  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 12:59 AM) Damn straight I mocked his death and I'll continue to do so. You can look at it anyway you want, the bastard enabled child rape. f*** him.
  2. I pretty much hate everything, and it's getting a hell of a lot worse as I get older. I will straight write a person off for watching Jersey Shore or pretty much any other reality TV show. If there's a bigger curmudgeon than me on this site, then I'd like to meet him/her, because we're probably soul mates.
  3. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 14, 2011 -> 03:39 AM) 10-2. You can't say we should have won all the bullpen meltdowns, then not give back the Soria comeback. Good point. God damn it, we're supposed to be 10-2.
  4. QUOTE (bighurt574 @ Apr 13, 2011 -> 11:56 PM) The Connie's may not have been great, but I thought the new pizza was awful. It's almost insulting when you can see them cooking the frozen pizza right there, cutting you a little slice, and paying $5 for it. What a sad state of affairs.
  5. God damn it, we're supposed to be 11-1.
  6. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Luck is exactly what BABIP is measuring, to the extent possible. Luck. How else am I supposed to interpret that stat? A sub-.200 BABIP is unsustainable so I expect that, at some point, his average and OPS vs. lefties will rise, even though you have all of 300 PA's to support your point. Whether that happens this year, I have no idea, that's not how odds work. So, it's not at all possible that he just consistently puts weak crap in play against left-handed pitchers because he's ineffective against 'em? Did that not occur to you? BABIP is not a straight measure of luck. Some players consistently post really weak BABIP averages. And ss2k5, Andruw hit damn near .260 last year against LHP. The point is that he's a hell of a lot more valuable than Carlos against LHP.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Andruw Jones was just cited in this thread, right? .931 OPS against lefties in 2010.
  8. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) Your citation of fact puts a lot of weight into injury-plagued/mentally deranged seasons. The fact of the matter is we don't have enough data to definitively say "this guy sucks against lefties". 530 PA's isn't really all that much--it's akin to someone having a bad 3/4 of a season. It could happen to anyone. Take a guess at Q's career BABIP against lefties. Answer: .198. And he still put up an OPS over .750. Come on, man, you just ribbed someone for not picking up on the numbers, but you're throwing batting average and the eye test out there. Wow, maybe the organization thinks like you do, which is why we don't have someone who can fill in for Quentin against LHP. You think that BABIP is gonna come way up against lefties this year, huh? I guess it was just bad luck for him to hit in the .210 range against LHP in both 2009 and 2010. The eye test means nothing, despite the fact that DVR capabilities = no games missed. Keep telling yourself that it's gonna be okay.
  9. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:16 PM) How is a citation of fact a "nice try"? Your citation of fact puts a lot of weight into his 2008 season. The league has figured him out since then. He can't hit lefties worth a damn.
  10. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 06:12 PM) Career .773 OPS isn't great, but it's far from "getting your ass handed to you". He only has ~500 PA's against lefties for his career, so he could very well be better than his numbers have borne out. In fact, I'd suspect that they would be over the long haul. Overall, though, there's not that much of a problem to be fixed. Probably not worth a whole roster spot, either. Nice try, but he has barely cleared the Mendoza line in each of the past two seasons vs LHP. Do you watch these games? He looks terrible out there.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 03:47 PM) After two seconds of research, it was easy to see that you only looked at total numbers. I'm talking about how he performs against lefties, and he hits them very well. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 8, 2011 -> 03:50 PM) Except for in what was his only full season, 2008, where he put up a .757 OPS against righties and a .671 OPS against lefties. In 2008, when he had just turned 23 years old? I can't believe that Balta, of all people, is sleeping on these numbers: 2010: .926 OPS vs LHP 2009: .820 OPS vs LHP Carlos Quentin is lousy against LHP. They let go of Andruw Jones (.931 OPS vs LHP in 2010), and now Lastings is gone. That's two cheap solutions to the Carlos Quentin problem, and they botched both of 'em. LOL at defense. Carlos is an extreme butcher out there. How much of a drop-off would there be with Lastings? Pat yourself on the back if you even mentioned defense here, good god. Now we get to see Quentin get his ass handed to him whenever there is a left-hander on the mound. Sounds like a great plan.
  12. Soria pitched in 5 of Kansas City's first 6 games. Put those 4 runs on Ned Yost. The guy is a complete imbecile.
  13. Gotta clobber Fausto's weak s***. He can't strike anybody out, son. I'm predicting two Brent Morel grand slams in the same inning, and a 13-5 victory.
  14. Thank god that this guy is finally gonna go away. Peace out, Jermaine.
  15. Hot Fire will seize the 3B job by May 1st, make 40 errors, and fail to draw a walk in 450 ABs.
  16. His fashion acumen is still unforgivable. And he hangs with retards. It's permissible to have a stupid friend, but if they're completely retarded, that can't be good. And in response to a previous post, Lastings got expelled from school for having sex with a minor during his junior year. He was 16 years old for the vast majority of that school year (up until the beginning of April), so it kinda sounds like a raw deal. This was in Florida, of all states. The board members that decided to kick him out probably have sex with their first cousins.
  17. He only has one pitch, and he's left-handed. He's very handsome, though.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 07:53 PM) Oh god, this is terrible. TERRIBLE. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 7, 2011 -> 07:51 PM) I think some people automatically assume that a black man in cornrows is a bad person or troublemaker. Well, yeah. Don't you? And he wears hot pink dress shirts? This guy is quite the target for racists and homophobes (not to mention hispanic dudes in the winter league). And who the hell names their kid Lastings? How embarrassing, but then again, I guess it's better than naming your kid Lesean, Desean, Tayshaun, Knowshon, or Shonn. It's arguable, though. That said, I hope he works out!
  19. This site is beyond atrocious whenever the Sox go through a rough stretch.
  20. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) AJ has been playing because of the success he has calling games. I will bet though that he will add some offense to his repritore in this all important game. I'm seeing a bomb from him tonight. Liriano has not allowed an HR in 21 of 22 starts. He'd probably have suicidal thoughts if AJ took him deep.
  21. Francisco Liriano has been a beast this season. Dude has a Curt Schilling like K-to-BB ratio of almost 4-to-1, damn near 10 strikeouts per 9 innings, only 2 HR allowed all season (both in the same game at Fenway Park), etc. The crazy thing is that his BABIP is .350, which is 50 points worse than the league average. Kevin Slowey and Scott Baker also have crappy BABIPs of greater than .320. The Twins defense is insanely overrated.
