  1. "I don't know that we have the luxury of waiting two to three months for somebody to kick in because we can't let this league or this division get away from us," Ricciardi - Per CBSSportsline.com That doesn't seem like a valid excuse. Thomas is infamously a slow starter. A lot of sluggers start slow. Ryan Howard was hitting .222 after two months last season and still ended up with close to 150 RBI. I'm not saying Frank is Ryan Howard at this point in his career, but that's terrible front office management on the Blue Jays side if this is their excuse for sitting/releasing him. If they're worried about the gap in the division getting wider, bring in some talent that can truly compete with the Yankees and Red Sox. I'm not pleading Frank's innocence here, I'm calling the Blue Jays stupid. They'll love it in 35 days when Matt Stairs can't hit a lick. It was only two years ago Frank finished 4th in the MVP balloting. Last year he finished 23rd. Effing bad player management all around from the Jays.
  2. QUOTE (max power @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 02:04 PM) Have AJ bat 3rd then? We need a lefty somewhere in the 3 or 4 spot, I think. Also I think it works better when a lefty bats 6th because our typical 7th, 8th, and 9th hitters are all righties. You wouldn't want your 6th batter to be a righty too. If Owens is up, I do a sort of platoon job in the 3 slot with Swisher and Dye. (Not the traditional platoon with fielding position as well.) Tough to do this, though, when Quentin is playing so well. I wouldn't want to take AB's away from him. But, of course, when Swisher bats 3rd you can put Quentin at the top. That does make for a R vs. R matchup to start the game, though. Either way, I do think there are options.
  3. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 07:42 AM) despite his event-ness... if Jerry Owens could get a .400 OBP and have at least some slugging..... i'd bench Thome and get Swisher lower in the lineup. Makes us faster, and Swisher can have Thome's power numbers (especially in the Cell) if he decides to have the mindset he had in 06. not something to worry about, though, b/c Owens isnt that. Swisher can't put up Jim Thome numbers. Not even late in his career Jim Thome numbers. I'd stop watching and listening to the Sox this year if they benched Thome for Owens. I mean, in limited action last season Thome still hit 35 home runs and drove in 96. I'd almost put money on it that Swisher and Owens combined don't reach either of those totals. I love Swish, but he doesn't bring to the table what Jim Thome brings. That said, Thome doesn't bring to the table what Swisher does. Either way, there aren't many players (if any) in the White Sox organization right now that are worth playing over Thome. The Sox knew it when they brought him in, it's feast or famine with big Jim. There's only one thing I'd do with Big Jim for the rest of the year. Drop him to #5 in the order.
  4. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 18, 2008 -> 08:29 PM) Yeah, you might be able to do that. But if I'm BD, I don't think I'd make that offer. I don't think the gain in quality is worth the good innings you lose. If those innings are replaced by more Gil Meche -- eh, no thanks. I understand what you're saying, I think I just expect more out of Smoltz and Rivera than you. I still like my solution better. Smoltz and Rivera aren't going anywhere. Smoltz can put up 200+ K if he finds a way to pitch all year. And though he started the year on the DL, he's pitched 200+ innings the past 3 seasons. Even if I end up with only 180 IP out of Smoltz, I'll be pleased. I'm also totally fine with Rivera. Especially with the early success he's having this year. Him and Smoltz aren't the one's I need to worry about. It's Hoffman and Cordero. I'm trying hard to deal off Meche, but he's not getting any innings with my team. If I can't trade him, he's dropped for Kazmir. I'm more than pleased with a 1-2 punch of Smoltz/Kazmir. But, later in the year I'm going to have to consider trading one of them for a more stable horse.

QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 19, 2008 -> 12:35 PM) Anything on TLC or the History channels are a great watch on HD.American chopper is damn good. Agree with that, though I'm not sure I want to put American Chopper on there. Discovery, TLC and History are tough channels. It's hard to know what is good and what is not. Can anyone vouch for that universe show (what's the name of it?) on the History Channel? I see people listed The Office. I'm just not a fan of it. I'm thinking about adding Oz to the list. I also want to avoid shows that have to be watched in sequence. (I.E. Lost)

    TV Shows

I'm downloading a ton of TV shows and putting them on a HD. The HD will connect to one of my TV inputs and run the shows 24 hours a day through a random play list. It is the ultimate TV channel. I'm looking for suggestions of TV shows worth putting on there, both new and old. So far my list is: Seinfeld Curb Your Enthusiasm It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Fawlty Towers Scrubs South Park (Seasons 1-5) Lucky Louie Deadliest Catch Survivor Man Chapelle's Show Family Guy (Seasons 1-3) Entourage What am I missing besides Arrested Development?
  8. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:24 AM) How about they mow his stache into the outfield grass? Somebody get on the horn and e-mail Brooks.
  9. QUOTE (G&T @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 03:28 PM) Did MacDougal go somewhere? Down the toilet. That's where I'd put him.
  10. QUOTE (jackie hayes @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 07:29 AM) No... Smoltz and Rivera are still producing and Hoffman would be a fire sale. Depends on the size of the league (is it roto?), but I wouldn't miss Meche or Blanton much. Low-strikeout pitchers, and I still don't trust Meche, good year or not. Try a package swap, or you could try to trade for a better pitcher who's injured, someone you can stash on the DL -- Meche or Blanton for Pedro (who'll be out for a while), Wilson for Rafael Soriano. Maybe even Cordero for Soriano -- depends how worried you are about his velocity. And then if you can't get a good trade, I'd drop Meche, personally. I like your ideas. I went ahead and offered Wilson for Soriano, though I don't figure that one to go through. The owner of that team is pretty smart. And Blanton and Meche for Lackey.
  11. Shame on the people who voted no. Big Frank never ran the bases like Jose.
  12. When Kazmir comes off the DL, I'm going to have to drop a pitcher. I can't decide. Right now my pitching staff is struggling. In terms of points (roto) I have 3.5/10 points for W, 7 for S, 5 for K, 3 for ERA, 2 for WHIP. I'm pretty far behind the leader in all categories except wins. Already 8 back in saves. My staff looks like this: Smoltz, Blanton, Weaver, Ol. Perez, Meche, M. Rivera, Hoffman, Ch. Cordero, Brian Wilson, Kazmir (DL). Feel like the smart drop is between Wilson and Meche. For some reason I want to drop Blanton but I don't think I have the guts. If I keep Wilson and Cordero rebounds, I feel like I can be right up there in saves (if Wilson keeps his job). ERA and WHIP are really killing the team as a whole. Weaver, Smoltz and Rivera are the only three with respectable numbers in WHIP. I might also consider packaging Weaver/Blanton, Weaver/Perez, Blanton/Perez and get a more balanced starter. But it might take a fool to get that done. Taking WHIP into account, Blanton/Perez is the group I want to get rid of. I don't think I could pawn off Meche on anyone right now.
  13. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 01:45 AM) Probably just people who think he deserves two statues. Hahahha And on a side note: Thanks for moving it back, mods/admins.
  14. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Apr 15, 2008 -> 02:05 PM) I'll add double chains to the one I've got couped up in my basement. Feed it dog food. That'll stick it to him.
  15. Why the f*** was this moved to the diamond club? It's obviously White Sox content. I deserve an explanation.
  16. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) He is off the plate with an open stance, trying to park every pitch onto the fundamentals area. Its not hard to see how he would struggle with low and away pitchers, and those with a changeup or a slider. What you see is why he was traded from the Rockies. Rockies?
  17. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Apr 11, 2008 -> 11:23 AM) It was April, 2000. It bonded that team together, IMO. I remember Maggs and Bill Simas both going nuts in that brawl. Also, it made me and probably every other Sox fan hate Robert Fick. Maggs throwing karate kicks was the highlight of those two brawls. I was at that game. What a great time.
  18. QUOTE (CryptviLL @ Apr 8, 2008 -> 11:07 PM) I think the facial hair is fine, Swishers + Bobby's looks very normal.. Can't say much about Boone's tho.. If anything, Boone's looks the most normal. Jenks' is crooked as hell. Swisher, I don't know what the f*** he was thinking. At least Boone's used to be a style at one point in time. They all look ridiculous and will never compare to Rocky Biddle.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 9, 2008 -> 09:35 AM) frankly, i can't believe anyone is really arguing that they shouldn't wear a patch or the number. Jackie Robinson breaking the color barrier was arguably the biggest event/symbol of social change and civil rights in this country's history. There is absolutely a need to remember it. Does having JR day celebrate and remember it? Of course. Does wearing his number further increase awareness, remembrance, and celebration? I think it sure does. How is that a bad thing? What is the downside of wearing it? I can understand the arguements that everyone wearing it may somehow "diminish" the meaning of it (which I don't buy into, but at least i can understand) but your stance i just dont get. Your arguement is basically saying, we do enough by tipping our cap at the start of the game, but I ask you this, is it such a big deal for everyone to wear 42? You have to understand the cultural significance this event has, and I suppose I just don't get why someone would want to only "tip their cap," when wearing the number celebrates the event, honors Jackie, and may increase awareness of it, and is extremely easy to do. Whats the downside to iit???? Heaven forbid that you should have to watch a game where everyone is wearing a patch for 3 hours! God they are really throwing that in your face! I hate it when great moments in history that represent triumph over struggle and ignorance positively influence everyone in the country! I believe his number is hanging in every stadium around the park already. Sometimes it can be overkill to put more frosting on the cake. I'm not saying my stance is to simply tip your cap, as has been said, but I don't think the day has to be a suck fest. I think the way it is now -- let people choose if they want to wear the number -- is about best it can get. The only thing that puts a dark light on things like this, when players (Hunter) brings race into who wears it and who doesn't. It's a day of celebration. Not a reminder of USA's history.
  20. Downgrade to XP. Consider adding Kaspersky as protection if she's had virus problems in the past. It's really the best anti-spyware/virus/firewall protection you can buy. One of the few (maybe only?) that has EVERY noted threat out there. And they update their threat protection list daily.
  21. I think the White Sox should honor him by scoring 42 runs. Where's that vote option?
  22. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 5, 2008 -> 12:05 PM) BINGO! That in a nutshell has been a number of conversations we've had as mods and admins and wondering what, or even if, we should do something about it. Years ago, I wondered why a Sox forum would ban specific topics, like attendance or Mariotti. While attendance has not been a cantankerous issue here, there are many times I wish we would ban Crede/Fields threads and Mariotti myself. We have some people who come here to complain and some who come here to feel better about being a Sox fan. perhaps those two are at odds to each other and each need separate space. I think having the catch-all positive/negatives thread was a good start. I've spent more time in the off-topic boards the past year and a half because the glass is always half empty here. I think that too many negative posts are dedicated to certain players, or management decisions, etc. I'm not calling for this to stop, but it is part of the reason I spend more time on the off-topic portions of the board. After games, I see a lot of new threads that are generally the same. I think the mods/admins should clean this up and combine them. And then retitle the post topic to know what's being discussed inside and also make it the "Official" thread of said discussion. If anyone makes a new topic that belongs inside that post, just put it in there. Maybe to guide some of this energy toward certain players, just set up a sub forum. Each Sox player gets their own thread. Whatever needs to be said or argued about the player... put it in that players thread. I like this idea because I personally don't like to see five Juan Uribe threads and twelve Joe Crede threads -- usually with the same argument over and over again. To bring some togetherness back, I'd like to propose an idea. Make debate teams. Make a sign up thread. Make teams from that. Have a new Sox topic to debate each week and allow teams one opening statement, two rebuttles, a closing statement and then open it up to the field.
