Spike Lee movie "Chriraq" polarizes Chicago
juddling replied to caulfield12's topic in The Filibuster
I believe that the issue the last couple weeks had to do with tax breaks/incentives for filming in the state. Rahm wanted to take them away unless Lee changed the name of the film. It's laughable for Rahm to think this movie could hurt Chicago's violent image any more...... -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 08:35 PM) I think it's the Melissa McCarthy backlash. She was good in Bridesmaids, The Heat and tolerable in Identity Thief. From all the reviews, it has to be pretty good as they would love the opportunity to crush her. IMO, she was good in Bridesmaids.....The Heat was a horrible film (and she was the worst part of it). Tammy...well.....that is too easy to make fun of. I am curious about her in St. Vincent though I just think she is more suited to supporting roles as opposed to starring.

I will admit that Spy had me laugh more than Pitch Perfect 2 did. Statham was over the top funny.......

Sigh.....the things I do for family and friends. Trying to get together with friends for dinner and movie today. they are the type of people who see a lot of movies right when they come out so it isn't easy to arrange something. I left the planning to my wife and friends. I am now going to go see Spy.....ugh. kill me now. Literally, my last choice of movies. I am far from a horror movie fan and I'd rather go see Insidious or Poltergeist than MM in Spy.

[quote name='Jenksismyb****' date='May 19, 2015 -> 05:04 PM' post='3164905' It is odd though to hear or see people talk about what an influence he was. Norm MacDonald broke down crying the other night. I don't get it, but again, I think that's because he was huge in the 70's/80's. FWIW..... Letterman comedy tree

Maybe I have a short memory, but I can't remember the last time a Sox hitter had a long at bat (like 8 or 9+ pitches) and it ended up with a positive for the Sox????? -

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 10, 2015 -> 12:25 PM) There's one right near my house in Bolingbrook that we've gone to occasionally. It's not a Morton's or a Sullivan's but I think it's definitely a step above a Longhorn etc. Been there myself once. Nice place. Personally, thought it was a bit pricey but then again it's not somewhere you go every weekend. I can go for BD'S Mongolian grill every weekend though. Mmmmm

Took my kid to her first concert last weekend. Alex & Sierra opened for Andy Grammer. (there was another group opening who's name escapes me) . We had a great time at the House of Blues for the show.....about three songs into the main set she looked back at me with a huge grin and said "Dad....this is AWESOME"

Mark Buehrle THEY CALL IT THE HOTBOX, and it’s one of the more dreadful initiation rites any athlete might face. There’s hardly enough room for one person, let alone multiple bodies, inside the bathrooms found in the back corner of the large coach buses teams regularly use for travel. Yet on the 2000 Chicago White Sox, “there were five or six rookies just stuffed into the bus bathroom,” Mark Buehrle recalls, describing the worst parts of the hazing he faced as a21-year-old. “Every road trip, every bus trip, it was like, ‘All right, what’s going to happen to us now?’ I hated it. I hated getting picked on.” No matter, as a newcomer to baseball’s hidebound culture of hierarchy, all Buehrle could do was quietly take it. But he didn’t forgive, he definitely didn’t forget, and eventually an opportunity to deliver some payback came when White Sox players and alumni gathered at U.S. Cellular Field in 2010 to retire Frank Thomas’s No. 35. At 31, with a decade of service time to his name, Buehrle entered the trainer’s room inside the clubhouse and locked eyes with James Baldwin, the retired right-hander who once tormented him. “Hey Buehrle,” came the all-too-familiar command, “go get me a Jack and Coke!” Instead, Buehrle unloaded after a decade’s worth of grudging silence. “I walked up to him and said, ‘F–k you,’ right to his face, and then shouted, ‘God, that felt so good,’” the left-hander recalls, grinning happily at the memory. “Before, he was above me, and I couldn’t mouth off to him, but here he is out of the game and I finally got to.” (More at link with MB and today's Blue Jays)
