QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 6, 2012 -> 03:41 PM) Maybe this guy is like Wimpy and blooming late. Say what? You also made it a point to mention that Keppinger hit a home run in a game you attended. Are you serious when you type this stuff? Because if it's all a bit, then you might be the most brilliant poster on the site. A key stat that hasn't been mentioned: Kep had a .332 BABIP last year. He's at .294 for his career. He might be good against lefties, but if this is your everyday third baseman, then that's some sorry ass s***. We're in for a lot more fun in 2013.

Can we get some apologies from the people who voted for Cabrera?

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 07:00 PM) A lot of anti Tiger bias here. Triple Crown winner, played in every game but one, I give it to Cabrera because of the Triple Crown. That is so tough to do these days. LOL All the usual suspects are backing Cabrera.

That's what you're banking on? other exhibits July 20 vs. Tigers Oct. 1, 2007 while Padres were just 1 game back You're telling me that Peavy strikes you as the type of guy who gets rattled when the pressure is on, like a Greinke or Javy Vazquez? Not buying it. Everybody has bad games when the pressure is on. It's not like San Diego was a perennial playoff contender, so he didn't get much of an opportunity to do anything. And just consider for a minute that you're being exactly like those people who criticize Frank Thomas for not being able to hit in the playoffs. -

None of that has anything to do with your original point. You're killing me, dude. You said that Peavy is no Buehrle based on their career stats, when in fact, Peavy waxes Buehrle pretty badly in significant categories like K/9, K-to-BB, WHIP, etc. When you're striking out a ton of folks and issuing very few walks, it doesn't really matter where you pitch, correct? You can't support your original statement, because it's ludicrous. If you really tried, it would be laughable. You'd probably even have the nerve to mention W/L records. -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 4, 2012 -> 12:02 AM) Didn't Friday night convince you enough? The most winnable game of the series. Yeah, I was convinced that Peavy is no Mark Buehrle because of the one game. I'm still waiting for you to say something that actually makes sense. -

QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 11:54 PM) To be fair, Jake Peavy turns into a quivering pile of Javy Vazquez when it's a big game. (12.10 career postseason ERA. .849 OPS against vs. the Tigers) That's 2 career starts in the playoffs. You might have a little sample size issue with that. Plenty of good pitchers get pounded by the Tigers. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 11:47 PM) To be fair, Jake has spent a large portion of his career in an inferior league in a ballpark tailor-made for pitchers. True, but it's still fairly obvious that he's the superior pitcher. -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 10:42 PM) I was speaking from a career reference. No kidding. FIP Jake Peavy: 3.49 Mark Buehrle: 4.14 WHIP Jake Peavy: 1.18 Mark Buehrle: 1.28 K/9 Jake Peavy: 8.75 Mark Buehrle: 5.09 K-to-BB Jake Peavy: 3.17 Mark Buehrle: 2.50 BAA Jake Peavy: .234 Mark Buehrle: .273 Peavy was looking like a hall of famer before he got injured. Nobody would ever mistake Mark Buehrle for an HOF caliber pitcher. Not even his own mother. The wallpaper comment was very clever, by the way. -

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 05:04 PM) If you look at Peavy's career stats he's no #54. Note to Kenny-no more $$$ on NL talent. Are you serious? Peavy easily bests Mark Buehrle on paper. Good god, man. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 07:38 PM) He's going to hit ~25 HR in his first full season in MLB and he's got a plus arm in the OF. He'll be a starter for a long time on a Major League roster. He's killing us with that .294 OBP. 25 HR is nowhere near enough to make up for it, and left field is not an important defensive position by any means. His walk rate has actually gotten worse since last year. That's not very encouraging. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 07:33 PM) And while the track record has been bad, if you actually did follow things, you'd see their whole approach and methodology has changed dramatically in the past few years. And some dividends are already coming out of that. Yeah, you said that before. Not buying it. And the big picture discussion is hitting talent. Kenny Williams is good at finding pitching, but it's all for not if Chris Young and Chris Getz are the best hitters you can draft in 11 years time. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) Kenny drafting them is not completely the problem though. Kenny loves those high upside guys. Reinsdorf does not like spending money. If you draft cheap high upside guys, you end up with the Mitchells, Thompsons, and Keenyn Walkers of the world. Competent GMs can find good hitters beyond the first few rounds of a draft. Also, he can't scout international hitters worth a s***. Alexei and Dayan both have poor plate discipline. The former can stay because of his defensive impact, but Tank is looking like a career scrub. The track record is inexcusable, and so is the lack of outrage on these here boards. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:37 PM) Who do you think is lying to themselves? I mean, you jump into this discussion, ask what people think and say you don't follow things much... then have apparently decided that everyone you asked is delusional and you obviously know better. Not many people will want to engage you in discussion if that is your style. I said I don't follow things much? I have access to fangraphs, just like everyone else. That's the beautiful thing about baseball. The numbers don't lie. There's not much to go on with Hawkins, but I figured that the consensus top prospect in the organization as voted on by Soxtalk members would at least have a shot at making someone's Top 100 prospects list. That was a leap of faith - I guess I should have known better. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) First off, he walks a lot so the numbers indicate problems with contact, not poor plate discipline. Second, Kenny doesn't do the drafting. He may provide input on the first couple picks, but it's not his responsibility to draft and develop players. According to his fangraphs page, he doesn't draw very many walks - a 9% BB rate is decent. He also strikes out in 30% of his at bats, which indicates to me that he's misjudging a lot of pitches. That's a pretty important aspect of plate discipline, is it not? You know, judging pitches? Again, a .240 batting average with a .320 BABIP. That's what he was able to accomplish in Single A. People have him down as our #2 prospect. That's great. When I say that Kenny sucks at drafting college/high school hitters, it should go without saying that I'm talking about him and his camp. -

QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Aug 20, 2012 -> 04:00 AM) Notice a trend? Keep in mind Trayce was considered very raw coming out of high school...he didn't concentrate on baseball until his Sr. year, IIRC. Add in his bloodlines, his ability to hit for power, field, run, and throw...he's a good prospect and getting better. While perhaps he is not a top 100 prospect right now, he isn't that far away and if he can continue the same growth in AA next year (I assume the Sox will send him back to B-ham) he certainly will, and maybe even crack the top 50. His numbers indicate very poor plate discipline. I've followed baseball long enough to know that it probably won't work out in the majors. Sorry, fellas. I guess that life is better when you lie to yourselves. If we're talking about high school/college hitters, Kenny is the blind squirrel that has yet to find even a single nut. Deny it all you want. It's the truth. -
