  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 09:21 PM) Exactly one of those guys was drafted earlier enough to matter. True, but it's still funny.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Now only if we could ever draft and develop our own. Are you not liking these draft picks: Kenny Williams Jr. Tyler Williams Ozney Guillen Harold Baines Jr. LOL at naming your kid Tyler. This guy needs to watch some George Carlin DVDs or something.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 08:19 PM) Which is probably why the rotation was set the way that it is was... No question.
  4. Well, at least he'll be going up against awful opposing starters in most cases. He's matched up against Armando Galarraga this Sunday, for instance. After that, he'll get to face a Royals scrub.
  5. QUOTE (EMONEY @ Aug 12, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) For a 4th/5th starter, Freddy's doing pretty well. There haven't been all that many games that he's given us absolutely no chance of winning. I think it's a mental thing right now, he'll be back at it in a week. Since the all star break, he's been pretty much the worst SP in baseball. 5 GS 22 IP 7.25 ERA 2.06 WHIP .374 BAA That's right, opponents are hitting .374 off of him in his last 5 starts. It's not a mental thing. It's an atrocious beyond words thing. Anybody that mentions his record should be kicked in the nuts.
  6. Markakis has been more disappointing since the start of '09 than just about anyone else I can think of.
  7. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 06:38 PM) Did Hawk just say that the fastest player he's seen down the first base line was Mickey Mantle? He's said it like a million times over the years.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 06:35 PM) Never realized that "stay in here" is Hawk's defensive version of "stretch" Are you serious?
  9. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) What are the Sox longterm plans for Sale? "Lefty one out" guy, reliever, starter? Take a wild guess, dude.
  10. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) No, Alexei doesn't walk enough or take enough pitches so I can't even watch him bat even though he's hitting about .390 the past few weeks. He had a .690 OPS coming into July. Now he's at like .760. Man, I can't contain my excitement!
  11. I love watching Viciedo murder the ball. All I'm asking for is one walk. Just one, man.
  12. Just trying to be positive here. I know it's some extreme cherry-picking. The American League ERA+ rankings going into September of 2009 looked something like this: 1. Greinke 200+ 2. King Felix 170+ 3. Edwin Jackson 150+ 4. Roy Halladay 140+ I did not read all 120 pages of the Edwin Jackson thread. I have no idea if people are looking at stuff like this.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) People keep talking about his lack of plate discipline. Is it really the case though or do people just like throwing around the term because nothing is more fun than finding something criticize and/or nitpick at? Nothing is more fun than finding something to criticize. You hit the nail on the head, man. But zero walks in 66 ABs has me somewhat concerned.
  14. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 2, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) Kinda stupid to not watch A-ram, he's been on fire lately. Hell yeah, Aramis Ramirez has been on fire lately. He put up a 1.006 OPS in July with 15 extra-base hits. Too bad that he plays for the wrong team! You suck, dude. Seriously though, I don't derive much pleasure out of watching Alexei Ramirez at bats. I'm not gonna apologize for it. It is what it is.
  15. I know that everyone hates the Edwin Jackson deal because of the money, but I'm fascinated by this dude. Not to cherry-pick numbers, but he had an ERA+ of more than 150 heading into September last year (through 26 starts). I can't wait until he makes his Sox debut.
  16. This guy's power potential is through the roof, but he has yet to draw even a single walk in 66 plate appearances. Between Viciedo, Ramirez, Pierzynski, Vizquel, and Pierre, we're talking about 75 walks in almost 1500 plate appearances. If you can't work counts and draw walks, then I'm not interested in watching your ABs, with few exceptions. Of course, I'm ecstatic about the Sox being 35-11 in their last 46 games, but still, thank god for DVR capabilities. I fast forward through the ABs of Ramirez, Pierzynski, Vizquel, Pierre, and Kotsay. I check out the Tank because he hits the ball so viciously, but I'm disgusted by his lack of plate discipline. I sit through Andruw Jones ABs because I'm fascinated by his utter stupidity & the fact that he has a perpetual smile on his face. He also has Stevie Wonder type moments when he swings and misses on breaking balls by like two feet. I guess you can say that I'm in it for the comedy. I thought he might actually have a bounce-back season based on early returns when he was crushing everything in sight, but he doesn't have a prayer against right-handed pitching at this point. An .870 OPS against left-handers is pretty cool, though. It's always a real bummer when I watch games with other people, because I have to sit through so many of these horse s*** at bats.
  17. Man, I can't wait until Konerko's Sox career is OVAH.
  18. On a positive note, at least I can find Beckham jerseys for outrageously low prices these days. Keep your head up - always look for the positives. I'm a glass-is-half-full type of guy.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) It already has. From this point forward, dun. Smarty pants.
  20. Don't worry, he's gonna wake up any day now. 37 extra-base hits in 300 post-July 1st ABs last season. No extra-base hits in his last 80 ABs. This s*** ain't gonna last for long.
  21. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ May 28, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) This season is a write-off, trade Thornton and/or Santos, who have substantial trade value. Keep Putz and Jenks, who dont, to mop-up this season, maybe compete for the rebuilding 2011 and move on. Given we are unfortunately going into a 1-2 year rebuilding phase, closer is not a priority... Oh god....
  22. Thornton and Santos are obviously the foremost monsters in our bullpen, and I see most people on this board clamoring for one of 'em, but I still think that Putz gets the gig. Thornton has established himself as perhaps the finest 8th inning reliever in the business, and it's still way too early to throw Santos into such a high pressure situation. I have a major hard-on for Santos, though. I'm not afraid to say that.
  23. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ May 26, 2010 -> 07:52 PM) Not buying it. I'm fine with analysis, but when it gets to "I know how these players feel" type arguments....sorry, you don't unless you are there. In my best Bill Cartwright voice: terrible
