Settle down, ladies. We've only played 32 games. Why don't you give it a little more time before you send the gawd down to the minors.
-
Gordo with three strikeouts today. OPS barely over .600.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 1, 2010 -> 06:49 PM) exactly hes not a regular player but he was being used as a regular player. you said fans were impatient with him when they were upset that he was playing a lot. if he was just a bench player nobody would have a problem with it but when he was hitting 3rd and 5th thats where the problems started And that ain't on Kotsay, correct? Does he pencil himself into the 5th slot?

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ May 1, 2010 -> 06:36 PM) Way to go, Kotsay. Dude that hit .290 in both '08 and '09 with an overall OPS in the .770 range, getting s***ted on by impatient fans. QUOTE (docsox24 @ May 1, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) seriously? more like smart fans who know he has no business being a regular player He's not a regular player. He's a good bench player/occasional starter. Where did I say that he was an everyday player? Did you really just refer to yourself as a smart fan? Smart people are not presumptuous.

Unbelievable.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 1, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) Is this Andruw's third 2-homer game this year already? His slugging percentage is now at .700, and his OPS is up over .1100 It's still really early, and stats for one particular month don't mean anything, but I can't believe what I've seen since the beginning of spring training.

Andruw Jones lolz.

I'm not one of these fans that is delusional enough to think I know better than a big league manager, but I'm fairly confident that I could take a louisville slugger to the back of the head from Albert Pujols and still have enough brain cells left to keep Omar Vizquel out of the leadoff slot. This is just flat out disgusting. Pierre might be wack as f***, but he's still a much better option out of the leadoff slot than 43 year old Omar.

QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) It's not we. Its the White Sox. It's bigger than just the players themselves. I don't want to say something lame like "White Sox Nation" to describe what I mean by "we", but you get the point.

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 12:14 AM) i just want to remind everyone that we just got swept by the indians. QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 12:22 AM) We? No. The White Sox got swept. They've also lost 5 of 6 to the tribe this year. We got swept, Dave. I sense that you get punched in the face on a regular basis.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Are you starting to come around on Quentin as DH, bmags? I know you've expressed some concern in the past. There is some truth to Quentin needing a distraction so that he doesn't drive himself crazy between at bats. But it's obvious that our OF defense is much better with Pierre/Rios/Jones. Even Stevie Wonder can see that. But this is not something to call someone out on because both sides are correct.

QUOTE (qwerty @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) 38 times second base has been stolen against him and 52 times runners have been thrown out at second. Only three attempts against him to steal third and two were successful. He has also had home stolen against him once. So in total he holds stolen bases to 42% and league average is right around 70%. That is remarkable. He has 70 pickoffs to go along with 37 pickoffs while caught stealing. Jose contreras has averaged 20.4 stolen bases against of second base in his career compared to buehrle's 3.8. Buehrle is decent you could say. Tremendous post.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 01:29 AM) From what I can tell he's the only player in big league history to put up an OPS of at least .890 and a batting average of .230 or lower over a 500+ PA season. The only other player to do it with at least 33 PA in a season was in fact Frank Thomas in 2005. So only 2 players have gotten at least 33 PA in a season and put up an OPS of at least .890 and a batting average of .230 or lower. So yeah, it's basically next to impossible. Only 7 players in the history of the game have put up an OPS of at least .800 with a batting average of .230 or lower over a 400+ PA season. The last one to do it was Adam Dunn in 2003 when he put up a .215/.354/.465/.819 line with 27 HR in 469 PA. The highest OPS of the other 6 was Gene Tenace in 1980 who put up a .222/.399/.424/.823 line with 92 BB in 416 PA, that's the 2nd most walks all time in a season with 420 or fewer PA; Ferris Fain walked 94 times in 358 PA in 1955 his line for the season: .260/.455/.326/.781 This is an excellent post.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Yep, it appears that rumors of Vazquez being a mental midget were more then true QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) I think of "mental midget" equating to a lack of intelligence. I don't think that's the problem here. This is more "emotional house of cards". He crumbles under pressure. I associate the term "mental midget" moreso with someone who crumbles under pressure. In my case, if I can't get it up during sex, it's because I am a mental midget. The more that I think about it, the less likely it is that I'll be able to get it up. It has nothing to do with my IQ. Of course, this was all during the pre-viagra days. But could you call Milton Bradley a mental midget based on his lack of intelligence? No question.

What's up with Aaron Poreda? Between San Diego and Portland last season, he put up 50 walks in 46 2/3 IP. He's got 4 walks in 3 IP this season w/ Portland. What is the story? Dude only had 40 walks in 160 IP with Birmingham and Winston Salem back in 2008. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 07:15 PM) Don't get too excited just yet. His OPS last year on May 1 was 1.304. And his OPS on May 1 of 2008 was a whopping .533. I don't know what to think when I look at the stat sheet, so I'm just gonna use my eyes, and right now, it looks like he's having a lot of quality at bats. Andruw Jones is truly a unique case. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 13, 2010 -> 05:56 AM) I'll gladly take 2 HRs a game from Andruw Jones. Did you notice that Pierre stole on a lefthander today? Shocking. That's unpossible. Chances were like a million to juan that something like that would happen, though. But no, it's not exactly out of the question to steal on an LHP. I think that Perez just made me nervous. Hey dun, I missed the game last night because I was watching the Bulls, but I see that Andruw Jones was a triple short of the cycle? What in the hell is going on? I just thought that he was somewhat rejuvenated, but this s*** is getting out of hand. I'm still not gonna pick him up in my fantasy leagues, though. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) That means there is a 27-28% chance that Pierre moves to atleast 2B with Beckham winding up on 1st due to a base hit with no outs for Quentin. It also means that there is probably a 34-36% chance that Pierre moves up to 2B and Beckham to 1B with a walk, HBP, or a hit. It also leaves somewhere right around a 40-42% chance that either Beckham is retired at 1B with Pierre ending up on 2B or Pierre is retired at 2B with Beckham at 1B, or any of the aforementioned situations. There's probably a 5% chance of a GIDP in that situation. I'll take my chances, assuming Beckham is only a .270-.280 hitter. But here's the best part. Rafael Perez throws with his left hand...this is the constant debate - "Pierre shouldn't have stolen because Perez has a balk-ish type move to 1B and Pierre may have gotten thrown out." Beckham hit .318/.372/.518/.890 against left handed pitching last year. You are seriously going to look me in the internet-eye and say it was the right move to bunt Beckham when he hit lefties at a strong .320 clip last year? That's about the equivalent of bunting with Jim Thome or Jermaine Dye in that situation. That's absolutely insane. Gordon Beckham bunting at all is the wrong move because Gordon Beckham is a good hitter. Gordon Beckham bunting in the 9th against Rafael Perez when bunting isn't even going to get the runner on base to 3B with less than 2 outs is even more disasterous because it involves someone on the White Sox getting a hit (which they have proven in the early going they are not very good at, considering they have 8 hits in the last 18 innings). Gordon Beckham just should not bunt unless it is the most extreme of circumstances. All good points, but you still want to get that runner into scoring position with less than two outs, and bunting him over is the safest bet. That's all there is to it. Quentin walks, and then you need a base hit from either Konerko or Jones. That is your absolute best shot at getting a run. -

For whatever reason, whether it was based on weight gains, laziness, boredom, depression, etc, Jones has sucked horrendously over his past 1200+ plate appearances. From what I have seen and read since the beginning of March, it appears as though he has been somewhat rejuvenated. A .250 average is a very real possibility. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) Actually, those same things were said about Jones a couple of times the past few years. About him being in great shape going into the 2009 season? Yeah. But he's been a mental basketcase since the 2007 season. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) Cause he's not capable of that anymore. Why not? He hit .290 with the Braves in '08, and he hit .290 with the Sox last season. How is he not capable of hitting .280 and posting an OBP right around .350? You could do much worse out of the 2 slot. -

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Apr 9, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Yeah, but now you're going back to numbers. Andruw Jones has hit .207 over his last 1228 regular season plate appearances but now he's back to his late 20's form based on a few spring games in which you saw him drive the ball? I saw Kotsay killing balls all spring perhaps he'll revert back to his late 20's self. Jones seems like he's somewhat got it together from a mental standpoint, and he's in great shape. You could not say the same about his overall state of physical and mental wel being when discussing those previous 1200+ plate appearances.
