  1. QUOTE (beautox @ Jan 25, 2014 -> 06:00 PM) for all intensive purposes
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 07:48 PM) I'd argue that the Sox hit rock bottom this past year and they seem to be looking OK, on the road to a quick recovery. Having a Chris Sale never hurts, but they had literally nothing offensively and now you can say that they have legitimate pieces to build around. I just think Theo is going to have to get creative to produce a winner there. Counting on free agency, the minor leagues, and the waiver wire just doesn't seem like it's going to cut it. Yeah, I was depressed with the situation this time last year, but bringing in Abreu, Eaton, Davidson, etc has me excited as hell. Hell of a job by Rick Hahn.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 23, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) The Indians' top 2 prospects heading into the 1991 season? Mark Lewis and Tim Costo. #3 prospect in 1992? Reggie Jefferson. #2 and #3 prospects in 1993? Alan Embree and Paul Shuey Exactly. Some of those big names are gonna bust, but who knows about the lesser known minor league players that could emerge out of the Cubs system. I'm not denying that it takes quite a while to recover after hitting rock bottom.
  4. What the Cubs are doing right now reminds me of what the Cleveland Indians did in the late 80s/early 90s. Albert Belle Jim Thome Manny Ramirez Kenny Lofton Sandy Alomar Jr Carlos Baerga Just a sick collection of offensive talent. So many can't miss prospects Of course, Charles Nagy is the only notable pitching prospect that they developed during that time period. The Cubs are gonna have to get really creative in putting together a competent pitching staff, but that doesn't mean I can't admire their collection of hitting talent. If you're a baseball fan, how could you not?
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 06:28 AM) Don't worry guys. Baez/Bryant/Almora/Soler are all gonna be stars! QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 07:51 AM) You damn right! #hammerheadjohnson aka I want some attention Jordan4Life aka #numbnuts aka #failedthe6thgrade Keep my name out your mouth, you herb. Shouldn't you be off somewhere getting clowned mercilessly. Cubs farm system is STACKED. Deal with it.
  6. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 06:42 PM) Viciedo is projected in the article at a 107 wRC+, up from a 96 wRC+. That's a fairly substantial improvement. Those are Steamer projections. And we all know that Steamer smokes crack.
  7. Viciedo's presence would not be good for hitting camp morale. When Abreu discovers just how incompetent Dayan is, he'll probably bust his balls and tell him to raft back to Cuba. We'll want Dunn and/or Konerko around to break up the fight. If there's anything that Viciedo is good for, it's screwing over the team, so it stands to reason that he could potentially injure Abreu if there's any beef.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 06:47 AM) Change 3B to Davidson. Don't be that guy.
  9. QUOTE (timbo @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) say the sox get tanaka how much cooper will help him pitch in majors QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 08:31 PM) I think Tanaka will be doing his own pitching. QUOTE (timbo @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 08:34 PM) yeah he needs to adjst beucae of his work style Keep this conversation going, fellas. Riveting stuff.
  10. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jan 13, 2014 -> 09:49 PM) A bit annoying, maybe, but far from the most annoying shtick I've seen on a message board. On another board that I frequent, there is a guy whose avatar is an unshaven guy in a giant cowboy hat, he types in ALL CAPS, and nearly every word he types has the first few letters of the word replaced by an apostrophe, as if he is trying to portray a cowboy accent in print. That actually sounds pretty awesome. LOL at Abreu's baseball reference page. Yeah, I think I'm gonna go the non-pansy route and predict an .850 OPS in his first year.
  11. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Dec 27, 2013 -> 02:18 AM) That and the Yoko Ono avatar. Man, she is so ugly.
  12. Wow, good vibes in the Future Sox forum? From fangraphs: Adam Eaton knew his place from the jump. I'm assuming that coaches are constantly asking Tim to work counts and hit ground balls/line drives. Finding a way to reach first base should be his mission in life. But he obviously has great potential in the speed categories. His BABIP was .384, and he stole 24 bases in only 68 games. Fangraphs also said that he has "modest arm strength". There are exceptions, but in the vast majority of cases, those guys eventually find a home at 2B, correct? God, I hope he works out.
  13. Solid. This dude doesn't give up home runs. He allowed only one in 2013 (to Derek Norris, of all people). And while it's rarely ever advisable to have a left-hander closing games, he could still be good for 5-to-10 saves, depending on matchups. Damn good value for only 4 million.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 18, 2013 -> 11:36 PM) He just needs to learn how to be more selective on a consistent basis. Oh god, how many more times are we gonna have to hear this crap.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 17, 2013 -> 07:47 AM) He's like Javy Vazquez with wavy, golden locks. Javy Vazquez finished with a career 54 WAR. That's good enough for Top 75 of all time. He's in the same WAR bracket as Whitey Ford, David Cone, Doc Gooden, etc, and their innings are all comparable. Samardzija's market value is pretty high because people see a potential Scherzer-like breakout (potential being the key word). He certainly has the stuff. Maybe 9.0 K/9 turns into 10.0 K/9 next season. I wouldn't be shocked. I'll be targeting him in fantasy leagues, in any event.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 16, 2013 -> 07:20 PM) So for those keeping score at home, the Sox have managed to acquire their probable future #1, #3, #4, and #5 hitters in the last 6 months. Those hitters the Sox have gotten are under team control for 22 years. 6 for Abreu and Davidson, 5 for Garcia and Eaton. Beautiful. The fumigation process is well under way. I still see Viciedo on the roster, though - he of the negative WAR/96 wRC+ caliber. Get him the hell out of here, please.
  17. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Boston looks like the best fit, since Napoli has been pretty pedestrian after May. But yeah, this is one where the Cubs/Dodgers won't be in a position to blow everyone away this time because of their incumbents. The Mets and Rangers also seem like teams that will be hot on this dude's trail.
  18. I'm also a Puig fanboy, but Trout is getting ready to post back-to-back 10 WAR seasons, and he just turned 22 the other day. So yeah, there's not much of a debate.
  19. Puig ranks 9th in the majors in walks over the past 30 days. His overall walk rate is now up to 8%. wRC+ still Ruthian at 194.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 11:49 AM) If a team would give Theo a package as if this guy was an ace, Theo should jump on it. Agreed. I don't think he's an ace. I think he's got elite #2 written all over him, but maybe he'll be a lifelong underachiever (the anti-Quintana). So hell yeah, if you can rape someone, go for it.
  21. He got slammed today, right? Well, his xFIP in the game was actually 2.90, which is actually an A+ level xFIP. He came into the game with an xFIP of 3.58, which was good enough for 27th overall in baseball. He's now in the top 25.
  22. That's pretty scary about Fielder. 2009 wRC+ 161 2010 wRC+ 136 2011 wRC+ 161 2012 wRC+ 153 2013 wRC+ 115 And 2010 was considered a bad year by his standards. This year has been nothing short of abysmal. But abysmal Fielder still has a higher wRC+ than anybody on the White Sox. That's pretty funny, I guess.
