  1. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Dec 11, 2007 -> 03:48 PM) I've been out for awhile, and just wanted to add my $.02 to just about everything. Huge trade for Detroit. Landing Miguel Cabrera will be great for their franchise... but at what cost? Andrew Miller will be the better pitcher than D-Train as early as 2009, and they gave up Maybin to boot (not to mention 4 other prospects of varying significance.) Sure, having Cabrera is great, but if he doens't re-sign with the Tigers they are in big trouble, though having Porcello in their system helps. This is a deal that could work out for them, but their offense was already sick so as far as it really making them that much better, I am unsure... it does give them a young monster in an aging lineup, so like I said, if they re-sign Cabrera, it works out... but if not... D-Train will get destroyed in the AL Central. So, everyone was pretty happy with the direction Kenny was going after getting Carlos Quentin, then Detroit makes a move and the world ends. I'm sorry, were we heading to a World Series before Detroit landed Cabrera? The reaction on this board was a joke... I say at least KW tried, he put everything the Sox could offer out there, and was just beaten by a better offer. So this makes him realize that his players aren't as great and perhaps more emphasis goes toward scouting in the future. What I hope happens from here on out in this 07-08 offseason. 1) KW pulls off a Joe Crede for Chone Figgins swap without adding much more than an Andy Sisco type heading back to Anaheim. Say what you will, Figgins would be a perfect fit in this lineup. 2) We ignore Kosuke Fukudome. Come on, $10+ mill for a guy who's never taken an ML at bat? Sorry, no thanks. 3) We sign Aaron Rowand. This allows Figgins to play 2B, and also gets away from Danny Richar being the permanent 2B. That has bad news written all over it. I never thought I'd be rooting for a Rowand signing, but at this point it looks like the White Sox have the power, with the Rangers even shoring up CF. Rowand's cost will come down, and the Sox will get him for something like 3-years, $12.5 million per. I can live with that. Those three things would make me feel better about watching the 2008 season. But I'll be there regardless. Good post broham. 1) Figgins would be a great 2B and leadoff guy on our team. But would Anahiem sacrifice their #1 and #2 guys in one offseason to the same team? How bad do they need a guy like Crede? 2) I was looking into Fukudome and heard his season was limited last year due to a season ending surgery. That is not very promising. He'll probably be a servicable player.. but i don't think he'll be that instant impact that the Cubs think he'll be. 3) Rowand is indeed the best option left out there. So no need to be stubborn about it... he wants to come back, he's the best free agent remaining out there, he'll improve our overall lineup and will improve the clubhouse. I think a 4 year 12mill deal would get hime here with a 5th year team option... Oh and you better give him a NTC for at least his first 2 years back... im sure he doesn't want to go through being traded again.
  2. QUOTE(BearSox @ Dec 9, 2007 -> 06:42 PM) Okay people, you must realize something... Konerko >>>>>>>> Kotchman and it isn't even close. I agree.. Kotchman would be much cheaper and would KW more flexibility in payroll but a Konerko/Crede deal for Kotchman/Figgins would be an absolutle rip off. Right now Figgins for Crede would work.. but the only way that works is if KW can sell that he is 100% healthy. And that won't happen until spring training most likely.
  3. QUOTE(toasty @ Dec 8, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) is this the rowand thread or the roberts man-love thread????? Roberts would be a HUGE piece to our puzzle. I guess thats why we are showing the "man love" for him. Since KW is in the 'win now' mode i say you do what it takes to get that leadoff hitter this team desperatley needs. Hell if Angelo finally realizes that his team cant compete with the big boys of the AL East for another 2-3 years why not get a couple of top prospects for him and try to rebuild the right way. I really hope KW is considering this.... Oh and as for the Rowand thread... it still is his thread... Nothing wrong with a little side tracking. Besides i dont think anybody on soxtalk would be upset if we bring in Rowand AND Roberts.
  4. QUOTE(GoSox05 @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) If the Sox were to sign Rowand. That would fill all the spots. Who would lead off? Has Cabrera ever been a lead off guy before? I don't think Cabrera will lead off... If Rowand comes back i think KW should make a strong push at Brian Roberts to be our leadoff/2B... Outbid the Cubs and then i think our team will be set.. . What do you guys think it will take to get him?? If the Cubs are offering Gallagher and Murton, i think we can counter with Danks, Owens, and Uribe who can replace Tejada once they trade him...
  5. yep pretty much the signing bonus means he will earn 15 million his first year and 21 million his second year.
  6. Willie is a cool dude and a good baserunner. As of right now our bench consist of Ozuna, Hall, Uribe, and probably Owens, eh why not bring the pimp back to southside. Lets not forget, he scored the winning run in 2005 World Series that brought home our title.
  7. Looks like the Sox are down to Fukudome and Southside legend Aaron Rowand. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/art...jsp&c_id=la
  8. QUOTE(My Dixie Normus @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 12:38 PM) This guy is fricken delusional. Perhaps someone should point out the Sox record to Kenny Williams. If he thinks two players can be the difference between winning and losing 90 games in MLB, he is, as many have suspected for a long time, a fricken idiot. 2005 was a great year but apparently, Williams is not the genius architect he portrayed himself to be. He was just one lucky SOB. Haha he's definitley on something. Maybe its the "i cant make deals, good trades" crack? He is losing a ton of credibility. If every other team in baseball wanted Floyd and Danks im sure we could have added Cabrera... Eh i guess he is speaking very highly of his young cheap average to below average pitchers because thats all he has left in bargaining chips other than Crede and Uribe or maybe Fields. KW stop your whining and make a decent move.
  9. Screw it. If the Sox are going to push for something big before the winter meetings end, why not jump ahead of the Cubs and offer Baltamore a similar package to what we offered Florida for Bedard AND Roberts. You do that and bring back Rowand at a reasonable price, than Sox fans just may back off at hounding KW at Soxfest 2008 this year. Roberts 2B Cabrera SS Thome DH Konerko 1B Dye RF Rowand CF Crede 3b Pierzynski C Quentin LF Rotation: MB, EB, JV, JC, whosever left after the deal. I actually think that lineup can hang with Detroit and Cleveland next year.
  10. Its not like Rowand is the answer to all our problems but was signing Hunter going to get us into the playoffs? The market is what it is.. Konerko would have signed a bigger deal THIS offseason if he was a free agent THIS offseason. As time goes on, the more and more free agents will make. And lets face it, we need a CF with a good OBP and average and Rowand is that. He's no superstar but he's a solid baseball player. At this point KW doesn't really have any other options other than Fukudome who the Cubs are almost certain to get. Just bring back the original grinder, and lets start talking about the next move.. probably a leadoff hitter of some sort... Or maybe even a SP.. Im sure he feels obligated to make some sort of a splash soon to calm some of the disgruntled Sox fans down. .
  11. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) Roberts and Bedard are better than Willis and Cabrerra I believe. Give them Gio, Danks, Fields, Richar and another AAAA pitcher. I wouldn't go that far. Cabrera is going to be a superstar for the next 10-12 years... However Bedard is WAAAAAYYY better than Willis.. in fact i can't wait to see the Sox hammer Willis next year. Roberts would be an amazing fit also.. We still need that leadoff hitter and he would fit in perfectly.. If it means sending Richar back down to AAA for another season than so be it. I also know Baltamore is shopping Tejada. And it looks like the Angels may a decent push for him now that Cabrera is gone. If that happens we can offer Uribe in the deal as well. Uribe, Danks, Gio, and Owens may be a good starting negotiation point for the Sox...
  12. QUOTE(spiderman @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 03:38 AM) what happened to the $75 over 5 years that was offered to Hunter ? exactly my thoughts... what a joke!! Sorry KW we've accepted your excuses last year with the whole "Market Correction" crap. But if you offer Hunter that much money and then come back and say "im not going to give you a dollar if i only have 50 cents to offer" crap, you lose a TON of credibility. What a joke this offseason is turning out to be... we might as well re-sign Erstad and sign Eckstein at this point. . I love how Kenny thinks he can do what he did in the 2004 offseason again... That 2004 team going into 2005 didn't have as many holes.. all we needed was a couple of pen guys a leadoff hitter and 1 starter. The rest of the team was pretty much filled. . The team we have now has waaaaaaaaayyy too many holes... this team is going nowhere fast.. and even JD sees that.
  13. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 5, 2007 -> 12:57 AM) The package they get for Johann will be franchise changing. Nathan will also bring back a nice package. If everything goes to plan for Minny, they will be set up very nice for 2010. As it stands, the same can't be said for the Sox. I agree... even if the Twins take a little step back next year (which i don't think will be that much back) there future is going to be very bright. The Tigers were willing to give up an aweful lot for Miggy but they are in a much better possition to win this year than we are... I don't care what people say about the 'promise' of Danks, Gio and Floyd.. they havent prove anything yet..and who is to say they will pan out? The Indians and Tigers have much better rotations than us... WIth the state of our farm system, i don't expect to aqcuire any major superstar via a trade for the next 3 years.. its free agency or bust..and its not like the Sox ever outbid other teams on "the big fish". Even if we get Anduw or Rowand we won't be able to keep up with the Tigers or Indians. As you can tell im a little pissed right now. If KW can somehow someway pick up Bedard, I would be MUCH MUCH happier.
  14. Well if KW is 0-2 on the REAL 'big fish' who the hell is left?
  15. Wow just got done reading the whole thread and this makes me sick!! We have no chance at competing with the Tigers and Indians next year.. And its not like the Twins got much worse with losing Hunter.. As it is right now we are the 4th place team in the division... Damn it sucks having one of the worse farm systems!!
  16. ESPN just reported that the Angels-Marlins deal for Cabrera blew up... Now is the time to get him Kenny!!! Wouldn't it be funny if the Sox came out of nowhere and got Cabrera kind of like how the Angels came out of nowhere to acquire Hunter?
  17. Its going to be Crede dealt, no doubt about it... Fields proved last year that he is capable or replacing Crede. I just hope we don't get a "Chris Burke" type of player for Crede... what Crede did in 2005 and in 2006 before his back injury he was damn good... and with a healthy back he can be even better. How about involve Crede in a super package for Bedard?!? I doubt that would happen but Bedard pretty much has made it clear that he doesn't want to be there, and Crede's agent BorASS wouldn't even talk to KW about an extension.
  18. I think we have a much better shot at getting a guy like Bedard over Haren.... . KW has been high on Bedard for like 4 seasons now..
  19. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 4, 2007 -> 12:41 AM) quentin and owens platooning? i dunno... wow, i didnt know carter was the number 6 best prospect.. I think this will go two ways: 1) If Kenny brings brack Rowand or signs Fukudome i think Owens starts in left field and Quentin is the 4th OF. This is because of the need for a leadoff hitter. 2) If Kenny goes ahead and gets Crisp to play CF, Quentin wil start in LF and Owens will be the 4th OF. Either way its pretty good situation to be in, this was a good move by KW.
  20. Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but the Dodgers decided that they will pursuit Andruw Jones instead of Aaron Rowand... http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnered=rss_mlb I thought the Dodgers and White Sox were the 2 top suitors... or at least that is where Rowand wanted to go. I wonder if his agent calls KW and decides to take that 4 year deal?!? Im sure he can play elsewhere for a couple million more/ season and an extra year to a deal.. but if you really want to be somewhere you somehow make it work.
  21. I think KW will be agressive on the first day tommorow and we will see a free agent signing and possibly even get a player via a major trade... I may be wrong... but im sure KW will be agressive early..
  22. I'm guessing Florida turned that offer down in hope to have the Angels offer even MORE... if they don't i can see Michael Hill calling KW and saying DEAL!! If that happens i sure hope KW extends him right away...
  23. Okay what is going on? Yesterday Rowand wasn't coming here (according to Cowley). Today, i read that there is an 'inside source' saying that his agent and the white sox are in talks... I really have no clue in whats going on... But a 10 million dollar/ season would be a STEAL in todays market. And yes KW the market correction won't happen anytime soon... I say KW works something out where he gets garunteed 10 mill/season and it goes up to 12 million in possible incentives.. (hits .300, makes all-star team, certain amount of ABs, RBIs etc....)
  24. QUOTE(WCSox @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 10:33 PM) Rowand/Owens in CF/LF and Dye would be a pretty decent OF for the next few years. With Fields in LF this year, Owens could be eased in as a fourth OF. As long as they don't give Hunter money to Aaron, I'd be all for it. KW pretty much mentioned a couple of times that Fields won't be out in LF next year. Either Fields is dealt as a part of a monster blockbuster deal for Miggy Cabrera or Crede is dealt. Both won't be on the team next year.
  25. QUOTE(G&T @ Nov 29, 2007 -> 12:48 PM) I actually kind of agree. I think he has a hope that he can land Crawford or Cabrera, but he doesn't have the chips. I'm getting that feeling that he'll make a move for Crisp, then say they are done. But it's usually when I least expect something to happen that a move is made. I highly doubt Tampa would trade Crawford now since they just shipped off Young. I also am beginning to agree that KW has no plan... Whatever happening to getting a lot of things done BEFORE the Winter Meetings? Im guessing everything he is offering to the other teams is just not good enough... it seems like every trade he has done the past 2 seasons, the other GM came up to him... thats no good.
