  1. John Donovan calls the Cubs the saddest sack franchise in the league in his latest column. Maybe he and this other dude can have a debate over which Chicago team they think is worse to root for and why. And we can all ignore them.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2048203 Who knew Garland was our ace?
  4. Sounds like Iguchi should be ready. He can play SS until Uribe or Ozuna is back.
  5. Gammons is too busy critiquing music and following Theo Epstein around like a groupie to know anything about baseball.
  6. That was sarcasm. I've posted plenty of positive comments. Just not directed toward Pud. B)
  7. You're too quick to say that Crede let it hit him. I mean, we're talking about Crede here. I'm pretty sure he's simply too slow to get out of the way.
  8. Well, I thought we were going to win every series this year. Now that we've lost one, it's clear to me that we will not win another series the rest of the year. Back up the truck.... :rolly
  9. Don't see the problem. Nothing more than pleasantries there.
  10. Hate to lose a game like that, but it is just one game. Defensive sloppiness in 2 recent games is cause for concern though. On the bright side, the offense had a nice game against a very tough pitcher.
  11. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 01:07 PM) I agree with this. We are not going to win 150 games.. there's going to be another 80 losses at least. You guys need to relax or we're going have a Soxtalk wing at several local hospitals. Damn, and I get accused of being negative....
  12. Willie Harris should never be anywhere near SS. Iguchi played some SS in Japan, I'd put him there and let Willie play 2B. And I'd only do that if Uribe and Ozuna are both in body casts. Otherwise one of them needs to be out there.
  13. Too late. We're going to end up in the middle of the pack because that's what happened to KC in '03. :rolly
  14. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) Ozzie is straight with the players? Did he tell Lee that he would be traded because he didn't go into 2nd hard, like he told the audience at Soxfest? Did he tell Olivo that the pitchers didn't like throwing to him like he has told the press time and time again? He's straight alright. Just as soon as they hit the road. Ozzie did in fact tell Lee he could be traded. He also questioned why Lee didn't go after the 2B right after that game. I don't know what he told Olivo, but since Alomar got a lot more playing time than one would have expected, I'd bet he did tell him there was a reason.
  15. I giggled when he said this was the same stuff Bowa got canned over. Bowa is not a player's manager. Guillen hangs with the players and is honest with them, they aren't worried about what Guillen will say behind their back, they're too busy hearing it to their face. Donovan forgot to address the possibility that maybe Ordonez is just a whiny who has blamed everyone but the man in the mirror for his not re-signing with the Sox. He had 14 million reasons to do so and decided to say no. Ozzie is not going to take that crap from anyone, and I don't blame him. Give him hell I say.
  16. Would that really be any worse than the fools that vote Vince Carter a starter in the NBA every year?
  17. I think we should just start a "We Suck" thread and merge the House of Cards topic into it with this one.
  18. Rowand never hit .300-30-100. He had 60+ RBIs last year. Rowand is a guy the Sox developed who has produced at every level of the organization. He hit .311 last year with 20+ HRs while doing an above average job of managing the most important spot in the OF. His contract is extremely reasonable, if he only puts up 15 HRs and 50 RBIs every year while batting .275-.280, he will be worth every penny. Also, Carlos Lee put this team on his back in the 2nd half last year. No Frank, no Maggs. To say all his hits/HRs came in garbage time is ridiculous. But then, hating on players the minute they leave is a proud trademark of this organization. I have absolutely no problem with critical analysis, and some of your points are very valid. But the idea Aaron Rowand was a one-year wonder is a large stretch, and the Lee-bashing quite simply damages your credibility.
  19. I'd trade Dye before I traded Rowand. Rowand's 3 yr deal is cheaper than Dye's, Rowand is better defensively than Dye, and offensively they'll be pretty comparable.
  20. I'm not sure how I feel about that possibility. On one hand, it's a low-pressure situation for B-Mac to get a taste of the big leagues during regular season. He'd know it's just 1-2 starts, not like he's auditioning for Contreras' spot. On the other hand, I'd hate to see his confidence take a shot if we brought him up and he got roughed up. I think he's tough enough mentally to handle that scenario. I just wonder how the team would handle it if that happened.
  21. QUOTE(JimH @ Apr 23, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) If you haven't already seen that he's clearly better than Willie Harris (plate approach and ability to steal bases) ... look closer. It's pretty obvious. I think Carlos Lee is a major talent and I wasn't thrilled losing him either, but that's no reason to trash Podsednik, or Vizcaino for that matter. But, to each their own. Oh, I agree he's better than Willie. I've already said so. But that's hardly an accomplishment. And I am not trashing Pud (he's having another nice game, so I'll upgrade him from "the groin"). Call me cynical. Kenny Lofton has ruined me on quick starting leadoff men. I like Vizcaino, not his fault Ozzie is still learning how to use a bullpen.
  22. Yup. If he keeps playing like this, I'll happily jump on the bandwagon. But I gotta see it in May and June before I do.
  23. I think this is where Rowand44 posts something about the dumbest comeback ever..... Next time ask before assume.
  24. He is my official whipping boy, because I don't think we should have traded Lee. He will be my whipping boy until I'm convinced he isn't a .240 hitting version of Willie Harris. If he has a good year, I'll tip my hat and give him his due.
