ESPN Radio 1000 is reporting that the Cubs are close to acquiring Juan Pierre from the Marlins for a pair of minor leaguers. No Corey Patterson? We hope the Cubs wouldn't give up Felix Pie for one year of Pierre. Parting with pitching prospects, say Rich Hill along with Sean Marshall or Renyel Pinto, would be preferable.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) Id say 2nd worse .... anyways he was better than Ortiz in all offensive categories except RBI's so I think he deserves it more even w/out the defense factor. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> well thats where the real argument should be and i'm not throwing your opinion out the window, i just tend to value what someone does in close and late situations more than you do, and as far as Ortiz goes there isn't anyone else i'd want at the plate in the bottom of the ninth with two outs down by one. also, as a Red Sox fan, watching him on a daily basis, he's my MVP as a Konerko is to White Sox fans.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 11:41 AM) TNA could possibly be on the way to being that legit contender. They concentrate more on the actual matches and feuds and they're not trying to be a soap opera/sitcom. They have some decent up-and-comers like AJ Styles, Monty Brown and Team Canada. They've been picking up the right people when they leave/get released from WWE, such as Rhino, Christian, Gail Kim and Team 3D ( The Dudley Boyz ). With a good push from Spike TV and a little luck ( and a LOT fewer title reigns for Triple J aka Jeff Jarrett ), TNA could be what wCw was always too stupid, hokey and dollar-foolish to be. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> i watched a repeat late one night of TNA's broadcast and AJ Styles while a good wrestler, could very well be the worst on-mic persona i've ever seen in my life. -
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 14, 2005 -> 04:50 PM) Arod >>> Ortiz. Lets not forget that Arod plays gold glove defense (even if he didn't win the award). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> explain how he played gold glove defense? you seem to be judging on statistics alone offensively, but when it comes to defense and the fact that Rodriguez was the worst regular American League third baseman you completely ignore it.
-
If Ortiz had played the field odds are he would have finished right around the same in range factor and zone rating as Rodriguez did compared to opposing American League regular first baseman. Ortiz got shafted, period, but I don't really care.
-
a buddy of mines thoughts that i thought i should share for arguments sake:
-
I love how MLB credits Rodriguez winning this award for his "stellar" defense. Clearly having the worst range factor, and second worst zone rating of all regular American League 3rd baseman is "stellar". boo-hoo.

eddie guerrero abused drugs and alcohol and while he and everyone else in the wrestling world uses steroids, they are not the reason he died. rip eddie. -
i have a question. isn't there some sort of copyright infringement by posting an entire clipping of a payed letter? i mean i highly doubt espn would do anything to soxtalk, but i'm just curious.

thats frustrating that AD's gone.

Just a reminder to people who seem pretty upset about this. These awards are meaningless.

The Red Sox, despite popular belief, are in a very good position to win next year. Papelbon, DiNardo, Lester, Hansen, Delcarmen are all very good young talents and when you've got Pedroia and Youkilis on the offensive side of things, the future is bright. I just would have rather seen Theo at the helm than Lucchino. Manny will now certainly be traded, and it's still a possibility that Damon could be resigned for 5/$50 which scares the hell out of me with Ellsbury only a year away.

Nothing witty... lame...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 07:31 PM) I believe the team would have to seek the permission of the club where the guy is under contract. Before they hired Theo, the BoSox offered Beane something like $2.5 million a year to head to Boston, and Beane turned it down to stay out west. He wont' be moving anywhere. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He accepted the offer, only coming back on his decision a day later after realizing how distant he would become in the lives of his children, wife, and other family members. Three years have passed, and so anything is impossible, but to me it doesn't really matter. The answer was Theo Epstein, not Billy Beane, and in such an important offseason, this could be detrimental to the Red Sox future. It's a sad day for Red Sox Nation.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) And if he waited 1-2 more years, and couldn't put a winner on the field...their reaction would have been the exact opposite. Which, I think, is probably one of the reasons he left. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Balta, From all sources a tentative deal had been reached last night slash this morning and even though Theo didnt overly like it, he was willing to deal with Lucchino on the baseball side of things to continue his lifelong dream. However, it was not okay to Theo for Lucchino to stab him in the back to Boston Globe (part owners of the Red Sox) writer Dan Shaughnessy, in which Theo could no longer trust him. It's a damn shame, and I can only hope that if there is any good that comes of this, Shaugnessy will be boycotted and Lucchino fired, even if Henry is on there side.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 31, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Meh. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it started and ended with money. Whatever he spewed out on the situation was probaly just to save face. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, you're wrong, as usual.

This is one of those "average baseball fans" I was referring to in the other thread yesterday. To solve this problem, just kick him in the nuts. That oughta do the trick.

How the color of a teams sox on there uniforms would have any effect on how the team performs on the field is beyond me. I hate these stupid articles.

Manny wants a trade again....to the ChiSOx

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 01:41 PM) That's assuming Manny is willing to accept a trade to the Mets. If the 3 teams reported, Indians, Angels, and White Sox, are correct, I doubt the Red Sox get a package like the Mets one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think Pedro would convince him. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 30, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) I talked to a fan earlier and he was surprisingly happy with that Marte/Duque/Rowand proposition that, I think, Cheat brought up earlier. He even said that he figured the Red Sox would also throw in money in that situation. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hernandez has little to no value, and would really only be a throw in for salary concerns on the White Sox side. Trading Manny for an extremely wild and inconsistent lefty, and an average centerfielder at best when the Mets offer that is on the table is twice as good makes absolutely no sense. Cameron is arguably the best defensive centerfielder in the game and an on-base percentage guy, and Milledge has a darn good future in store for him. Rowand, Marte, and Hernandez won't get it done, not when Omar Minaya is willing to give up an arm and a leg for him. If Manny would only dh, what about bringing in Thome who the Phillies would give away for nothing and pay two-thirds of his contract.. -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 04:59 PM) Mark my words...Boston will not get much for Manny. Most inside of baseball know Boston wants him gone and they are going to move him this off-season. 90% sure of that and Boston wants to move his entire contract (without eating much of it) and with that being the case they best thing they can hope for is 1 good prospect and a couple filler type prospects. Thats at least whats being talked about and rumored out here (Angels are pretty interested). <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm not sure how much you've followed the Manny situation in Boston, but based on your comments, not long. In todays New York Times, it was suggested that a possible Cameron, Milledge, and Heilman deal would be re-offered. Statistically, Milledge is better than Anderson, Sweeney, and Young and Cameron is better than Rowand. I think a deal like this better suits the Red Sox needs than the deal that Cheat proposed. -

he will be making $6.0 million dollars next year, but yes I agree with you, he holds no value. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:26 PM) Good point. Just like the Cubs started the season with a washed-up Burnitz in right field and Hollandsworth in left field, fans would still always show up. The Sox don't have the huge fan base like the Red Sox and Cubs that will show up to games regardless of personell moves. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cub fans are one of a kind, but it isn't like they don't want to win. ha. -

QUOTE(fathom @ Oct 29, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) You really see Boston taking a chance on a pitcher with an enormous injury history after the health problems they had last year? If they're going to invest 5 million in a pitcher next season, they're going to find someone who they're sure can give them more than 20 starts. I can see the Red Sox or Rangers going after Loaiza. Remember, the Red Sox are big on stats. Marte isn't exactly their ideal lefty reliever with his splits. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Red Sox will have no interest in Hernandez, but I do think Marte would be of interest. Of course, Mike Myers could be resigned tommorow and the need for Marte would be gone.
