  1. This is the K-Dub plan. You people need to embrace it. Jared Mitchell > Mike Trout Courtney Hawkins has 34 strikeouts in 57 plate appearances on the Single A level. EMBRACE IT
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 17, 2013 -> 11:50 PM) Do you remember Jack Haley? Good god. You're still smarter than Hawk, though.
  3. Gonzalez and Sale are the only impact players that K-Dub drafted in 12 years, and he didn't know what he had in the former. Just in case people are wondering why the current product is hot garbage....
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 08:26 PM) And it could also lead to a lost decade, particularly if their ticket sales erode while they're piling up those draft picks. Their ticket sales are not gonna erode. Come on. But yeah, it's possible that the vast majority of these highly-talented prospects could turn out to be crap. That shouldn't be a revelation to anyone.
  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) He's acting like having 4 top 100 prospects is going to lead to guaranteed success for the Cubs. Uh, I'm saying that having a top minor league system and a boatload of cash could lead to success. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 07:36 PM) This is a team that lost 100 games last year. Again - who cares? You're zoning in on a grain of sand and missing the beach, kid.
  6. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) Nevermind those 100+ years of futility... I'm sorry, but how is this in any way relevant to their current rebuilding efforts? And how are guys like Rizzo and Samardzija not noteworthy assets?
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 03:52 AM) Speaking of company man... How does Ricketts pay to have you parrot their company line? Is that really the company line? Because I thought it was just common sense. If you're in rebuilding mode, then the short term is meaningless. You can see that the Cubs are going to have enormous payroll flexibility and a top 5 minor league system in the business come 2015, correct? God, it sucks to be them!
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 10, 2013 -> 03:00 AM) Yeah, watching the team on the South side bring up random guys and keep getting production out of them while the top picks and veterans you've invested a fortune in lose 100 games has to be excruciating. I never had you pegged as a company man. Surely, you're more informed than the people who sing the praises of mediocre pitchers like Quintana and Santiago? I'm only concerned with building towards a championship. Keep your "random guys". Who cares if the Cubs lost 100 games? The short term is meaningless in their case. If they lose 100 once again and score the #1 overall pick, then that's awesome.
  9. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 09:33 PM) Baseball Prospectus' Top 101 Prospect List https://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=19694 No White Sox players. Though this note on Hawkins: Really don't know what to make of this. If you believe them, then scouts are very skeptical about Hawkins. LOL at no White Sox players. Strong K-Dub stench. How about them Cubs, though. 18. Almora OF 20. Baez SS 36. Soler OF 54. Vizcaino SP Check out how a real organization does things.
  10. I think that kitekrazy is my favorite poster on here. The guy is a comedic genius.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 07:41 PM) People want the White Sox to develop players. Developing players doesn't mean giving them one year and disposing them or making them part timers. Taking occassional lumps happens to be part of development. a 5% walk rate is not an occasional lump. It's pretty terrifying, actually. I don't want the White Sox wasting their time developing players with limited plate discipline upside unless they're bringing top notch glovework to crucial defensive positions.
  12. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 04:58 PM) White Sox will not platoon Viciedo and they shouldn't. Yeah, they should just get rid of him. It's all part of the fumigation process. To anybody who thinks otherwise, just remember that he'd have to make a quantum leap just to be decent against right-handed pitching. He's not a building block.
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 05:16 PM) So Bill James should be the only voter for HOF? Saber metrics aren't the end all be all. Dude, it's Bill James. What are you going on about?
  14. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 05:14 PM) 300 wins is 300 wins. I don't care what any advanced metrics say, 300 wins (without PED issues of course) is a ticket to Cooperstown. That's an oversimplification, and then some. Those 300 wins are a testament to how good the Atlanta Braves were as a team. Glavine was basically of the same caliber as guys like Jimmy Key and Mark Langston. He was a very good pitcher, no doubt, but he's not a legitimate hall of famer.
  15. QUOTE (Cali @ Jan 10, 2013 -> 06:46 AM) And you think that white haired old writer who still types his stories on a typewriter is gonna be looking at Glavine's FIP? Haha I never implied that he wouldn't make it. I'm just saying that he doesn't deserve it.
  16. Tom Glavine has 305 wins, but he also has a career 3.95 FIP, which would put him in the following group (3.85-to-3.99 range) Tom Candiotti Mark Langston Danny Darwin Mike Flanagan Dennis Martinez Jimmy Key Chuck Finley David Wells Jack McDowell Kevin Millwood Derek Lowe Javier Vazquez John Lackey I only looked at starters with a career WAR of 30 or better. Glavine does not impress me. He might be the most overrated SP of the past quarter century. Those wins throw people off, and then some.
  17. QUOTE (Jake @ Jan 9, 2013 -> 11:38 PM) but IMO Biggio is not a HoFer at all According to Bill James, Biggio was the second best position player of the 90s (behind only Barry Bonds), and the 35th best position player of all time. You don't think he's a hall of famer at all, huh? Interesting.
  18. QUOTE (MAX @ Dec 29, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) I'm not denying that them being black is a large part of it. Why would anyone care about that? I'm just getting to know Courtney. Someone should tell him that Derek Jeter is half black. Then he could update his favorite players list.
  19. Big Frank and Griffey were broken before Courtney even hit puberty. He's from Corpus Christi - within 200 miles of Houston, and 500 miles of Dallas. He mentions no Astros or Rangers players, which would make sense seeing as how neither team has had a black superstar in ages.
  20. Jared Mitchell with a C grade - why am I not surprised? It's gonna take a while to fumigate this organization. The K-Dub stench is unspeakably foul.
  21. Quite the head-scratcher. I also see that he was born in 1993, so bringing up players like Griffey and Frank has me even more confused. Was he just mentioning any good black players that came to mind? Okay, so he's not exactly a rocket scientist. Let's just hope that he develops into something. I'm at my wits' end with this bulls*** farm system.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) #WhiteSox finally have a top 100 prospect with Courtney Hawkins? No way. A Top 100 prospect? That would be quite an accomplishment.
  23. Shields will most likely depart after 2014, but hey, at least Kansas City will be 80 win caliber for the next two years. And there's a very good chance that Myers will be tearing up the league come 2014/2015. It's a stupid trade, no matter how you slice it.
