Final Fantasy 7 might very well be the best game ever made.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:48 PM) I have plenty of idea. In case you missed it.. I was there with a family to pick up the pieces of their selfish family member who left his brains all over the living room for a 7 year old to find. It's reality. One you have no idea of, and despite your nastiness, hope you are never faced with. You know NOTHING of my life. Is it your hobby to size people up and make conclusions with no knowledge what-so-ever? You think I've never experienced somebody take the bullet train? Think again. I know what the grieving process is like. And on top of that, I've asked myself the life or death question too. Does that make me an expert? Hell no. But at least I'm smart enough to realize that you're not like me, I'm not like you, they're not like me, I'm not like them. I'm not going to sit back and insult these people and call them selfish because they couldn't find any better alternatives. I know nothing of these people's lives. And I'm not about to size it up through one single moment.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:40 PM) Not all people that commit suicide do it because they are depressed, and until YOU experience that, YOU don't know s***. Stop generalizing. It's ignorant to those who HAVE experienced dealing with someone who has committed suicide. Oh, and it's not ignorant to call the people who have done it selfish? Give me a f***ing break. You have no idea why these people come to such drastic conclusions. To come to conclusion for them and sum it up in one simple word is beyond arrogance. It's beyond ignorant. It's downright foolish. Live their life before you spout your mouth off.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:04 AM) And if there is, and it's a reaction AFTER THE FACT, how does that contribute to them killing themselves as you seem to be trying to tie together.. ie... "well a start would be to not call the person selfish, eh?" Live, die, live die... That's not a choice? What would you call it then? Have you suffered from depression ever before? Have you seriously talked with people that have (without judging them in the process)? Are you a psychologist? Depression controlls your life. It eats you apart like you can't imagine. The recovery process is tougher than any surgery you can imagine. Depression is like cancer, there's no cure, there's only rehab. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it comes back. While it's none of your business nor is it anyone elses here on the board, but I've suffered from it before. I've struggled with the debate, "live or die?" Once you dive deep into the question and REALLY ask yourself that question, it doesn't just mean "live or die" like you suggest. Experience it before you make such stupid and blindfolded remarks. You have no idea what depression is like. You have no idea what "live or die" really means. I don't care what books you've read, what kind of degree you have. Until you experience it, you don't know s***.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 07:55 AM) not sure if it's on youtube or dailymotion.com, but about 10-15 years ago one of the major networks did an interview with Manson in prison. It was a female reporter, i think maybe Diane Sawyer. It is one of the most bizarre things you'll ever see. Stern, Steve Dahl and other radio guys use to play clips all the time. I've seen/heard various clips of Manson. One of the most striking things I heard him say was when he was released from prison some time ago. He said something along the lines of, "I'm still going to do what I do. Nothing can stop me. I'm not afraid of this place [prison]." Turns out he wasn't. And to put truth to it, prison is really the only "home" he's ever had.

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) Honestly though, wouldnt they have to be super intelligent and advanced to travel the large distances to get to us? Probably. But I don't think they've been here. Or maybe they got here by accident? Like, they were trying to go somewhere nearby, ending up drifting into eternity, don't need food/water/sleep/etc. to survive and just happened to float here. It's perfectly reasonable for that to happen. No?

QUOTE(bmags @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 02:52 PM) well, i think the consensus on this board was "meh" however, the new arcade fire leaked and i find it absolutely wonderful. Also new andrew bird has leaked and also a great listen. that's about it, i've been listening to Chris Clark a lot and Gza, i just got a new job for this summer so that's taken over most things. edit: in that first sentence i'm referring to what follows in my post, not discussion above me. I'm loving the new Arcade Fire, but I thought the new Andrew Bird was a disappointment. It was good, but I thought & the Mysterious Production of Eggs was much better.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:08 PM) Can we get a little more detail? Sounds very interesting. You can PM me, if you'd prefer. F that. I want to know too. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 05:06 PM) You must not read alot of Sci-Fi and watch any Star Trek. It's true, though. I don't read a lot of sci-fi. I read The Hitchhikers Guide and they're pretty stupid, but they're still a million times smarter than us. After all, we're played off as mere computer chips in that book...

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 9, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) I believe that the majority of legitimate UFO sightings are cases of technology the government has that is far better than any of us simpletons would recognize, thus causing confusion. Just my 2 cents though, I'm not close minded to the idea of there being aliens or anything, and it's hard to explain the recent rash overall since it's been worldwide. ^^^ What he said. I do believe there is other life out there, however. The universe is far too big, and far too unknown for me not to believe this. Do I think they've visited this planet? Not really, no. The common idea is to think of them as super intelligent, super advanced and what not. I wonder why. Why can't they be dumber than us? Why doesn't anyone write a sci-fi book about us humans going to another planet where the beings are utterly and totally stupid?

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) I can see where you're getting at too. The bottom line is if someone kills themselves or even wants to kill themself, then something or someone messed up along the line. I personally have no sympathy for anyone to kills themselves because that's their own choice. I just feel for the loved ones of that person. I feel bad for the loved ones too. But I feel sympathy for the suicidal too. They're obviously going through some emotional pain that is unbearable. I don't think it's as much of a "choice" that you make it out to be.

QUOTE(3E8 @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:07 PM) Was this person clinically depressed? If so, did you get to experience the mental pain and anguish they had 'to deal' with each day through a chemically inbalanced brain? It seems hard to make a blanket statement such as yours without having the disease yourself. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) you don't call the person selfish, the family blames themselves for it. That I understand. But isn't there some amount of selfishness in calling the deceased selfish after the facts? "He killed himself and it's my fault. Now I have to grieve the rest of my life over this." That's not selfish?
-
QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:45 PM) I don't think they mind so much after they commit the act. Oh, I guess nobody ever says that it's selfish before hand? Even just the pure thought of it? QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:55 PM) Not a problem. Quick question. Did she have implants when she posed in playboy? I'd be shocked if she hadn't.

So what happens for ties?
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 09:24 PM) Yeah I agree with Steff, it might not seem selfish because someone's just taking their own life, but the rest of the family has to deal with it wondering what they could've done to prevent it. It's just not a pretty situation, it's happened in my family before. Well, a start would be not to call the person selfish, eh?

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 8, 2007 -> 03:40 PM) Taking your own life might be the most selfish thing anyone could ever do. "A first sign of the beginning of understanding is the wish to die." - Kafka I never understood why people think it's selfish. Have you (I'm talking to everyone here) ever been so unbearably depressed that you wanted to kill yourself? Talk to anyone that has, read all the literature about suicide out there. It's not a matter of selfishness. I'm not defending Anna Nicole, but it's ridiculous for people to cast off something so serious as "selfish". Perhaps if people actually took time to figure out why somebody wanted to end their life, it'd happen less often. Calling somebody selfish is only adding fuel to the fire, it's only pushing them further away from where they want to be. If you ask me, it's selfish to judge those who only need acceptance.

On another note, Charles Manson is up for parole this year.

QUOTE(DrunkBomber @ Jan 28, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) I usually go to IMDB for movie reviews. Its pretty good, it has plot outlines, reviews and even message boards for each movie and actor. I do the same. I can't find a more reliable critic than IMDB. The user ratings are usually extremely accurate to the film. Not many movies are rated above 9 (I believe only 2 movies are). According to the voters at IMDB (which can be absolutely ANYONE), these are the top 10 movies of all time: 1. The Godfather 2. The Shawshank Redemption 3. The Godfather: Part II 4. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 5. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly 6. Casablanca 7. Schindler's List 8. Pulp Fiction 9. Seven Samurai 10. Star Wars - The Empire Strikes Back Obviously this list is subjective, but what I like about it is that it doesn't take into account the "importance" of these films. For instance, a lot of critics and top 10 lists rate Citizen Kane as the #1 movie of all time. For the importance and influences it made for film, it most certainly is. But from an entertainment standpoint, the movie is merely average. It's dry, it's slow and the story is just plainly boring. Now, what did The Godfather do for film? Hardly anything but bring the mob into mainstream reality. But from an entertainment standpoint, it's absolutely fantastic. It has memorable characters (the entire Corleone family, c'mon), a memorable story, and one of the greatest endings a story can have.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Feb 3, 2007 -> 06:37 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feature_length There are also going to be a couple of trailers for fake movies in between. One is being directed by Rob Zombie. Interesting. I did not know that about the feature length time. I didn't know about Rob Zombie either. I've liked his movies.
-
The trailer is finally out. The preview leads on that it is two "feature length" movies back to back. That, to me, would mean at least two 1 and a half hour segments from each director. I've been led to believe that their both one hour long, thus not feature length.

When I think of coke, I think of "Annie Hall". I think of Woody Allen sneezing over a trey full of coke and the powder turning into a cloud of dust and spraying on everyone in the room, on the furniture, on the floor, on the table. And then I laugh.
