I must have misread your original statement, I apologize.
-
You know where I stand, I know where you stand. I just don't think its fair to say that steroids will guarantee a short and early death.

He wasn't all that big of a boy at Ohio State. His arms had always been big, and he'd always been a rather strong kid, but his stomach only started to protrude when he got into the NFL.

There's a risk to walk upstairs and get a glass of water, lets be honest. All studies regarding anabolic steroids are based on abusing the product. Like I said, when taken properly, they will do no little to no harm to your inner organs. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a perfect example. The guy not only took, but abused steroids for 15-20 years, and now at almost 60 years old appears to be in rather good health. There are also many diseases and such that use steroids as the basis of there treatment. Delayed puberty for instance uses testosterone to make your body grow at a more speedy rate and no studies have proven that they hinder or hurt the teenagers life. This argument seems to be going nowhere, but I just think because of the media steroids have been way overblown as something that will automatically kill the user, which is 100% false. As stated in the rebuttal, steroids have not killed one person, not one. It's just something to think about in my opinion.

Not starting Chad Hutchinson from day one was the biggest mistake this Bears team made. He had all the tools in Dallas, he still has all the tools here today. You give him enough time in the pocket and he's a very effective quarterback.

Abusing steroids will do harm to your body, as will abusing alcohol or any drug for that matter. That is not my point. If taken properly, or under proper guidance, there is not one factual study that proves that steroids will damage your body in any way.
-
Show me one study that proves steroids cause any harm on your body and I'll listen. I recieved a great rebuttal on an article this past week from the Hartford Courant regarding steroids, from a bodybuilding guru and a buddy of mine who prides himself as I do on knowing anything and everything about supplements, dieting, training, etc. This is in response to Jeff Jacobs' article on Friday, December 3, entitled "Financially, This Cheater Will Still Prosper." Mr. Jacobs, Abraham Lincoln said, "better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." Please don't misunderstand me, I never thought you were a fool, in fact, i previously enjoyed your articles in the sports section. That is until you didn't "remain silent" when you chose to "speak out" about something you clearly know little, and almost surely nothing about. What I'm talking about, Mr. Jacobs, is your pathetic attempt to belittle steroids. Let me ask you a question, Mr. Jacobs. What do you know about steroids? Now I'm not asking about what you think you know because of what you saw on the "story of the week" on some TV show or what you read in an article in some newspaper. What FACTS do you actually know about steroids? My guess is that you know absolutley nothing. If I am mistaking, and you do, in fact, know something, or anything for that matter, about steriods, clearly it is not very much judging by your article. Instead, why not put your time, and good writing skills, to a better use? Perhaps write about the dangers of some "legal" drugs, cigarettes and alcohol. Combined, cigarettes and alcohol, both of these accepted, legal drugs, have killed 100% more people than anabolic steriods ever have, and for that matter, ever will, because steroids have never killed anyone. Show me a study, Mr. Jacobs, or ANYTHING for that matter, that proves "the ravages of steriods could lead to an early death". That is complete nonsense. There are too many quotes of yours that I could endlessly debate, but I'll just choose my "favorites".... "He is a junkie. He is a liar. He is a cheater." To put it bluntly, Mr. Jacobs, let me explain to you why you are wrong. In today's society, where I thought people were getting better than to stereotype others on a mere whim, it seems I was wrong. People who use steroids are junkies? Are you even trying to be serious? We're not talking about street heroin here. We are talking about drugs that are prescribed to patients by doctors in the United States, and are actually legal over-the-counter drugs in many other countries around the world. Sure, steriod ABUSE is harmful. But name an abuse that ISN'T (gambling? alcohol? anything?). To label Mr. Giambi as a "junkie" because he used steroids is a pretty pathetic attempt at trying to give your story the media's coveted "shock value" to make your story seem interesting. So, world reknowned superstar, 7-Time Mr. Olympia, current Governor of the State of California, and one of the biggest, if not the biggest movies stars in history, Arnold Schwarzenegger, he can be labeled by you a "junkie" in a single word? Secondly, sure Mr. Giambi may have lied. Why do you think he did so, Mr. Jacobs? Well, I'll tell you why,for the same reason Arnold always denied it, because people know nothing about steriods. When people know nothing about something, they start assuming. It reminds me of the Salem Witch trials or McCarthyism. It's people like you, the media, and especially the sports media, look for EVERY single little "nothing" and try to make it into "something". Is just reporting who won the game not enough anymore? Must you hold ahtletes under microscopes and crucify them because they choose to live their lives the same as you and I, minus the attention? Should they be held more accountable for their actions because they are famous and your kids look up them? Absolutely not. It's not Mr. Giambi's fault your kids' hearts will be broken when this story hits the news. It's yours because of your slanderous nonsense. Would it have been better had he told the truth to begin with? Perhaps. Mr. Giambi lied because he knew what kind of contempt society views steroids, and it's that same mindset that you share, Mr. Jacobs, which is that of making judgments about something you know nothing about. Did Arnold lie? Sort of. Why? Because he knew that if he would've admitted to using steroids every teenage who ever picked up a dumbell would go out and try them. Is that his fault? No. It's the fault of parents who allow their children to mindlessly worship those people and things that aren't important in life, like athletes, instead of their own family and friends and values. Thirdly, Mr. Giambi is not a cheater. Like you even stated in your article, "in 2003, when Giambi admitted he was using, there was no punishment-only a survey-in place." So, Mr. Jacobs, it's clearly NOT cheating when there are NO steroids laws in MLB. By your logic, Allen Iverson should also be held in contempt of cheating. He carries the ball, an illegal action, almost every single time down the court, yet he does so because the NBA doesn't enforce it. Should he be castrated? How about Shaquille O'Neal? He uses his mammoth size and has his way with defenders in the paint, which is "against" the rules. Should he be punished? In Mr. Giambi's case, there WERE NOT even any MLB rules in place that made steriods illegal. Did he have an unfair advantage? Perhaps. Maybe the ball traveled a few feet further after he crushed the ball. But "if Giambi hadn't hit those two homeruns in Game 7 of the 2003 ALCS, it would only have been an 85-year Red Sox curse.", COME ON!!! So if Giambi hadn't used steroids the Red Sox would've won the series, went on to the World Series, and won that??? Mr. Jacobs, surely you're smarter than that. AGAIN, steroids won't make you hit homeruns, nevermind even help you connect with a 90+MPH fastball. What they WILL do is MAYBE give the ball a few more feet if you DO happen to connect. So please, Mr. Jacobs, do us a favor from now on and use Honest Abe's advice. Please "remain silent" on issues you know nothing about, that way you won't seem so foolish. As a matter of fact, prove your not a fool and take steroids. Then you could be a Major League ballplayer and be hitting homeruns because it's that easy, right? And if you think I wrote this article because I'm a bitter, resentful Yankee fan, and I'm protecting one of my players, you're dead wrong. In fact, I'm actually a DIE HARD Red Sox fan. Sincerely, AJ

I have read up on steroids hundreds of time, and if taken under proper guidance as they were, they will do no harm to your body. Clearly more people than I thought are buying into the Sportscenter crap that steroids equal a guaranteed death.

2004-2005 High School Basketball Thread!

New Trier's basketball program has been nothing since Matt Lottich, Todd Townsend and that core of players left and with Malnatti and Sheyers dad being best of freinds, going to high school together, and playing basketball together, it was almost a shoe in that his son would be going to New Trier even if he had been living in Northbrook his entire life. Financially the Scheyer family was unable to make the move to the New Trier district, which sucks, but you just got to deal with it. I had no idea, nor do I have any interest in knowing that GBN's soccer team beat our guys soccer team. Our girls have been not just State Champions, but the best in the country for the last two seasons, not losing a game. If I were to go see a soccer game, it would be the girls. Your student section was definitly weak, as ours has been since Lottich and Townsend left. There used to be the regulars that would head to the games weekly but since NT has been horrible the last few years, its been a rough student section. Now that I am a junior, its cool to have that feel of you own the sophomores and freshman rather than what it had been for the years prior where I was getting pushed back and what not. Also, the hazing chants of course have got to get old, but it's still a rather good cheap shot, if you know what I mean. Finally, New Trier plays Loyola next week, and years back I remember going to the game and I remember the crowds just getting nasty. I feel for that, and can't wait until it escalates into a Ron Artest like situation. -

Just an FYI, I did not participate in the "scoreboard" chants four minutes into the game.. damn kids. We definitly had some awesome chants going. The Hazing chants were priceless, and there were many other good ones. It sucks that the highlite of the game had to be chanting, but when Scheyers supposed to go to New Trier it's a huge blow to the program when he chooses not to. He definitly missed alot of shots, but he had to create all of his shots. He missed only one free throw, he passed well, had some good looks. He's excellent. Final thing, what the hell was that "just like soccer" chant. Could it get anymore embarrassing for your school? -

To each his own, but I don't consider him the "enemy" anymore. He is one of the best catchers in the league, still relatively cheap considering what Jason Varitek is slated to get in free agency, and really gives this White Sox team a "grinder" in the words of Kenny, something he is very fond of. The guy is hated by all of you for a reason. He's clearly an excellent, outspoken, team player, something any team anywhere would want. -

Excellent post. With AJ slated to make slightly over five million in arbitration, the Giants seem to be very willing to hand the job over to Torrealba, and give Pierzynski away. -

Well obviously, but your holding it against him that he followed what the Twins were doing. Thats like Frank Thomas not giving a hoot what the White Sox were doing after being in Chicago for an eternity. -

If he goes to Arizona, and the Yankees are paying part of his salary, he's more than affordable at not just five, but even six or seven. -

why wouldn't he follow what the Twins are doing? He was over in Minnesota for years, those guys are all his freinds... -

Lets be honest, Randy Johnson will either be a Yankee next year or he'll be back with the Diamondbacks. With that being said, Javier Vazquez will definitly be apart of any Randy Johnson trade. The Diamondbacks could easily turn him around and deal him in fear that Vazquez will hit that long term trade clause in his contract based on poor team performance. Anyone not named Mel Stottlemyre coaching and critiquing this kid will have him not only resembling his Expo days, but probably even being better. -

When I heard the Yankees had acquired Randy Johnson, I immediately jumped onto the fact that considering how poor of a team Arizona is, that Vazquez could be dealt. Lets be honest, Mel Stottlemyre absolutely ruins pitchers. He has ruined Ted Lilly, Jeff Weaver, and now Javier Vazquez, not to mention Jose Contreras. The guy is without a doubt one of the worst pitching coaches in the league, and I am begging for the day that either the White Sox or the Red Sox for that matter pick up Javier Vazquez. -
Awesome news. I love the ad.
