn't turn it over that much, etc. With the exception of shooting, he has done very well, and you best believe that many teams will be interested in him this offseason. And again, who is underrating Kirk? All I'm saying is that he's not a PG. -

hammerhead johnson replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 08:21 AM) Nope. Hinrich is the better point guard. It was already stated above, Duhon has no offense. A true point guard also needs to be able to score to keep defenses honest. Penetrating, hitting jump shots, etc...it's all part of being a point guard too. When on the court you have to be able to efficiently contribute in all of these facets of the game (Except Chandler...He just has to rebound). You're mistaking having to pass out of necessity because of a lack of an offensive presence with being a true point guard. Okay, then maybe one day we'll get a point guard who can do some things on offense. At the moment, we don't have one. Hinrich is an SG. That's beyond obvious at this point. Perhaps he could start at PG on a team that isn't as reliant on one man to bring the ball up the court and set up the attack, like the Sacramento Kings or the Philadelphia 76ers. -

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) He's a past first guard because his offensive skills are basically non-existant. I'm much happier with Hinrich and Gordon than I am Duhon and Hinrich/Gordon. Not merely a pass-first guard. He is a point guard. They are supposed to set everyone else up. They are the table setters, not the home run hitters. Exceptions include bizarre players such as Steve Francis, the sometimes PG Allen Iverson, etc. They're SGs in PG bodies. Lost souls. -

hammerhead johnson replied to BridgeportHeather's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Duhon is the best point guard on the Bulls roster. This does not mean that he is a better player than either Hinrich or Gordon, all things considered. What this means is that Hinrich and Gordon are not cut out for the point. Don't get it twisted.
