QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Who pissed in your cheerios? Every post you made was negative towards someone else. In case you missed it, the Sox have the best record in all of baseball right now, and I don't see the reason for people not to enjoy it while it lasts. Now you can go back to your puppy kicking. Uh, just because I'm not prostrating myself before the groin does not mean I don't think this is going to be a special year. I very much like the team overall, especially the pitching. I was not being sarcastic, I like the trend. So you can drink a cup of shut the hell up now.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 06:35 AM) I'm sorry but that is the DUMBEST nickname I have ever seen. That's fine, it's not for your entertainment. I will be using it until I feel like calling him Pud again. Of course the groin's game was more impressive. But that's what it is....one game. As for Uribe, my point wasn't about comparing him to the groin. My point was that the guy had 3 hits and people are talking about sac flies. That's like the groin getting his 3 SBs and people discussing his fine character in the clubhouse.
-
Yes, the groin had a great game last night. He became the first Sox player to steal 3 bases in a game since..... Willie Harris. I am not dissing him.....yet. I am just very wary of basing an impression on a couple weeks in April. I remember Kenny Lofton getting us all excited too. Then he disappeared.
-
Comparable starts in franchise history: 1912, 1919, 1935. Somebody call Jostens....
-
Wait a minute. The guy has 3 hits tonight and we're talkin' about sac flies? The groin gets 3 SBs, everyone's on their frickin' knees. Uribe gets 3 hits, and we're talkin' about sac flies? Dudes, hits are better than sac flies. Uribe's da man!
-
Geez. The groin has a good game and everyone's ready to canonize him. He's certainly a better leadoff hitter than Willie Harris, but this guy batted .244 last year. How 'bout we wait a little while before retiring his jersey?
-
And Carlos Lee will will finish the year batting .216, and the Yankees will be under .500 for the year. That is what we've learned so far, right?

Awful Experience at Sox Park (Cellular Field)
ISF replied to southsideirish's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Look at the bright side, you learned something today. I'm sure I'll get him there again soon, probably this summer. I didn't make a game last year, which was the first time since 1992. Gotta find a good promo game though. My dad always took us to a good promo game every year. I still have my plastic 1974 Coffee Mug. -

I took my oldest to a couple games 2 years ago. You can't go into the bullpen bar with a 5 yr old. He'll be back to the Cell in 14 years. -

I have the perfect solution......buy upper deck seats. There's nobody up there to walk in front of you. -
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/gammons/story?id=2043353 Gammons jumps on Buerhle's bandwagon as well under News and Notes.
-
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/bbtn/index You'd almost think he played for the Red Sox or something...

What did you THINK it meant Steff?

Wouldn't you want pornstache to be your valentine?

Well, hell, signing Dye and Hermanson were part of the big picture, let's lump them in too. If you want to give an overall grade, obviously at this point the offseason should be considered a success.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 02:15 PM) But without the Lee trade neither of those moves is possible. I agree with that. But as I said, neither does it mean that we had to sign AJP and El Duque. KW did not have to sign those players after trading Lee. As a matter of fact, I remember quite a few people getting worried we were pocketing the Lee money. We didn't sign the other 2 immediately following the trade. It looked for a while like we were no longer interested in AJP.

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) We won that game in spite of the umps best efforts to stop us. A tribute to the team. We lose that game the past couple years, and we use the call as an excuse.
-
Because they weren't part of the trade. It is what it is. Those 2 players were FA signings. Each of those moves gets weighed on its own merit. Did the trade give us the flexibility in payroll to make those signings? Certainly. But that doesn't mean they had to happen. KW could have made the Lee trade, and AJP and El Duque could have signed with other teams.
-
Garland realized he needed to take a little off the sinker for it to be effective. Excellent adjustment on his part. I just hope he isn't doing something different in his motion that allows hitters to be tipped off that it is coming.
-
I didn't want Maggs back because he is not a 14 mil player, healthy or not. Certainly not on our budget anyway. Dye at 5 mil is a very nice signing if he can put up 20+ HR, 80+ RBI and an avg around .280. As for the Lee trade, you can't just lump AJP and Duque into that. They were nice signings, but the Lee trade itself is a minus in my book right now. If the groin has a year similar to 2 years ago and Vizcaino can be effective consistently, I may change my opinion of it. I also don't see Davis as a minus. Davis gives us very good depth at C, something very few teams have. Too early to call Ozuna a plus. Right now, our offseason overall looks very good. Let's hope it keeps looking that way.
-
Let's compare stats on the groin and Lee at the end of the year. My money's on Lee.

QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 04:43 PM) Wunsch has 3 walks in 4 2/3 innings so far. That was the same problem he had with the White Sox - a maddening tendancy to walk guys. Cotts has 5 walks in 3 2/3 IP. As for Wunsch being a lefty specialist, that's quite alright with me, he always got the lefties out. Lefties have a .375 BAA and 1.000 OPS against Cotts. Cotts is not mlb ready. He's been thrust into the lineup because we have no one else. He's a 2 pitch pitcher with little to no command. KW would do well to find a solid replacement for him by June.
-
Wunsch would be better than Cotts, and the groin got himself thrown out at home for the 2nd time already this year, not to mention he's been sitting. Dye has been almost worthless. Don't get me wrong, I like alot of what KW has done. But Carlos Lee will not be hitting .212 this year. The groin might well be hitting .241. As long as we're winning, I'm happy. This is April though. I'll wait until mid-June before I decide who merits what praise.
-
If running into the wall making a play makes you a bad outfielder, I must wonder why an outfielder as crappy as Rowand is playing CF for us. Dye is no longer the fleet of foot guy he used to be. Everett covers as much ground. He's fearless out there, like Rowand. Probably doesn't have as good an instinct as Dye on getting jumps, but this is a guy who was playing CF for Texas a few years ago. He can hold his own out there just fine. Dye will have to pick it up with the bat if he wants PT when Frank returns. Either that or hope the groin keeps getting hurt.
-
When Frank comes back, Everett moves to RF and Dye gets to pick splinters out of his ass. Gload might be the odd man out. I don't see the problem.
