http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AuEz...o&type=lgns Its encouraging when Hunter says "I have to go out there and see if the ball snakes.. Im a defensive scientist out there" He loves the field at the Cell. Right now it looks like the Rangers, Dodgers and White Sox are the top 3 for Hunter. If he wants a TON of money, he'll sign with Texas. From what i've heard about LA is that the field isn't that great, but Hunter loves Joe Torre. And with us, he'll get a more than respectable contract and he loves the field. I think its 33.33% Dodgers, 33.33% White Sox and 33.33% Rangers. I really hope we get him.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 06:51 PM) I smell a Bartolo Colon signing for a stop gap....... Wait, that was my Taco Burrito King meal from last night, my bad. If Colon can get that fat arm fixed.. he can be a cheap 1 year bargain.

QUOTE(wilmot825 @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) I think that the recent trade of Jon Garland for Orlando Cabrera is a set-up for a bigger trade. Kenny Knows something we don't and I bet this trade is going to be better in the coming weeks. Kenny just said "Were not done... were still after some big fish". Its not over for sure... can we get another Cabrera? Sign Hunter? Maybe Crawford... okay well i doubt the last one haha. Heat up the hot stove..this offseason will be more active than the pre-2005 season.
-
IMO Cabrera is better than Tejada and Renteria. Cabrera just won the GOLD GLOVE! He's a gamer. I hope they can sign him to a 3 year extension soon! Am I the only one who likes this move? Yes im worried about the rotation, but i think KW will bring in a decent veteran for a reasonable price... oh and he solidifies that 2 hole in our lineuP!

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Nov 19, 2007 -> 05:30 PM) Maybe we'll sign a Clement, or a Colon, or, hell, a Garcia with the extra money? To come in mid-season or next? Who knows what's up. Im okay with bringing in Colon or Garcia for a cheap discount rate.. they could help a lot in July or August when they can return. This move just means that both Danks and Floyd are in the rotation... umm im not so sure about that. I hope we get another starting pitcher..
-
I'm not going to judge this move just yet like most of you are doing. Cabrera is a hell of a shortstop and will make our lineup much better. It sucks we lose a very solid pitcher in Garland, but lets face it they wouldn't be able to sign him after 2008. I think re-signing Cabrera is much more realistic than re-signing Garland. KW has a plan and this is the first move to his plan... this shows us that he isn't sitting on his hands like he did last offseason which is good. this team still needs a leadoff hitter, CF, LF and bullpen help.. perhaps another SP now. Lets wait and see what happens. As of right now: 1B Konerko 2B Richar/Uribe? I think Uribe will likely be deal now. SS Cabrera 3B Crede/Fields? Crede will likely be dealt next. LF Owens (I doubt it...) CF ???? (FA: Rowand most likely) RF Dye C Pierzynski Yep this is the start of it all... Keep heating up that HOT STOVE!
-
The Royals? Come on Kenny you can't get outbid by the damn Royals for this guy... spend the extra cash.. his #'s are impressive and he would be a great assett to a bullpen in desperate need for a couple of reliable veteran relievers.

QUOTE(chisox2334 @ Nov 16, 2007 -> 07:12 AM) http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=78668 Stocking stuffer Thats a good lineup.. but one problem with that scenario.. who will be the leadoff hitter.. Richar? He's not ready for that yet. I think the LF has to be the leadoff hitter doesn't it?
-
CSN reported that Kenny and Rowand have already spoken... will Rowand wait to see where Hunter goes to maximize his value? I would assume so.. plus im sure he wants to see what the Sox are going to do.. its obvious he wants to come back here.
-
I like Phillips.. he's been a White Sox optimist since joining ESPN. But sometimes he says very outragous things... Come on get both Hunter and Cabrera?? KW doesn't have the money or the minor league resources to make tha happen... unless he deals Konerko or Garland or Crede....

5 years for 13-14 million/season would be a steal in todays market.. DO IT.

Miscellaneous "MLB" Trade Notes
GreatScott82 replied to Kalapse's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
That would piss me off also. I've been wanting Crawford on the Sox for years... If they are putting a package together, KW should offer a bigger package.. but as fathom mentioned, our lack of minor league development hurts the Sox in putting together an attractive package for Tampa. The only thing I can think of is offering them Fields, Danks, Gio, and Broadway. But if I were Tampa the Cubs offer of Hill, Marmol, and Cedeno will be alittle more attractive. Oh would Crawfords: .315 avg, 50 SB, 80 RBI, and 11 HR look damn good in our offense!! -
Not sure if this was on here yet... From MLB.com I wonder if Ozzie can call Flordia managment himself.... But seriously if there is an oppurtunity to get Cabrera you get him. I can handle Crede at 3B for one more season.. after next year just move Cabrera to third. If this happens AND KW gets Hunter, WOW.
-
QUOTE(max power @ Nov 9, 2007 -> 02:48 AM) I completely disagree with your notion that uribe's defense had anything to do with Fields. When crede was at 3rd, he was still struggling because he got fat. Being fat had ALOT to do with it. But come on.. Crede covered ALOT of ground out there giving Uribe a more distinguished zone to cover..
-
Defense, speed and pitching wins... Defense: Uribe a great defensive shortstop in 2005 and 2006, he struggled a bit last year because he had to cover more ground with Fields at 3B. We have to remember Crede covered a lot of zone.... I think with a successful spring training together Uribe and Fields will work well together defensively in 2008. If we get Hunter thats another great defensive addition. Pitching: I agree spiderman i am a bit worried about the rotation.. ESPECIALLY if Garland gets traded. You can't rely on Contreras to get back on track. And how can we expect both Danks and Floyd step it up? Danks showed promise in the first half but tapered off quickly after the All-star break. Floyd struggle hardcore when he got here, but than found a little groove toward the end when the season was already long gone. I don't mind having one of these pitchers in our rotation, but i don't want them both... The bullpen.. YIKES Kenny said this will be his top priority this offseason.. I really hope it is, because it was down right HORRIBLE. Speed: If we get Hunter for CF, that leaves LF as our only open spot (pending a Crede trade) for a speedy leadoff hitter. . With all the other possitions filled up, that also leaves the critical #2 spot open... someone who can bunt and have a solid OBP. I really don't see any #2 hitters in our lineup now that Iguchi has departed. Fields is more like a #6 or 7 hitter and so is Hunter. Uribe will likely be the 8th place hitter and Richar the 9th. . This team is pretty much assembled like the 2000-2004 team of one leadoff hitter and the rest boppers. . But its EARLY: KW can pull of many surprises.. last year he didn't do much and the results showed that. the year before he added Thome, Mackowiack, Cintron, Vazquez and Thorton. That was a good offseason... Despite the fact they collasped in the 2nd half. This offseason he needs to do even more IMHO. Make 1 or 2 trades... get a few speedy guys in the lineup.. trade a bopper or 2 (Crede and Konerko?) hopefully trade Contreras for a team desperate for another starter.. possibly give us a decent reliever and prospect back.. Sign a Japanese reliever or 2.. Add some bench depth... Yeah this offseason is damn critical for KW...
-
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Nov 8, 2007 -> 09:41 PM) Scott Podsednik. Yup. It'll happen. If that happens Kenny deserves an ass whoopin
-
Okay saying is if we do indeed get Hunter and with Uribe coming back, the only open spot for a leadoff hitter is LF.. this being the assumption that Crede will be dealt.. (Boras turned down any sort of negotiations with KW this offseason on a Crede extension). So the time is now to trade Crede.. hopefully for that leadoff hitter and maybe some pen help.
-
I heard that too. If the Sox offer 5 years at 15 mill/season, there is no doubt in my mind he wouldn't accept. If what Bruce is saying is true.. start buying your Hunter jerseys..we just may have a gold glover hunting down balls in CF next year.
-
I don't like that article... the shortstop candidates: Eckstein, Greene and Wilson?? Not that exciting. And Torri Hunter will now be too expensive? Same as Rowand? Come on..
-
ESPN 1000 says the Sox have contacted Tampa Bay in regards to Carl Crawford.. How many times do you guys think KW has tried to swing a deal for Crawford? Do we even have a decent package to offer them?
-
If we get Damon.. he will for SURE play LF. So no worries.. Hunter or Rowand will be our CF next year. Damon's arm is brutal and i think he wouldn't have a problem with moving to left field, especially with a guy like Hunter or Rowand in CF... Damon can still cover a lot of ground out there.. Our defense in the OF would be stellar in 2008 if this goes down. I agree with fathom, this seems like a typical KW move. Trade an expirering contract for someone under contract for more years and have the other team eat some of the contract.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Nov 4, 2007 -> 11:44 AM) I also think KW has a deal that's almost done. It sounds like the players might be decided upon but some details still need to be hammered out [like money coming back to the sox in a Crede-Damon deal]. Why else would KW be so obvious, he has no reason to play coy or hint about a deal? Exactly.. maybe he's just really excited about it haha. I just hope it isn't like the Omar Vizquel situation.. many sources had him signed with the Sox and all of a sudden he went to the Giants. BTW thank you Omar.. if that never happened... well you know.
-
With A-Rod most likely heading West (Dodgers or Angels) and with the Yankees having 4 outfielders (Cabrera, Damon, Abreu and Matsui) it only makes sense for a deal with the yankees to happen. I think Jonny Damon will be a southsider next week. The Yankees have already contacted KW about Crede.. and with KW saying that the Fields/Crede issue will be resolved very soon, it sounds to me that a deal has already been done. I hope the Yankees eat about 1/4th the remaining contract, not like they can't afford it with A-Rod leaving. If we get him, where would he play? God I hope LF, his arm just isn't good! An outfield of Damon, Hunter/Rowand and Dye wouldn't be too bad. You have Owens coming off the bench as the 4th OF.. I know im getting ahead of myself but i think this just may work! P.S. Didn't Damon go to high school with AJ?

KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
GreatScott82 replied to GreatScott82's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(WHITESOXRANDY @ Nov 2, 2007 -> 02:15 PM) Who's the FA SS that you would lavish all this big bundle of money on ? Eckstein or Vizquel ? If you want the Sox to make serious improvement at SS then they must make a trade. That means giving up some of the few trading chips that they have plus you want to give up more players that they can't afford to give up in order to get a real good outfielder (and no, Crisp is not one anyway). Doesn't make sense. The Sox need to start signing some players to ADD to their organization instead of dealing prospects and letting good players walk away or get next to nothing for them. The only major free agent they will add this winter will be the CF possition and yes it will be Hunter or Rowand sorry people. I really don't see us dealing away any more major prospects.. well lets be honest the organization really can't afford it. So if we do get a legitmate SS it will be from a trade for Garland or Contreras. Scott Merkin from WhiteSox.com said KW still might even pick up Uribe's option and plug him at 2B for 2008.. thats actually not a bad idea.. but we can probably get equal to more production from Richar out of the 9 hole. If the Yankees are serious about getting Crede then we can acquire Cabrera, plug Fields back at 3rd, aqcuire Hunter, trade for Furcal and we would have one hell of a lineup: Furcal SS Cabrera LF Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Fields 3B Hunter/Rowand CF Pierzynski C Uribe/Richar 2B -
KW to make a strong push for Crisp?
GreatScott82 replied to GreatScott82's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Crisp would be a decent late in the order hitter and a good left fielder. I still think Hunter or Rowand will be signed to play CF even if they do get Crisp. An offseason of Crisp, Rowand and Furcal would be a good one in my eyes... I think the first move will be aqcuirering that new SS. I just hope it is not Tejada..
