  1. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 08:46 PM) Brand is a much better defender. I'd rather have the much better defender and the vasty better scorer over a player who will never achieve the potential you seem to think he will. If you think that Brand has the tools to be the better defensive player when all is said and done, I can't argue with you. We're talking about a 7'1 player with freakish agility, leaping ability, and wingspan vs. a guy who is barely 6'8 with not much of a wingspan, limited leaping ability, etc. Have some foresight. Of course it's all about potential and upside. Now, why you're emphasizing this is beyond my understanding. This is the NBA. It's always about how good a guy can be in the future. We're talking about a guy who just turned 23. Otherwise, there wouldn't be anything to discuss. You want me to sit here all day and point out the obvious? Brand can't take over games defensively, nor will he ever be able to. He just doesn't have that type of skillset. I thought that was obvious, but I dunno, maybe it's just me. I like Brand too, but I'll go with the guy who has a chance to be a legendary defender. I know that you don't understand, so don't even bother responding.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 07:28 AM) I'm sorry but that just made me laugh, really. Haha, yeah. You're not alone. Whatchoo talkin' bout, Jordan4Life? Our depth at WR is embarassing.
  3. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) soooo... Baltimore was good until they played bad? So basically they just werent good enough to make the playoffs? That would make them a bad team, or NOT a playoff team. Rock, that is it in a nutshell. They were good until they started playing bad. Nope, Chen was not the second coming of Sandy Koufax after all!
  4. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) Toronto would've been a better team than us next year if we didn't make any moves. They get Halladay back for a full year, with Burnett, with Chacin(a year under his belt), with Ryan, and with Overbay. This is a load of crap, too. Chacin ain't nothing special. He would be a relief pitcher for us assuming that we kept the same precise starting staff as last year. Perhaps you also forgot about our superior bullpen and defense up the middle last year, but then again, I would expect as much from you.
  5. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) Baltimore was until Raffy f'd up, their pitching went down the sh*tter and they didn't want to make the proper moves for a strong run. You're telling me if that team is any other divisions minus the AL Central or East, they don't make the playoffs? I'll beg to differ. They would've made it in any of the other ones. Come on, Baltimore had a pathetic starting staff last year. That was apparent right off the bat. You were trying to tell me that Cabrera and Chen were gonna lead them to the playoffs, remember? I know that you remember. Like I said before, I don't know where you get your baseball thoughts, or who influences you to think along these lines, but something is just horribly wrong.
  6. Brand is an all star, but Tyson could be the top shot-altering force in this league and one of the best rebounders when he peaks within the next few years. I get tired of preaching this s***, though. Just to reiterate for like the millionth time, common themes in sports for championship squads: Baseball: Defense (Primarily Pitching) Football: Defense and a defensive style of offense (rushing) Hockey: Defense (Goalies rule all) Basketball: Defense (Primarily shot-altering big men, not dudes pushing 6'8) This s*** ain't rocket science. Look at the history of every one of the major four sports. Defense prevails in the vast majority of cases. If you're a student of sports, you know what it takes to win. Tyson could be the central force behind a championship squad at some point. Brand will never be that player, despite the impressive numbers. He doesn't have a sizeable defensive impact on a game unless you think that stat sheets reveal as much? You don't look at paper, you evaluate players with your eyes. Worst trade in Bulls history LOL? Give me a f***ing break. That said, I'd love to have Elton Brand on my team, but I think Tyson has a chance to be a legendary defender. I'll take that over Brand's upside 365 days a year. Keep your scoring. I know that it's entertaining to watch. I'm just interested in winning championships -- silly me.
  7. Don't worry, Murcie. Anybody who knows the game of basketball realizes the importance of defense and rebounding. You win with hard-working players like Tyson Chandler, not Eddy f***ing Curry. I've come across plenty of dumbass basketball fans in my life, and nitetrain is no exception.
  8. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:37 PM) All the teams were getting better, we couldn't afford to just stand pat. Hell, Toronto would've been a better team than us. Yeah, okay. Remember when you were telling me that Baltimore was a playoff team last year? I don't know how you go about evaluating teams, but something is just horribly wrong.
  9. This thread is f***ing cashed. GOOD GOD
  10. QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) Seriously though, I loved the 2005 team and will remember them forever. But being sentimental is a terrible policy when it comes to running a baseball team. I realize that some were attached to the players on last years team...I'm with you there. Hell, it hurt me when Geoff Blum left. But in the end, while I know its cliche (too drunk to find the correct spelling), I root for the name on the front of the jersey and not the one on the back. And to me, it seems quite obvious that KW significantly upgraded the team. And if Thome, Vazquez and Mackowiak perform to their capabilities, I will like them every bit as much as I liked the guys we just sent packing, if not more. The great teams never rest on their laurels. In a perfect world, the 2005 guys would all come back and win it all again. But in the real world of baseball, you have to keep making yourself better, no matter how good you are. Its as simple as that. Either way, its not like we've completely dismantled the team. Most of the guys will be back. And if they win, which they have a better chance of doing IMO, it won't take you long to warm up to them. See, this is a perfect response. Well done.
  11. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 07:01 AM) no one knows darren lewis k how bout lance johnson One Dog ain't obscure, man. MIKE HUFF
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:44 AM) You don't remember "The Little Hurt"? Of course. I was just making fun of his spelling skills.
  13. Damn, that's messed up about Tyson's knee. It was a hustle play, for those who missed the game. Tyson was going after a rebound and landed on Songalia, who had just taken a dive in the paint for reasons that I still can't figure out. Darius is just a goofy-ass motherf***er, but he is also the best shooter on the team and a damn good passer, so I can't talk too much s***.
  14. QUOTE(ThomeOnTheRange @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) Did anyone hear Charles Barkley being so f#$%ing racist on ESPN1000 this afternoon. That guy is pathetic. I'll try to get a link to his conversation cause I'm sure it will show up tomorrow. This guy hates white people. You have established yourself as a terrible poster right off the bat. Congratulations.
  15. QUOTE(knightni @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:36 AM) Craig Grebeck. Are you sure? I thought he said Graig Grebek.
  16. QUOTE(traydragen @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:34 AM) Graig Grebek Who in the f*** is that?
  17. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 06:31 AM) ron karkovice Ugliest White Sox player EVER. SPANKY LAVALLIERE
  18. QUOTE(TLAK @ Dec 15, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) He is bringing in some big names to replace them but I miss my guys. Even though I like the moves that Kenny has made thus far, I can see where you're coming from. I have no idea why people are flipping out, though. So what, the dude is sentimental. Don't let that stop you from responding with some classless nonsense.
  19. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 09:54 PM) Iverson single handedly lead his team to the NBA Finals. Now he's taken over as the team's point guard aswell. Come on. That was a deep defensive squad with the legendary Dikembe Mutombo, Raja Bell, Eric Snow, George Lynch, etc. Larry Brown as head coach? That team could defend you, and then some. That's the only reason why they made it into the Finals. Iverson is an atrocious team player. He can't take a team anywhere unless he is completely surrounded by defensive-minded individuals in an iron-clad defnsive system, and even then, his flair for the dramatic on the offensive end is just crap IMO. Pippen by a mile unless you're a casual fan.
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 10:03 PM) A superstar wouldn't have taken 1 shot in a 4th quarter as his team was choking away a 15 point lead in a game 7 against the Lakers in 2000. A superstar is a guy that can take over a game at any time, a guy that you want with the ball in his hands to get you a big bucket at the end of a game. There's a reason that Scottie is known as the "sidekick". Some take that as an insult. Hell, Kevin Mchale and James Worthy are two of the best "sidekicks" ever. That's the class I would put Pippen in. And as i'm sure you know, Mchale and Worthy are both hall of famers. The Bill Russell comment is not even worth responding to. LOL, why not? Was Bill Russell the guy that you wanted with the ball in his hands at the end of a game? I don't think so. And what about Dennis Rodman, the greatest defensive PF of all time? He wasn't a superstar because he wasn't a scoring option? Yeah, right. Your views are that of a casual fan, a Mike North or someone like that who knows a little about a lot of things, but not really enough to go in depth about anything in particular. No offense, but that's just what I've observed for close to two years now. For instance, the fact that he was the greatest defensive SF EVER and arguably the greatest transition player EVER doesn't really register. There is a reason he was known as a sidekick? Really now, how many championships would Jordan have had without Pippen?
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) First of all, Pippen was not a superstar. He was a great player, no doubt, but never, ever in the same catergory of Michael, Magic, Bird, Hakeem, ect. Anyway, congrats to Scottie on a wonderful career. He's, imo, the greatest perimiter defender in the history of the game. If you're the greatest defensive SF since the 60s and perhaps the greatest transition player of all time, you're without question a superstar. Next thing I know, you'll be saying that Bill Russell wasn't a superstar because he couldn't take over games on the offensive end. In today's game, you'd probably say that Allen Iverson is a superstar. Meanwhile, Pippen is/was so much more valuable than that dude that it isn't even funny.
  22. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) I really don't see where Graffanino helps this club any more than either of the other two. It would be nice to have a reliable pinch hitter, though. I suppose that Tony would be just a one-trick pony, but every team needs a John Mabry or Lennie Harris.
  23. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Far from my favorite Lennon song - it's lauded up as an amazing piece of songwriting when it reality, it's oversimplistic, poorly produced and lyircally far from his best. I agree, and I'm a huge John Lennon fan.
  24. Check it out, these lyrics are like Karate Kid SDTK material.
