Your LEAST Favourite Beatle Song?
hammerhead johnson replied to Dan Pasqua's FedEx Driver's topic in SLaM
"Only A Northern Song" is actually one of my favorites, but it's cool. My least favorite Beatles track would have to be "Maxwell's Silver Hammer". -
I love Wisconsin. I usually go camping every year by Crystal Lake, which is about 15 miles from the Dells. The duck ride and the boat trip are mandatory. Other highlights include the Big Chief Go-Kart Park, that big ass miniature golf place right before the strip, the arcades, and the Paul Bunyon restaurant.

Here are the bootlegzone comments on the tracks that I have: One After 909 1:28 (1960) The earliest known version of a song that turns up many times throughout the Beatles career. Along with a slightly later 1960 version, there are two versions from the 1962 Cavern rehearsal tapes, several takes from the March 1963 EMI session and numerous versions from the 1969 Get Back sessions. It's interesting to trace the development of this song to discover that after trying several different arrangements the Beatles would eventually return to the same feel and approach that they use on this acoustic version when they finally issued the song on Let It Be in 1970. One After 909 2:25 (1960) Here's an electric version of "The One After 909" that was probably recorded sometime after the 1:28 version. Another enlightening glimpse at the development of this enduring Lennon/McCartney composition. One After 909 3:20 (1962) Rehearsal take 1 of 2. Recorded at The Cavern, Liverpool. Ringo has confirmed he's drumming. In the circumstances this probably places the recording between Aug, when Ringo joined the band, and mid Dec 1962.

You're gonna love the 63-64 compilation that I just put together. I'm also working on a 2CD set of jazz fusion covers of beatles tracks. I'm about 2/3 of the way through.

Yeah, me too. 13 of my top 15 feature Lennon vocals. Harrison is my favorite Beatle, though. Mostly for reasons aside from the music itself.

That's strange that Burkett would retire after starting 30 games for the Red Sox last year. He could still make damn good money pitching out of the bullpen.
-
I was thinking of Wakefield.

The Cardinals could win the division by 15 to 20 games when all is said and done, but if the Cubs win the wild card, Prior/Zambrano/Wood would be too much for the Cards to handle in the playoffs. I feel bad for that team. Their offense is superb. They have 4 or 5 gold glovers in their starting lineup. They have a hall of fame manager. But their starting pitchers and setup men will hold them back from advancing to the WS. This Cards team is essentially the same team as they had last year. They have failed to address their need for starting pitching. Unless they pick up an ace and a couple of relievers before the deadline, I can't see them going anywhere.

Nomar would make the Cubs a hell of a lot stronger in the short run, IMO. Their SS situation at the moment is horrible. I know that he's been somewhat ineffective this year, but he's still an all star caliber player, and he's only 31. But still, Hendry knows better than to make the Red Sox the foremost contender for the WS title, something that the Cubs were regarded as going into this season.

Your 1st Half White Sox Play of the Year

My favorite moment of the year, by far. -
Yeah, tell me about it. Let's say worst case scenario they meet up with the Cubs in the WS. Matchups w/ Johnson: Prior vs. Johnson Wood vs. Martinez Zambrano vs. Schilling Clement vs. Lowe Matchups w/out Johnson: Prior vs. Martinez Wood vs. Schilling Zambrano vs. Lowe Clement vs. Burkett The Cubs would probably be up 3-1 in the latter scenario. But with Johnson, The Red Sox could sweep. That is absolutely huge.
-
Nobody can handle Johnson/Martinez/Schilling in the playoffs. KW can't possibly be that dumb.

There's a partial 45 second acoustic version that I have of "We Can Work It Out". The liner notes state that Lennon recorded over it. They might be talking about the full version here, or perhaps a different acoustic take. In any case, I look forward to hearing it within the next two years. It usually takes a year or two for someone to put it out on bootleg.

Can I write check? -
I checked Pushkin's post history, and I found lines like "Yawnity Yawn" and "Who really cares about errors". So no, it's not Brando.
-
When Brando said that he likes to think of Base Ball as JimH or Texsox, I went and checked out Jim's writing style, and then it was like, you know.... DING DING DING DING DING DING
-
OH NO!! HE DROPPED THE BALL!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
You guys ain't even close. I know exactly who you're referring to, but it's not him.
-
Nobody could have won with those guys. That is the point. All stars are nice to have, but we're talking about 25 man rosters here. This ain't the NBA where a couple all stars in your starting lineup will take you places. That Rangers bullpen was beyond sorry. Same with Cleveland.

Where were you 25 years ago today?

I was only 8 months old, but even then, I hated disco music with a passion. I s*** you not. -
Well, what about the Texas Rangers of a couple years back? Pudge Rodriguez, Rafael Palmiero, Alex Rodriguez, Juan Gonzalez, etc. And that team absolutely SUCKED. Actually, all of those guys are hall of fame candidates.

The gong ain't nearly enough to satisfy me. They need to sample Mr. Miyagi in Karate Kid Part 1 when he's all s***faced and hollering "Banzai!!!!!!!" I want to hear "Banzai!!!!!!!!!!" immediately after the gong. Or beforehand. Whatever.
