  1. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) Of course Hudson wouldn't land us a better, cheaper starting pitcher. Who the f***, in their right mind, would do that? Whenever someone says, "it is what it is," I've come to expect some funny explanations afterward. Hawk uses it all the time when he just doesn't have the patience to explain what's happening in front of him. I just want to switch scenarios here -- if we had Jackson and traded him for a pitcher of Hudson's caliber (which, may be nothing more than a #3/#4), while saving 7.5+ million, everyone here would be ecstatic. It may not be a bad trade in the sense one pitcher drastically outperforms the other, but ultimately, how much have we improved? Now, is this improvement worth a net increase in payroll of 7.5 million come next season? Are we doing this deal to perhaps improve one victory? And no, I don't want to hear you or anyone use that as justification, with some line of bulls*** following it about 'one game being the difference!" But...one game could be the difference...
  2. I like Blalock, I'd take him over Crede, but I'd question why we'd go after him when we have Joe's replacement in-house. Josh Fields will be our next 3B. Book it. Love Joe C., but I think we all know how it ends between Bor-Ass clients and the Sox.
  3. Chaos, ah luv that wall pic. Awesome montage.
  4. I was able to get 3rd row bleacher seats for the 4/23 game against the Twins, so I'll be bringing the clan for that one.
  5. I hate losing El Duque, but mainly for the playoffs. Vizcaino and Marte were mediocre at best last year, quite frankly I can't see how Jenks could do any worse than Shingo. Compared to last year Jenks > Shingo, Logan > Marte Duque > Thornton until further notice, although Coop appears to be working his magic again. McCarthy >>> Vizcaino. I'm sorry, I don't see how we can be anything but better there. We have some ???, but we had plenty of those last year too. Given that this management group just gave us our first champions in 88 years, they have my complete confidence.
  6. He'll get between 5-10. He'll be replacing any starter that goes on the DL, and after all of last year's innings it would not be surprising if a couple needed down time.

    Own up!

Everybody in this forum has been wrong at one time or another. What are the creators eating crow for? I ate my crow over the summer after a spring of making Pantywaist my whipping boy. Lame topic. We should be celebrating the trophy, not calling out fellow fans.

    Own up!

In the true spirit of this topic, anyone who thought replacing Pornstache with Uribe was a bad idea should also be banned. Anybody who thought not signing Ordonez was terrible should be banned. And anyone who thought trading Carlos Lee for Pantywaist was stupid should be banned. Now that we've set up the rules, when should we close down SoxTalk?

  11. My grandfather and dad took me to my first game when I was 3. I still have the coffee mug from the promotion. 1974. My grandpa died this spring. Had a few not-so-manly moments at work today thinking about him and the times he took us kids to Old Comiskey. Was able to take my son to Game 1. Wish I could have afforded a ticket for my dad too. What a wonderful experience. I'm sure alot of us have memories like this. Enjoy it guys. We may not see it again.
  12. Gload is a utility/backup player. We have Rogocop waiting for an opportunity. If he doesn't work, there's always Leo Daigle....
  13. Officer Karkovice had a cannon though.
  14. Congratulations Jeff. This message will expire in 2 days....
  15. Blum should be starting at 3B. I don't care how good Crede's defense is at 3B, you need to be able to get a hit once in a while to be a regular in this league.
  16. I think the important question here is..... "But where would we play him?" B)

  18. This might just be the best named topic ever....
  19. Rowand. How many plays did he make this series? He helped the pitching alot.
  20. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 8, 2005 -> 04:48 PM) 1)Dunn would get blocked by the first team in the waiver process. 2)If you think Griffey costs alot, then Dunn is going to give you a heartattack in what he's going to cost. 3)Dunn K's too much. That's the reason we want Griffey. We don't want inning ending K's. Griffey is a guy who could move guys over. Dunn is a better version of PK I suppose. I'd take Griffey over that anyday. 1. See my post. They'll both be blocked. 2. Dunn is not free agent eligible, and he won't make Griffey money in arby. He's making 4.6 mil this yr. If you're talking prospects, I'm unconcerned. I'm interested in winning the World Series this year, not 3 years from now. 3. Dunn has K'ed 40 more times than Griffey. He's also walked 29 more times. His OPS is .100 points higher than Griffey's, .114 greater than Kong's. That is a fairly significant difference. If you're going to compare someone to Kong, it had best be Griffey. Neither is in Dunn's league in overall production right now, and Dunn hasn't hit his prime yet.
  21. I have to agree with the anti-Griffey sentiment. If we're going to trade for a Reds DH let's get Dunn. I don't see either passing waivers though, since the Spank-mes need OF help.
  22. Guys who are likely to sail through waivers: Dmitri Young, Sidney Ponson, Odalis Perez Perez I would claim if I were KW. I would have no problem with grabbing Perez and sending Contreras through waivers. Only a 1.5 mil increase in payroll there and gives us the extra lefty we need.
  23. He would have moved onto his music list for the week by then.
  24. Guys, it's clear you don't stand a chance in hell against the red Sox in the playoffs. Clement over Buerhle easy. Arroyo over Garland, no contest. Schilling/Foulke is in a different galaxy than Hermy/Politte. I just don't see how you guys can drink that much kool-aid....
  25. I voted Charlotte and back in September. I'm still mystified why you dump him and keep an unproven guy with a 20.25 ERA. We needed a bullpen arm, preferrably LH, the way it was. IMO, Shingo's DFA was a bad call by KW.
