  2. QUOTE(chi-guy2 @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 04:14 PM) no he didnt http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/stats?statsId=5954 um, yes, he did.
  3. I like Javy and I wouldn't give up McCarthy for him. McCarthy will be our #5 by mid-season. That's only because he'll be a rookie. He'll pass up Contreras and Garland by 2006.
  4. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 02:53 AM) ortiz has spent his whole career in the NL in a nice braves stadium with possibly the best pitching coach in the league.... book it this year zambrano in the NL in a pitchers park will have a better era than ortiz Ortiz spent most of his career in Candlestick/Pac Bell.
  5. QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) We don't usually go there. We gather upstairs at the Atrium Bar. Well, I don't know if I can walk that far. Any particular area? It sounds like you have a large contingent.
  6. I'll probably walk somewhere for dinner (gotta do the cuisine while I'm in town). However, I'll definitely be in Knuckles most the evening, not sure how I'd recognize anybody here though.
  7. Who should I be looking for Friday night at Knuckles?
  8. Atlanta has more ??? than us. s***, Hampton can't make our rotation, at least until El Duque gets injured. And that will happen about the same time Smoltz's elbow gives out. Mets? Good Lord, what has Benson done to be named a solid #2? Victor Zambrano? Geezus, he's Russ Ortiz without control (and check Ortiz's walk rates for what I'm sayin' here). I agree about the Indians and Padres. Padres will miss Wells though. He was a nice vet to have with those young guys.
  9. Cards' rotation sucks. Mulder is damaged goods, Williams is gone, Morris is still having arm problems. They don't even make my top half of the league. Once Clemens announces he's coming back to Houston, they're up there in my book. Cubs and White Sox both have solid rotations. NY and Boston. If I had to pick a top 5: 1. Cubs 2. Yankees 3. Red Sox 4. Houston 5. White Sox Atlanta, Twins, Indians, Marlins all could be considered.
  10. I'm sorry, I know I haven't taken Geography as a course in over 12 years, but when did Chicago move to the East Coast? Of our 5 starters, Jon Garland is now the cheapest at 3.5 mil. I just can't see, based on our payroll, trading for Vazquez. KW specifically stated we only would have traded Konerko for RJ. Those things tell me someone is recycling old news. Vazquez isn't coming to Chicago.
  11. Cubs are going into next year with Nomar at SS instead of AGonz. I'd call that a significant upgrade. They lost Clement, and they haven't addressed their bullpen, but I don't think Hendry is done yet. Say what you want about the Cubs, they're not being run by the incompetent fool Lynch anymore. That said, I can't wait until Hendry has shored up those situations, and the Cubune is exalting the Cubbies as World Series favorites again. (Last year was great, eh?) We all know what happens when June rolls around. Ah, summer....

    Mariotti thread offshoot

Semantics. gay ( P ) Pronunciation Key (g) adj. gay·er, gay·est 1.Of, relating to, or having a sexual orientation to persons of the same sex. 2.Showing or characterized by cheerfulness and lighthearted excitement; merry. 3.Bright or lively, especially in color: a gay, sunny room. 4.Given to social pleasures. 5.Dissolute; licentious Usage Note: The word gay is now standard in its use to refer to homosexuals, in large part because it is the term that most gay people prefer in referring to themselves. Gay is distinguished from homosexual primarily by the emphasis it places on the cultural and social aspects of homosexuality as opposed to sexual practice. Many writers reserve gay for males, but the word is also used to refer to both sexes; when the intended meaning is not clear in the context, the phrase gay and lesbian may be used. Like the other names of social groups derived from adjectives (for example, Black), gay may be regarded as offensive when used as a noun to refer to particular individuals, as in There were two gays on the panel; here phrasing such as gay members should be used instead. But there is no objection to the use of the noun in the plural to refer collectively either to gay men or to gay men and lesbians, so long as it is clear whether men alone or both men and women are being discussed. Nothing about stupid there. I think you can find a much better word to describe Mariotti. There are plenty of colorful adjectives out there.
  15. From 1988-1995 ND was a dominant team. They were cheated of the 1993 National Title. The reason they were one of the top 5 teams in football year after year during this period is because Lou was able to recruit guys that were normally rejected admission to ND. Ever read "Under the Tarnished Dome"? Why was it tarnished if the athletes were NCAA eligible? Bottom line is that ND is held to a higher standard. Florida fires Zook after 2 1/2 years, nobody bats an eyelash. ND fires Willingham after 3 and they are suddenly a "football factory" and "just like everybody else". Well, if they're just like everybody else, why such the fuss, hmmm?
  16. Enough to buy us all a couple rounds? At least a couple hundred dollars. Parking will eat up most of it.
  17. Our only .300 hitter batting 7th? I don't think so. LF - Pods CF - Rowand 1B - Konerko RF - Dye DH - Everett SS - Uribe 3B - Crede C - Davis 2B - Harris That is our lineup as it stands. I think if we get Iguchi, he likely bumps Crede and Davis down and gets slotted 7th.
  18. SoxFest never sells out. Anyway, I have my hotel reservations for Friday night. If I can't get into SoxFest Friday, I will hang out in Knuckles and hit KW up for tickets when he pops in.
  19. It hasn't. Kenny still has time to trade Konerko for Jamie Moyer.
  20. I was just explaining for qwerty. Besides, weren't we promised that we would be signing a top of the rotation guy? We weren't going to just settle for a 5th starter? Where's that money for Lee going? I'm pissed. This offseason started off well enough with Dye and Hermanson. But KW has done nothing but screw up since then. Oh, he saved us 400,000 on Davis, but that's just more money for Reinsdorf to leave his grandchildren in his will. Starting the year with a payroll under 70 mil when the Cubs will likely be over 100 mil, is bulls***. Pay Perez. Grab Varitek out from under Theo's nose. We should be at 75 easy. More likely 80 mil. No reason for this cheap crap.
  21. I have a better chance of winning the Lotto than El Duque has of pitching more than 100 innings this season.
  22. I would take Cora or Grudz at 2B. They're both > Harris.
  23. El Duque. LOL We just payed 2 yrs/8 mil for Grilli to be our 5th starter most of the year. And people say JR is cheap. We could have been paying league minimum for Grilli to be our 5th starter.
  24. I thought pitching was KW's top priority this offseason. And adding speed and defense. That was his top priority too. KW has alot of top priorities this offseason.
  25. Davis at 1 mil is fine. It's basically a 30% pay cut from what he was making last year. Besides, even if Davis is just a backup, look what the northsiders gave their backup C. It's not like we have any other options at this point. Pierzynski is deciding between similar offers from the Sox and Tampa. By the way, how sad is it that Tampa can compete with us salary-wise? What a joke.
