QUOTE(Middle Buffalo @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 01:45 PM) Boring movie. No way. This is another movie written by Nick Cave, and if none of you know of Nick Cave, he's the baddest ass lyricist, singer in the music business. The Proposition may not have the "classic" shootout scene, but that's what makes it good. It breaks the trend and the cliches. It may move at a slower pace, but it's all well worth it. It has plenty of tension, plenty of conflict and did a fine job of keeping my interest.
  2. QUOTE(Jenksismyb**** @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 08:16 AM) I think this is an adequate addition to the series, but I dunno, I'm so pissed at Nintendo for not upgrading their technology with the Wii. I love Nintendo games, but I'm a technology nerd so my ps3 has takin over. I got Twilight Princess for the Gamecube and beat the first two temples but haven't picked it up since because I've been stuck playing NBA 2k7 and Resistance. When I tried to play it again on the cube the graphics were terrible. According to Gamespot, the Wii version graphics are practically the same. I don't understand why Nintendo wouldn't upgrade their next gen console just a little. Gameplay > Graphics Twilight Princess offers nothing that the previous games offer, that's my big beef with it. Every new game has offered something different.

QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 09:11 AM) because they're more likely to enjoy fiction? I would think history buffs would pass out from all of the false logic and assumptions that the movie/book makes. What's wrong with fiction? I write fiction! But I back you on the second statement. Well informed fiction is where it's at. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 01:07 PM) Great success. Who doesn't like a president who enjoys a good porn?
  5. QUOTE(T R U @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 01:30 AM) wow your list disgusts me.. Windwaker was terrible 1. Majoras Mask 2. Ocarina of Time Until I get to play twilight princess thats the list Ditto, Majora's Mask was easily the worst of the series. A Link to the Past and Windwaker have the best sidequests and the largest maps. Ocarina of time had a pretty big map too and some good sidequests, but it was the easiest of all that I've played. A Link to the Past is the only of them all with a challenging final boss.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 09:12 PM) Saw the movie "Closer" today. Very good. Very, very good. Mike Nichols will never, ever...ever, never, ever be able to match The Graduate. I thought it was decent, but I loathe Julia Roberts. I like Natalie Portman, but that wasn't enough I guess.
  7. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 07:28 PM) So is this the best adventure sort of game anyone has played over the past couple of years? I'm debating b/w buying a Wii or a XBOX360 right now FWIW. It's certainly a good game, but stacking up against the other Zelda titles, it's a bit weaker. The map isn't very large, there doesn't seem to be a lot of exploration to do -- and if there is any, it's not fun. I'd stack up the top 3 Zelda's as such: 1. A Link to the Past 2. Windwaker 3. Ocarina of Time
  8. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 06:40 PM) I am stuck in the first temple. So far I have released three of the monkeys but I don't know where to go with them. They tell you where to go. If they don't, the key is to search every room that you can. Eventually you'll find a key or a puzzle that will get things going again.
  9. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 05:15 PM) The bar in the castle, where Ilia or w/e her name is (the pink scent)? Yep. I believe there is one in or around that bar.
  10. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 03:49 PM) I'm too lazy to find the Wii thread. My bro got this for GC for Christmas. I'm assuming it's the same game on the two systems. I just started playing it this week, and I'm getting pretty hooked. But I'm at a frustrated point; I've beaten two of the Twilight Worlds (Forest and Death Mountain). I'm stuck just looking for these damn insects in the final twilight realm. I need to find two more. Did anyone else have problems finding the last set? I've gotten all of the obvious ones in the Zora area and Lake Hylia. Are they scattered through Hyrule or something? Hopefully someone can help me out. Yes. If you haven't looked in the bar, look in there. Medina or whatever her name is will tell you where the final one is once you've collected the rest.

QUOTE(Brian @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 07:45 PM) My buddy loves bad horror movies and he hated this. If he hates a horror movie, it has to be bad. There's a difference between bad horror movies and bad horror movies. I have a lot of friends that like bad horror movies, but they're the horror movies that aren't made for the mainstream, not there to make millions, but there because whoever made the film had a blast doing it. Horror movies like Black Christmas are made soley for money ... there is no style in it, there is no artistic integrity, and simply put, movies like that are absolute s***. That said, nobody has mentioned the best film of the year yet: Letters from Iwo Jima. And as far as the caliber of movies that came out in 2006, it was a down year. The Departed is a good flick, but doesn't stack up to Marty's best. Eastwood's films are also good, but neither match his monumental (for him, anyway) Million Dollar Baby. Little Miss Sunshine was average at best, but one of the best attempts to recreate Wes Anderson's humor that I've seen (too bad LMS didn't even come close to Anderson's film style). As far as why people mention movies like Talledega Nights, I'll never know why. Will Ferrel is simply not funny, and if any of his movies should be mentioned, it's Stranger than Fiction.

QUOTE(bmags @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 11:16 PM) I know a couple o' people that didn't like ' ' fiction, they aren't big ferrel fans though. I'm anxious for the spoon soundtrack I loathe Will Ferrel, but he has a gift like Steve Martin. He can play roles that don't involve obnoxious, over the top stupidity (though, Steve Martin is hysterical). This movie is creative in the Charlie Kaufman sense, though not nearly as developed, and you end up caring for the main character...which is essential all things fiction. It's also a pretty accurate portrail of how fiction writers work, how they act, the way they see things, etc., as I am a fiction writer myself. (Maybe it's just an accurate portrail of how I work?)
  17. QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 04:19 PM) Not this ladies first run in with the law... http://www.thesmokinggun.com/mugshots/lyonnemug1.html and I believe she has battled drug and or booze problems in the past That explains why she wants to rape her neighbors dog.
  18. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 02:07 PM) why are john kerry and larry king in your signature with jose canseco, joe crede and frank thomas? That was funny.
  19. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) 1st off, I was infact correcthttp://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-cubs-headlines 2nd off, just because the Sox don't like to go the 6,7 year route with players doesn't mean they are going down the Twins or A's route, unless that means running a smart organization. The market seems to always be in flux. Sure money is always going to go up, but I have a hunch when a bunch of these deals that have been thrown around(Meche, Lilly,Sorriano,Matthews) get to the 4th and 5th year, teams are going to be trying and dump these guys for whatever they can get. In turn, you might see the long years start to go away, but bigger money for shorter length of time. I could be dead wrong, but it's very possible. Anyway, I'm still very confused with you lumping the Sox in the same class as the Royals. In 2006, we had a payroll more than twice the size of KC, won 90 games, and had outstanding attendance. If your basing your whole opinion on the Freddy Garcia trade and the fact we haven't given out a 7/130 dollar deal, then I think you need to take a step back and look at the Sox as whole. We are in pretty good shape. Flux or not, you said it yourself, it's always on the up. Unless the Sox keep the attendence high, where are they going to get money to pay ridiculous salaries? And even if teams want to dump players for next to nothing, if the Sox payroll is near max capacity, can they really afford to take on the last 2-3 years of a players contract? But this is all beside my point. My point was baseball needs a salary cap. I was hoping to start a debate about baseball and a salary cap.
  20. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 01:30 AM) So when the salaries of players are going up all over the league, and payrolls are thus increasing at the same rate, the Sox will be the one team that doesn't increase its payroll? Why? We've obviously kept pace so far, why are we going to suddenly stop? Soriano's deal was idiotic. That's why the Sox'll never give out a deal like that -- to a player like Soriano. Where have we kept pace? The payroll will be down from last year and they refused to overpay for anything despite obvious needs on the team? In a few years most of the high paid players on the team won't be here anymore, so at that point are the White Sox going to have to bite the bullet and pay 10 million to get a #4 starter and 20 million to get a front line starter? If there's one observation that I've made from this off-season, it's that I think Kenny Williams is starting to make moves in the Billy Beane mentality. Sure, he's only made one move, but it's hard to accept that he couldn't have gotten at least 1 above average experienced MLB player in return.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) Didn't the our Sox have the 4th highest payroll last season?? You're probably right, the Sox will never give out a deal like a Soriano got, but that doesn't mean the Sox can't compete. The Sox spent a ton of money last season, and I will be shocked if the payroll isn't about 100 million this year. Clumping the Sox in with the A's, Royals and Twins is a bit of stretch. Just because the Sox don't spend there money like idiots doesn't mean we can't compete in the todays market. It just means Williams and Co. have to plan in another way. Suppose you are right on the front of the Sox. But as you said, they'll never give out a deal like Soriano got. It the market continues to go up as it has this year, the Sox likely will be like the Twins, A's and Royals. I guess they can "afford" to overpay some players, but certainly not 18 mil/year, and if they do overpay, the money had better be well spent on a worth while talent. QUOTE(Felix @ Dec 14, 2006 -> 01:03 AM) I stopped reading after this. Look at each of these teams payrolls, and tell me which doesn't belong. I see now that Tony already covered that, but still Nothing against you, but the face doesn't make what you said any better. Either read the entire post or don't respond at all. I've had this discussion with Tony before, but here, he questioned mixing the Sox in with the small markets of small markets, and then continued on to what the actual point of my post was.
  22. Baseball needs a salary cap. These contracts are getting out of hand. The Twins's, White Sox's, Royals's, Athletics's, etc., will never be able to throw out that much money to a SINGLE player and get away with it. Sure, Toronto will likely regret this deal (when they can't afford any body that's worth a damn) if he accepts, but for teams like the Cubs, Yankees and Red Sox, they can take the hit and they can take it well. Maybe it's one thing when GOOD players are getting contracts like this, but when Ted Lilly and Gil Meche are cracking the 10 mil/year barrier, something needs to be addressed. Sadly, it may take a lockout for anything like a salary cap to happen. But if it means compettitive balance, I'd support it. But, sadly, it's the dumbass owners that are giving out these contracts. Any way you look at it, if/when Selig steps down, I really hope this is something the new commish will address and fix.
  23. QUOTE(NUKE @ Dec 13, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) Heath Bars NUKE! WHAT THE f*** IS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!! Er.... HOW THE f*** ARE YA!!!!!!!! I forgot. Been too long since the chat room.
  24. Giving the new Explosions in the Sky a second listen through as we speak. Like the album, but still they can't get over the "Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever" hump. One day I hope it happens for them, 'cause that was a great album and they're loaded with potential.
