  1. It's too bad we're moving to Portland, because I haven't felt this good in a while.
  2. Wow, he's gonna take a beating on this one. From the comments section on Hardball Talk: http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/04/...iced-this-year/ I'd like to add people who whistle when nobody else is around to the indicators of mental illness. Hope that ain't the case with Frank.
  3. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 06:41 AM) LOL, If you're going to pull stats from since 2012 on and then say that, I'm sorry old yeller. He also lead our sorry ass team in batting average last year, he is a capable hitter. He was merely below average before 2012. Since then, he's been particularly awful.
  4. This is a swell debate that's spread out over multiple threads. Candidates: Alexei Ramirez - Has a 79 wRC+ since the beginning of 2012 (1300 plate appearances). Take Darwin Barney's 62 wRC+ out of the picture, and Alexei is in the discussion for worst full-time offensive player in the majors over that time frame. We'll let him live because of his glove. White Sox fans who mention him as a candidate for the #2 hole should be taken out back and shot. Alejandro De Aza - Basically an even 100 wRC+ type, so he's not dreadful, which is something. He doesn't get on base enough to justify batting in the 2 hole. Still looks like Ted Williams when you compare him to Alexei Ramirez. Avisail Garcia - Horrendous plate discipline, but he posted obscenely high BABIP figures throughout his 5 year minor league career. I don't know quite what to make of this one, except to say that I smell a K-Dub acquisition. Gordon Beckham - Made a quantum leap last year when he went from the .290 OBP range all the way up to .320. That's some serious cause for celebration. He's a Triple A lifer with a hot wife. Marcus Semien - Had 110 walks and 130 runs spread out over 4 levels in 2013. He posted those numbers in damn near 800 plate appearances, but it's still impressive. Had a 17.5% walk rate and 170 wRC+ in close to 500 Double A at bats. He could turn out to be the only competent hitter that Kenny Williams ever drafted, so if you thought the pressure of hitting in the 2 hole was immense, then think again. From what I can gather, the only real option here is Semien. I suppose that De Aza is a decent backup plan if Marcus fails miserably over an extended period of time.
  5. QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Apr 1, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Well you did say he CAN'T get leftys out. I was just pointing out that the last batter was lefty. So maybe he can get some out? Is this really happening?
  6. We all know that a tree stump could probably match Viciedo's defensive ratings. Now check the 2013 wRC+ splits: Tabata's wRC+ against righties: 122 De Aza's wRC+ against lefties: 123 Viciedo's wRC+ against righties: 98 Viciedo's wRC+ against lefties: 89 And it looks like Tabata is only beginning to figure things out, whereas, Viciedo is on the fast track to being a Triple A lifer. It's really a no-brainer.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 06:54 AM) I've been cool with gays since pretty much my entire life, so, yeah. You were born circa 92/93, right around the time I lost my virginity. Hmmmm. Do you know who your real father is?
  8. Move it to the Kenny Williams Finally Comes To Terms With Gays In The Year Of Our Lord 2014 thread. Shut up.
  9. I'm a pioneer in this because I've been down with the gays since the 80s. Unlike a lot of you dudes who are coming to terms with it in 2014. Yeah, I listen to George Michael and Madonna. Cut off point for the latter is right before the Dick Tracy era. I ain't trying to hear Vogue unless it's a Faith No More cover.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 07:09 PM) I don't know who Ronnie is QUOTE (scs787 @ Feb 8, 2014 -> 08:07 PM) not Ronnie, who's a former catcher Horrible posters doing their thing. Especially wabbit, who is just beyond dreadful. I'm with you, Jose. Okay, so not everyone confuses Ronnie Brewer with Felipe Paulino. So what.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 1, 2014 -> 03:40 PM) http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/pos...ARBR/order/true You're missing Puig at 5.0 Yeah, it just so happens that Colby's fWAR and bWAR are identical. Geraldo Parra has 1.5 more wins if you look at bWAR. He's a guy that's not really on my radar, but god damn - his defensive ratings are off the charts.
  12. I'll be watching Rasmus closely this year. Look at what he accomplished in 118 games: OF WAR 1. Mike Trout 10.4 2. Andrew McCutchen 8.2 3. Carlos Gomez 7.6 4. Jacoby Ellsbury 5.8 5. Shane Victorino 5.6 6. Hunter Pence 5.4 7. Shin Soo-Choo 5.2 8. Carlos Gonzalez 4.9 9. Colby Rasmus 4.8 10. Jayson Werth 4.6 He's just entering his prime, so we'll see if he can build on his 2013 success.
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 30, 2014 -> 07:20 PM) I actually get a kick out of Rosenbloom, but to put the blame on Dunn that his team never made the playoffs is crazy. Rosenbloom is the man, but this rant was particularly stupid. It's not Dunn's fault that the Reds has horrendous pitching during his time in Cincinnati.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 29, 2014 -> 04:36 PM) Hawkins has potential to be in the top half of that list. I am really curious to see what the White Sox do with him this year. According to Buddy Bell, he's the next Hank Aaron. And it's about time, because Hank has been gone for damn near 40 years.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) Jesus Flores That's impressive, wite. And disturbing.
  16. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 06:56 AM) I have Nieto on my starting lineup for a couple reasons. 1) Being a rule-V pick, he has to stay on the roster this season, so I'm going to assume that they will at the very least break camp with him on the 25-man to see what they've got. 2) I don't have him as the backup simply because I feel/hope the Sox realize that Flowers is nothing more than a warm body, so I am hoping Nieto will get a chance to prove he can be the tallest midget. 3) Nieto is a switch hitter, and this lineup is largely devoid of left-handed hitters. And the reason why I choose Phegley as the odd man out is because he could use some time in AAA to improve his game and I believe he is the only one of the 3 guys that can be safely placed in AAA. (Nieto can't, and Flowers would have to pass through waivers, although he probably would). Has there been a catcher in the history of major league baseball who skipped both Double & Triple A? You're telling me that this guy is ready to handle a major league pitching staff? You guys may have your reasoning, but you're not seeing the forest. I'm down with Stan Bahnsen's plan. It's Double A, or back to the Nationals.
  17. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 03:23 AM) People are thinking he is going to be on the roster which is pretty likely. He's a back up catcher, if he is on the roster he is going to play. Thanks, but I'm referring to people who have Nieto in the starting lineup. I can't blame you for being confused. The thread creator asked for starting lineups, but some people have been posting benches, 25 man rosters, etc.
  18. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 28, 2014 -> 01:25 AM) I saw Nieto's name more than I figured here. He's never played above Single A, so I don't know people are thinking.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 27, 2014 -> 07:33 PM) Forget it, they are in "If we repeat it enough times, it will be true" mode. Right, we should switch the subject right quick. Tell us more about how K-Dub could've had a good farm system if he so desired. I'm just dying to hear more about how he purposely drafted awful players for a dozen years.
  20. It's only okay if Viciedo is getting taunted at soxfest. Not Dunn. Paulstar, you S-U-C-K.
