  1. QUOTE(Misplaced_Sox @ May 25, 2006 -> 03:32 AM) I just got back from the game and I have to say I would rather have BA in center than MACK even if BA hits -1.000 and has to spot the other team runs... because lets face it MACK cannot field the CF position His defensive positioning is mind boogling, that dropped ball on Dye was 80% Mack's fault because he didnt talk to Dye to let him know where he was. It was awful. Dye was more wondering where the hell was Mack like most of the crowd. Dye was shading deep to right and Mack was right center.... he should have called that ball and took it down... dye had to make up so much space to make up for mack putird D it made me sick. Mack should never be in CF EVER. The Cf has to be a player and a QB.... like someone else said Cf is third most important defensive position behind P and C. I thought for a long while that maybe the TV angles and shots were unfair to Macks horrible D... after having the chance to see him in person I can say for definate that he is worse in Cf than pablo is in left And dont get me started on his arm Yep, I thought that we were going to lose after Mack straight up botched that s*** tonight. Normally, I'm not one to second-guess the manager, but FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, get Mackowiak the f*** outta there. If we're talking position players, you absolutely can not afford to have a defensive liability at C, SS, or CF.
  2. QUOTE(AbeFroman @ May 24, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) "I feel you'd have a much better chance of winning this game if you were anyone other than 2004 Brett Tomko. And to put that in perspective, I used to catch Kyle Lohse" I confused... did aj actually say that to Tomko? I can't really tell from the article... if AJ really said that, thats the funniest thing I've read in a long time... No, he didn't actually say that. The writer was trying to come up with something that Pierzynski could have realistically said to Tomko while in the process of preparing for a start. I thought that the article was outstanding. This Ethan Trex guy looks like he's 13 years old, but he's funny as hell.
  3. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 24, 2006 -> 08:29 PM) Its true, I just looked. 01 0-3 record at the Coliseum 1-5 record at home 02 0-6 record at the Coliseum 2-1 record at home 03 1-2 record at the Coliseum 3-3 record at home 04 1-5 record at the Coliseum 1-2 record at home 05 2-4 record at the coliseum 0-3 record at home Okay, 7-14 at home coming into this year, and 4-20 in Oakland. That sounds about right. Thanks for doing the research, dude.
  4. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 24, 2006 -> 07:33 PM) Since the end of the 2001 season, we are 8-9 against them. I was one game off. So sue me. We're 5-25 in Oakland since 2001? We have played 30 games in their stadium, and only 17 games at home? I don't know, I'm too lazy to actually look into this myself. Forget that I ever said anything.
  5. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 24, 2006 -> 04:11 PM) we also won the series May 3-5 2002 I would venture to say that we are at least .500 at home against them since 2001... Hey professor, your upside in the field of mathematics is through the roof! After looking at our 13-34 record against them since 2001, you think that we are at least .500 against them at home? So, you were thinking along these lines: 12-12 at home 1-22 on the road Does that sound right to you?
  6. QUOTE(RockRaines @ May 24, 2006 -> 02:29 PM) Anderson>Corey Patterson. A month of decent play doesnt make a player. We have seen what Corey Patterson is capable of, and that is a flailing mess at the plate. There is no denying that he was dreadful at the plate in 2005. His splits are a nightmare. I picked him up on my fantasy squad back in late April, and I figured that others in my league would call me an idiot. Here's the crazy part, though. He has almost as many SBs (15) as strikeouts (19) in 111 ABs. I'm thinking that he has 40 SBs in the bag this year, barring injury. And if he can continue to keep the strikeouts down, he could finish with a .280+ AVG and a .340+ OBP. And as far as his defense is concerned, I can assure you that he is not pitiful. His reads aren't spectacular, but they're respectable. And his recovery speed is unbelievable. BA blows him out of the f***ing water, obviously, but Patterson is not a bum out there with the glove. He is most definitely an above average defensive CF, all things considered. As Sox fans, we have ridiculous standards, what with Rowand and Anderson.
  7. QUOTE(WCSox @ May 24, 2006 -> 04:32 AM) Wilson Alvarez, Roberto Hernandez, and Danny Darwin for Mike Caruso, Keith Foulke, Bob Howry and, IIRC, three others. You forgot about the best prospect in the 100+ year history of the Chicago White Sox organization: Lorenzo Barcelo BTW, do the Giants enjoy getting ass-raped? That trade is crazy enough, but Nathan/Liriano/Bonser for AJ Pierzynski? Good God. Talk about retarded.
  8. Word. That boy is nice.
  9. QUOTE(Nokona @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:35 PM) I'd rather have a pre injury Mantle or that Mays guy...he was supposed to be pretty good in the outfield Haha, yeah. Mays f***ing owns him, obviously. Just a brain cramp on my part. A while back, there was an article in Baseball Digest about Dimaggio's ability to read the ball off of the bat, and it basically said that he was/is the best ever. Just a defensive monster. He also had more HR than strikeouts over the course of his career. I'd take him over pre-injury Mantle.
  10. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) And the all praise Frank opinions aren't played out? Meh, Big Frank is just a deadhorse for Sox fans as far as I am concerned. Yeah, but people are just trying to celebrate the return of a guy who wore a White Sox uniform from 1990-2005. That's New Kids On The Block to Nick Lachey? We've come a long way. Basically, there is a time and a place for s***-talking, and this ain't it.
  11. QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 06:58 PM) Sorry to interupt the warm and fuzzy with an opinion. Your opinion is tired. We've been over all of this s*** time and time again. Now you're just being an attention whore.
  12. QUOTE(knightni @ May 23, 2006 -> 03:38 PM) Gold Gloves and All Star appearances are both popularity contests. You know that. That's true, but Ozzie was never an offensive force. He made it to all of those All Star games and won all of those consecutive gold gloves almost entirely on the strength of defensive prowess. The same applies to Brooks Robinson, who was a career .267 hitter. I would almost be tempted to put both players on my All-Time team, and get my offense elsewhere, because NOTHING would be getting through on the left side of the infield. Yeah, I'll take it: 1. Ty Cobb RF 2. Rogers Hornsby 2B 3. Ted Williams LF 4. Babe Ruth DH 5. Lou Gehrig IB 6. Willie Mays CF 7. Johnny Bench C 8. Brooks Robinson 3B 9. Ozzie Smith SS And Joe Dimaggio was a monster defender in CF, so that's why I have him in the OF instead of guys like Hank Aaron and Barry Bonds. EDIT: Never mind, Willie Mays is in there over Dimaggio.
  13. QUOTE(chiguy79 @ May 23, 2006 -> 06:01 PM) Maybe Frank could work in PR or marketing and make house calls to season ticket holders...he probably needs to work off his debt to JR anyways... Wasn't it an advance on his salary? QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:29 AM) Sorry...while I've always appreciated Frank's contributions to the White Sox...the guy just never "won me over" like players such as Dick Allen, Fisk, and even such as guys like AJ and Crede have right now. Not sure what it is...I don't want to come out and say it's his seemingly, "I'm a f***in selfish baby attitude"...because I don't even know him personally. All anybody really knows is what they've read of him in the newspapers and heard on tv...and I've interpreted much of it as being a selfish baby. A few things in here I found amusing...but the biggest was: I could actually here KW say, "Pffffffffffft...fat f***in chance..." all the way out here in Phoenix. I also like how Frank makes reference of himself growing up. BOUT f***IN TIME FRANK...you're only gonna be 38 sometime this year! So forgive me if I'm not all warm and fuzzy about Frank... thanks for your contributions to the Chicago White Sox Frank...but honestly I don't miss you in the least bit. If I was at the game...*golf claps* is the best you woulda got outta me. QUOTE(Wanne @ May 23, 2006 -> 05:07 PM) What can I say...I was very young and impressionable. I highly doubt it ever comes down to a "choice" and hope that it doesn't come to the point where KW can't get past all this and says, "him or me..." if Frank wanted a position within the organization. I think that is the only way Frank wins out over Kenny...by KW walking. So let me get this straight Steff....you think reason that KW got the job was he was a minority and there was an opening for a uppermanagement position? I think it may have helped a little...but there's no way in hell that JR hires a person for a GM on the basis of race. The man had to have shown he was very capable and looking back, he was the correct choice over Evans (much to the dismay of many). I'm sure Frank "expects" a job in the orginization...why am I not surprised. And again, it's impossible to have a Frank thread around here without some knucklehead trying to ruin it.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 22, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) La Russa ran Ozzie outta town for Royce freaking Clayton, and he continues to be a douche about the whole thing. I'd be pissed too if I was Ozzie to be honest. And before you call me a hypocrite people, if in 10 years Ozzie Guillen says stuff like this about Frank not being welcome I'll rip on his ass too. But it's one thing for an injured Frank to be rut outta here for Thome, but Royce Clayton?? Eh, in 1996, Royce Clayton was a nice up-and-coming 26 year old player, and Ozzie Smith was already 42 years old. If you remember, Royce even made it to the All Star game in 1997. At the time, there was no way of knowing how Clayton's career would progress post-1996, but inserting him into the starting lineup was a no-brainer. QUOTE(knightni @ May 22, 2006 -> 05:46 PM) Ozzie Smith = overrated. There. I said it. 15 All-Star Game appearances, 12 straight gold gloves, etc. He was arguably the greatest defensive SS in baseball history. You know that you cherish his Padres Rookie Card.
  15. Allegedly, according to reports on the Score, Joey Cora bit Jacque Jones. I haven't seen anything posted about it here, though.
  16. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ May 21, 2006 -> 03:53 PM) So he did say "b****"? Aww... I would've put money on "AAA s***". AAA piece of s***. That's the hardest-hitting phrase.
  17. QUOTE(Jimbo @ May 20, 2006 -> 09:13 PM) The cubs really awoke a sleeping giant, thanks Dickweek Hell yeah, dickweek.
  18. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 20, 2006 -> 09:07 PM) If I called in and said I was Jesus Christ, would you be convinced I was He? Good point.
  19. QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 20, 2006 -> 09:05 PM) Dave Roberts. I thought that it was Bip Roberts.
  20. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ May 20, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Drunk yes. But I'm not convinced that is Bernie. They introduced him as BERNIE MAC. Is that not enough evidence for you?
  21. We gotta get Gooch up there with the bases juiced. As I type this, there is a "Wrigleyville Sports" ad on the top of this page. Nice.
  22. QUOTE(ptatc @ May 20, 2006 -> 04:12 AM) This is always a way I think about it also. However, there are some excetions. Nolan Ryan for example. Should he be in the Hall of Fame? He was never the best pitcher in any given year. No Cy Youngs. His average record for his career is barely over .500. While he holds the record for most strikeouts he also holds the record for most walks in a career. From these numbers I don't know but the BIG thing to put it over the edge is the no-hitters. I'd actually say that his 55 MLB records would put him over the edge. Some of my favorites: Most strikeouts, major leagues: 5714. Most strikeouts, season, major leagues: 383, California, 1973. Most years, 200 or more strikeouts, major leagues: 15. Most years, 300 or more strikeouts, major leagues: 6. Most times, 15 or more strikeouts, game, major leagues: 26. Most times, 10 or more strikeouts, game, major leagues: 215. Most times, 10 or more strikeouts, game, season: 23, California 1973. Three strikeouts, inning, on nine pitches: 2 (tied). Most consecutive strikeouts, game, American League: 8 (tied, did it twice). Most strikeouts, two consecutive games, major leagues: 32 (tied, 13 and 19, 17 IP). Most strikeouts, three consecutive games, major leagues: 47 (19, 9, and 19, 27.1 IP). Most clubs shut out, season, major leagues: 8, California, 1972. (tied) Highest strikeout average per nine innings, career: 9.55 (5714 strikeouts in 5387 innings). Lowest hits allowed average per nine innings, season: 5.26, California, 1972, 166 hiys, 284 innings. Lowest hits allowed average per nine innings, career: 6.55 (3923 hits in 5387 innings). Most no-hitters pitched, major leagues: 7. Most one-hit games, career, major leagues: 12 (tied). I also read in Baseball Digest that he holds the record for most two-hitters, but I can't find any specific information online because the internet f***ing sucks. What you are looking at is a monster, ptatc. An absolute f***ing monster.
  23. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ May 19, 2006 -> 05:48 PM) I have a 1917 replica wool jersey, but I'm not pulling that badboy out until Sunday. Damn that jersey is awesome though. How much did you pay, and where did you get it? I want one of those 70s button-down cauliflower blue colored jerseys. Any idea where I could find one, other than an auction site?
  24. QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ May 19, 2006 -> 04:55 PM) Lemme know when Detroit is capable of even WINNING A GAME against a real team. There are no real teams in the AL West? Cleveland and Minnesota are not good teams? Who looks at a club's record and takes a definitive stance as to how good they are in freaking May?
  25. Happy Birthday, man.
