  1. QUOTE(kageman129 @ Jan 19, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) You forgot to add that Jerry Owens only needs 35 stolen bases to reach 100. I think Owens could get that even if he starts limited games. I hope he has a great spring training and becomes our everyday center fielder... You know one of those things that occurs which makes the Hunter 'non' signing a blessing in disguise. Im sure KW is praying for that too haha.
  2. Im going to wait and see what KW does with the remaining offseason before i make any judgments. I could careless what any critics think. Right now we may see an upgrade at 2B. We sill may get Dotel or another reliever, we may get another starter. Whats going to happen with Crede and Uribe? THis offseason is far from over....
  3. This is starting to become embarressing. Reports that we sign a player than he signs elsewhere. I hope for the Sox sake this isn't the case and that he does sign. But i wouldn't be suprised if now goes elsewhere.
  4. I like the signing. I actually mentioned in July and August on here that Kenny should go after Linebrink and Dotel and many of you criticized the suggestion. Im glad to see we signed them both. This signing makes Macdougal expendable, he can probably be involved with a deal as a package with Uribe or Crede.
  5. QUOTE(The Beast @ Jan 16, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) It would really make sense for the Sox to take a flier on Colon at the price Lieber is at. Isn't Colon younger and doesn't he have better numbers than Lieber? I may be wrong, but I'd gamble on Colon like the Cubs with Lieber. According to Brrruuuuuce Levine the Sox are still considering Colon. I say it would be stupid not to 'consider' him. With Floyd out of options it is almost certain that he would make the rotation this year. I like Danks as our 6th starter and i think he can use some extra seasoning down in triple-a. See McCarthy of 2005- he started pleanty of times when El-duque took some time off for his shoulder problems. The signing of El-duque was a risk then and that paid off with McCarthy as the 6th starter. I think if Floyd can put up similar #s to El-duque in 2005 and if Colon needs time off to rest his arm you have Danks waiting in the wings. If i were KW i get this done. Sure he wont be able throw 98 mph anymore but if he can throw 91-94 and can mix that up with a decent change and curve ball he can still get the job done.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jan 14, 2008 -> 11:47 PM) don't.have.the.bullets i know... unless kw decides to part ways with Fields of course. i doubt that would happen. i do however see Colon returning.
  7. I think KW has one more suprising major move before Soxfest (At least i hope...) and a day or 2 before Soxfest KW will have ALL the new players in the city for a press conference. (Cabrera, Linebrink, Quentin, Swisher, Ramerez, [Colon, Bedard, Roberts?] )
  8. There are many.. PAST: Navarro, Koch, Rick White, Royce Clayton... but the one guy i couldn't stand was Sandy Alomar Jr. He came along to the Sox in 2001 a year after we won the AL Central in 2000 and he just couldnt handle the rotation. He was on the Sox from 2001-2004. In 2005 we won the World Series, see a pattern here? Than they went and replaced the Widge with Alomar Jr in 2006 and yes once again they missed the playoffs. Sandy Alomar Jr was the anti-playoff catcher. 2007 disaster team: Andy Gonzales, Darin Erstad, Scotty Pods, Ryan Bukvich, Luis Terrero, David Aardsma, Nick Masset, Andy Sisco, Mike Myers.
  9. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 12, 2008 -> 06:42 PM) If this happens, that takes two 3B's off the market. Crede to the Angels? Crede is going somewhere... and probably soon.
  10. I think Lohse is better suited for a NL team.. i think he'll get shalacked in the AL.
  11. Just heard a report on Sporting News radio that Colon and the Sox are in serious discussions about a deal that would bring him back to the Sox.... 1 year deal anybody? Major incentives most likely involved like maybe a 6 million deal that can go up to 10 million if he pitches over 150 innings or something along that nature. I think Colon has a better chance at regaining form over Freddy and if Bartolo is pitching in the winter leagues there is a great chance he'll start the year on an MLB team. Low risk high reward seems to be the White Sox forte over the years. Loaiza, El-duque etc....
  12. Those 3 way deals barely ever happen in baseball but after reading some of everyones thoughts and the current states of the Angels, Sox and O's i can see something possibly brewing. As some of you mentioned before the Angels do NOT want a team in their division to get Bedard, the O's will need a new 2B with the likely departure of Roberts. They currently need a new SS with the departure of Tejada. The Sox need a leadoff hitter, another SP and maybe some bullpen help. White Sox trade: Paul Konerko, Joe Crede and Juan Uribe Baltamore trade: Eric Bedard, Chad Bradford Angels trade: Howie Kendrick, Chone Figgins, Ervin Santana, Justin Speier White Sox aqcuire: Chone Figgins, Eric Bedard, Justin Speier Angels aqcuire: Paul Konerko, Joe Crede, Chad Bradford Orioles aqcuire: Howie Kendrick, Juan Uribe, Ervin Santana Okay i doubt any of this happens just like 90% of our speculation but it makes the offseason interesting... I wonder if the PK rumors heats up as it gets closer to Soxfest.... should be interesting.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 10, 2008 -> 09:50 PM) I like our overall lineup and bullpen. I just have 0 faith in the rotation(I'm starting to sound like a broken record here), I just can't see a contender having JC, Danks and Floyd at the back of the rotation. The lineup is pretty good but i still think we need that experienced leadoff hitter. The bullpen was slightly improved but other than Jenks we are basing the '08 seasons on "HOPE" that Macdougal and Thorton can rebound strong. The rotation is our biggest weakness. I can see Contreras winning 12-14 games and slightly rebounding from last years nightmare season but im just not so sure about Danks and Floyd. With that being said i think one way to improve the club is to trade Pauly for Kendrick, Figgins and Santana. Then we ship out Kendrick, Danks and Santana to Baltamore for Bedard, how can the O's say no to that? We would get that leadoff hitter that Ozzie conveys and we will also get that ACE type starter that most of us know we need.
  14. Well im a Konerko fan he has established himself as one half of the faces of this organization (Buerhle the other). But if there was a time to trade Konerko it would be this offseason while his value is at a high. Lets look at what we'll possibly get back: Figgins: (.330 avg, .393 OBP, 41 SB)- Figgins would solifify that leadoff spot that Ozzie has been craving for since 2005 when Pods played most of the season. His OBP is attractive but what defensive possition would he play? Im thinking most likely CF. Is he a decent center fielder? Kendrick: (.322 avg, .347 OBP, 5 SB)- This guy is going to be a stud in the league for many years. He will be our 2B for many years to come. No offense to Richar, but he has nothing on Kendrick! If he isn't involved in this deal than its not even worth talking about. Santana: (7-14, 5.76 era, 126 Ks)- Too bad this isn't the other Santana. But this guy is coming off a brutal season however, he still has nasty stuff and "Maybe Coop can fix him". I would probably take him over Saunders.
  15. QUOTE(vandy125 @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 05:54 PM) Yep. Maybe this is just a bunch of noise, and another move is happening behind the scenes. Every move that happened so far this offseason pretty much came out of nowhere (Swisher, Cabrera etc...) I wouldn't be suprised if another move was on the horizon. But to trade PK away, KW would have be blown away. I think an offer of Kendrick, Figgins and Santana would be a good reason to start listening to offers.
  16. Don't have time to read the whole thread.. whats the latest with this 'rumor'? KW shot it down correct?
  17. Its funny cause i remember watching O Cab all these years having unique little handshakes with his teamates. . I think Buerhle is going to love these guys...
  18. QUOTE(bmags @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 03:02 PM) hahahahaha YES hahaha yes what?
  19. Obviously trading Sweeney, Gio and DSL hurts our chances of adding a super starter like Bedard... do you guys think we still have enough in the system to get him? Would you guys trade Danks, Egbert and Uribe for him? WOuld it cost more?? Do you guys even think KW is going after another SP?
  20. Swisher was joking around saying that he will have to hop on that treadmill every day to get his cardio refreshed if he is going to be the every day CF. I really think he'll play LF. I'm kind of hoping Owens does well in spring training so he can be the every day CF/ leadoff man. The only other guy out there that KW could possibly get is Crisp to leadoff.. If Owens had 30+ SBs in the limited amount of time he had last year i think he can be a nice suprise in 2008 if given the chance for a full season. I wouldnt be upset if we get Crisp also...
  21. QUOTE(TheBigHurt @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) Don't we still have Crede and Uribe as bargaining chips? I think Crede will be dealt to the Phillies hopefully for a couple of decent prospects. Im just not sure about Uribe. I know Baltamore needs a SS after Tejada left.. maybe we can get a prospect or 2 there also.. I really think Crede and Uribe will be used to bring some prospects back into the organization. This team really needs a SP but were not getting it with Crede or Uribe.
  22. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Interesting, I still remember his start against the Sox late last season where he looked quite a bit like his old self. I really think whomever gets Colon is going to end up getting a bargain on there hands. I think a 1 year $5 million deal would be a risk worth taking. You pretty much get that money back once you trade Uribe. Throw in some major incentives and i think a deal could be had. This would be a great insurance policy because chances that 1 of Floyd, Contreras or Danks going to suck is pretty high.
  23. This trade would be horrible is Swish only had 1-2 years left on his contract, but we have him for 5 years!! That takes losing DSL and Gio alittle easier.
  24. What do you guys think the lineup would be if the season started now? I'm thinkin: Owens CF Cabrera SS Swisher LF Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Pierzynski C Fields 3B Richar 2B I just don't buy Swisher being the every day CF...
