QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 6, 2013 -> 02:21 PM) Dayan Vicideo sucks. Finally, a post that's worth reading in this cesspool of a thread.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 01:11 PM) can you actually give a reason why you think Trayce Thompson can never develop into a hitter or are you still stuck on repeat? This time next week, His Double A OPS could be under .700. That doesn't seem very promising.

QUOTE (Balta @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) People were comparing him to MCab the moment he came up. The odds of him ever reaching that level are obviously quite low, but I think I heard that comparison in his first game. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) Miguel Cabrera - 20 - AA - .365/.429/.609/1.038, 10.2% BB%, 16.2% K% in 303 PAs Avisail Garcia - 21 - A+/AA - .299/.333/.455/.789, 3.5% BB%, 18.5% K% in 513 PAs Even you can see how ridiculous that comparison is. The reason people compared them is because they look a hell of a lot alike. Both are 6'4'' and listed at 240 (Cabrera is a bit bigger than that now), both are Venezuelan, and both played for the Tigers. Their numbers are nothing alike. I'm hopeful he'll prove me wrong, but I have very, very strong doubts. I'm telling you. Balta hit his head. This isn't the same guy that posted here years ago.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 06:34 PM) Mods that change thread titles should be shot. Agreed.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 03:06 PM) numb nuts like Len Kasper Len Kasper is the s***. I'm thoroughly impressed by him every time he comes on Boers & Bernstein. You don't like Stone Pony either? Damn, son. What's up with that?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 24, 2013 -> 05:52 AM) Damn, platinum sombrero. That's impressive. Just think, if he does that like 20 more times in the next month, he might be able to hang with Courtney Hawkins.

You ever seen Little Big League? Baseball is hella complicated.

I'm reading that the Dodgers have dropped out of the Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez pursuit. Odd. Does this mean that the Cubs are now the most likely team to land him?
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 10:30 PM) Grimm is garbage. As a starter, perhaps. But maybe he'll turn out to be a nice bullpen piece.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) What exactly are the Cubs gonna do with Olt? 1st base is locked up, and if I am to believe the hype, Bryant should be in the majors at 3B very soon. Can he play in the outfield? One of Bryant/Olt will end up in left field. This trade was magnificent.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 05:47 PM) To me, Samardzija is a lesser version of prime Kerry Wood. The raw numbers will look incredibly similar, but it's an easier league to pitch in now, so we say lesser. Jeff just became a full-time starter last year. His FIP and xFIP exceed what Kerry Wood did in his prime, and their SIERAs are about even (3.40 range). SIERA Scale 2.75 = Excellent 3.25 = Great 3.75 = Above Average 3.90 = Average 4.20 = Below Average 4.50 = Poor 5.00 = Awful Take a wild guess as to where Jose Quintana resides. Somewhere between below average and poor. He's improving, though. I know, I'm just a hater.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 22, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Seeing how the Sox have developed hitters, it is just as likely that Buddy Bell has no idea what he is talking about. There ain't a farm director on the globe that could succeed with this horses***.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 03:55 AM) I'm not concerned about the individual player. The only thing that matters is winning the game. It's fun to discuss the individual player but not directly relevant to the team. The stats were invented for arbitration to get the players more money to say that they were good regardless of the team winning. Personally I enjoy watching the games and players. But in the end the only thing that matters for stats is wins and loses. Thanks, Hawk.

K-Dub apologists keep doing their thing, though. Don't Worry, Be Happy was a #1 jam. Damn, if I say it, you can slap me right here.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) I don't understand why his arm is "young" for his age. Did he ever stop pitching? What makes him different from anyone else that is 28? Because he only has 475 IP on the major league level. Only 53 career starts. I put his arm in the 25/26 age range. I want to put Sale at 21/22 (obviously, no minor league innings = less wear and tear), but I hesitate because of his gruesome throwing motion.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) You fall in love like a female, Jeffy is your new Tyson Chandler, haha. Not even 1/100 of the mancrush that I had on Tyson Chandler. I have no emotional investment in Jeffy. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) but he has a long way to go before he will be this elite pitcher you are seeing. When you say "elite", I think of guys like Sale, Kershaw, Verlander, Darvish, etc. Samardzija's upside is certainly not that. I'm thinking elite #2.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) This doesnt count because he is valuable and these innings were obviously not important so his arm didnt mind. Let's not be disingenuous. You argue like a female, haha. There is absolutely no question that Samardzija's arm is at least a couple years younger than his actual age. The same can be said for Sale, although he puts much more stress on his arm due to his odd throwing motion. The point is, you're on strict pitch counts & innings limits in the minors. You don't get overextended. 485 minor league innings is the equivalent of how many IP in the majors?
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) Do his minor league and college innings not count? Yes. Pee wee league counts too. But to be practical, we'll determine major league mileage by looking at major league innings. Valuable pitching prospects don't get ridden hard in the minors.
-
NO SNITCHING! This guy wouldn't last in Aaron Hernandez's old neighborhood (the mean streets of Bristol, Connecticut).

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 08:30 PM) FWIW, Jon Heyman says contending GMs see Peavy as a better get than Garza This makes sense is if contending GMs are viewing Garza as a strict rental. But Garza has 1100 career innings, whereas, Peavy is at 1900. That's a pretty enormous difference in mileage. But there's no question that Peavy is more valuable as far as this particular season is concerned. Side note - when wite was discussing Samardzija, he got hung up on his age (28) when he should have checked his career IP (475). So his arm is what, 25?
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 07:38 PM) The lack of plate discipline is alarming. There's not enough to go on. In the minors, these were his walk percentages (spread out over 162 plate appearances): 16.7% (Rookie Ball) 10.2% (High A) 9.0% (Double A) And now there are only 165 plate appearances to work with on the major league level. A 4.2% walk rate obviously sucks, but it's still based on an extremely small sample size. I'd be skeptical of people who hate for no reason whatsoever. What are their motives? People have fun watching this guy, and it pisses them off? It doesn't seem sane. Not that I'm a beacon of sanity.

Way to go, Jeff. Road stats: 10 GS 2.56 ERA 1.00 WHIP .194 BAA 9 K/IP 3.5 K/BB Going into St. Louis, Cincinnati, Colorado, etc and waxing the competition. If only his home stats matched up with what he did in 2012.

Jeffy baby finna get rocked tonight. I'll be praying for him.

Let's talk about Adam Dunn destinations
hammerhead johnson replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
wRC+ figures for all of the Sox hitters. Keppinger is the worst in the league if we're talking a minimum of 300 plate appearances. Jeff Keppinger 49 Tyler Flowers 63 Alexei Ramirez 78 Dayan Viciedo 82 Conor Gillaspie 82 Paul Konerko 83 Alex Rios 103 Alejandro De Aza 105 Adam Dunn 110 Gordon Beckham 114 Not much will to win as far as I can tell. -
Jeff Francouer and hOT fIRE? I thought this was a feel good thread.
