My ideal off-season would be picking up Dye's option than trading him and either Vaz/Garcia whichevr the Astro's want for Oswalt and maybe a bench player or minor leaguer or something. Resign Riske assuming he doesnt tank the rest of this season. Sign Gary Mathews Jr or Mark Derosa... both having great years for Texas.. preferably Mathews. Than trade either Vaz/Garcia whichevr wasnt involved in the Oswalt trade plus Uribe and a prospect for Jimmy Rollins SP:Mark Buehrle SP:Roy Oswalt SP:Jose Contreras SP:Jon Garland SP:Brandon McCarthy bullpen: Bobby Jenks, Matt Thornton, Mike MacDougal, David Riske, Neal Cotts, ??? Lineup: SS: Jimmy Rollins RF: Mark Derosa/Gary mathews DH: Jim Thome 1B: Paul Konerko 3B: Joe Crede C: AJ Pieryznski 2B: Tadahito Iguchi LF: Josh Fields CF: Brian Anderson It probably isnt all that realistic but its what my ideal off-season would consist of. If Derosa and Mathews jr. prove not to be near as good as they are with the bat this season just switch them with Iguchi. But I think both will be pretty good maybe not as great as they have been this season.

Ive never seen a fielder lose the sight on so many balls....

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 11:29 PM) The problem with your Angels plan is that I count 3 players who still don't have positions in their IF. Casey Kotchman, Dallas McPherson, and Brandon Wood. Yes, Wood is another year away in my opinion also, but Cabrera is also signed for 2 more years. Well they could always trade Cabrera in next year's offseason.... As for the other 2 I think both of them pretty much flopped in the big leagues especially McPherson... so I wouldnt go out of my way in trying to stick them in the lineup. But if they trade GA which they should one of them could DH.

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 04:14 PM) well obviously i can't know as much as you do. malone could have a decent career as a lefty reliever. like a buddy groom type if you know who that is. he's 25 and missed a couple of years to surgery. i can guarantee he won't be on the "official" future sox list b/c if he makes the majors it probably won't be with the sox. broadway could be a bottom of the rotation guy. gives up a ton of hits and doesn't strike too many out. limits the walks and homers. picked mcculloch ahead of him b/c i'm hoping he's got a little stronger arm. i'm trying to be optimistic. Well he is 25 and still in AA and he isnt really even dominating it....Also according to some he doesnt have the same type of stuff since coming back either. He might make the majors but I wouldnt count on him sticking at all. Broadway has dominated in AA and no he doesnt have ace stuff but id say his ceiling is better than a bottom of the rotation guy... not an ace but u discredit him 2 much.

QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) here's my top ten. fields is about the only guy who i'd call a "top" prospect, and he's no sure thing. fields sweeney mcculloch broadway whisler haeger malone (prolly a 6 year FA though) getz lucy nanita You obviously dont know much about the system to have Malone anywhere near the top10. I like him as much as the next but he is a near non-prospect now. Also Broadway is ahead of Mccculloch or whatevr no doubt. Based on talent alone im guessing Anderson Gomes is on the top 10 too. Also despite struggling in AA Harrel prob on there and maybe even Valido.

He is having a great season this year and all.. but if the Astro's want a hitter how about Jermaine Dye? His value probably will never be higher than it will at the end of the season and it would prob take another prospect like Broadway but to get Oswalt its well worth it. Than we could deal both Vazquez and Garcia in the off-season for missing parts or reloading the farm or whatevr. 95% chance if not more it wont happen... but its a thought i guess. Would make the 2007 team closer to the 2005 team.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 04:33 AM) I'm going to guess that they're not happy with his control. He'll be back in W-S by the end of the week. His control is the one thing that's really holding him back, because, from the sound of it, when he's ahead in the count, he's about as hard to hit as anyone in our system. Maybe Coop can work with him in Spring Training Even so why would he be removed in the 1st inning.... leave him in and see if he can work out of it and improve.

AND THATS A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!!!!!!&#
GoodAsGould replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Well I guess the good thing is our starting pitching staff is attempting to get a little better. Contreras had a solid outing and Buehrle just had a great one. Also Freddy Garcia has had a decent last 2 starts keeping us in the game and Garland has been great as of late besides the hiccup vs the O's. Now we just need to get Vazquez on board and maybe we can go streaking. -
This is a bunch of bs...

Harrel got removed after .2 innings... had 3 walks a ground out and a strikeout so dont know what the deal is.

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
GoodAsGould replied to hammerhead johnson's topic in The Diamond Club
If Liriano goes down for period of extended time the Twins are done...If they fall 5 games out they might as well stop because they arent going to pass 2 teams. Also id hope they would than callup Garza and Bonser and we can see what the future holds for them. -
QUOTE(Hatchetman @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 02:19 AM) kyle kane, johnny ruffin, jason bere, danny wright were power guys we drafted. royce ring i guess. i'll never know why the hell we drafted him. I still think Wright could of been great.... 2 bad he got hurt or something really messed him up.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2006 -> 12:00 AM) It's not that they have the best record, it's that they're the best team, playing the best baseball, in the best division. Until the defending champ is beaten they are the team to beat... maybe not the best team but the team to beat none the less. -
overall im satisfied with our scouting though.... Most of our minors dont make the big leagues with us but they are a big part of how we make our team. Garcia, Vazquez, MacDougal, Riske, Thornton, Sandy, Uribe, and Cintron all on the team from trading away prospects.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 11:18 PM) OK, let's brainstorm then, what potential names are there playing SS right now who could be leadoff hitters for the right team? Eckstein - SS - under contract for 1 more year IIRC Renteria - Braves - huge contract with Boston paying 1/2 of it for the Braves, was terrible in the AL Cabrera - Angels - huge contract, good numbers, but the Halos are very reluctant to make trades Hanley Ramirez - Florida - no reason I can think of why they'd give him up Izturis - Cubs - very low OBP Anyone got any others? He isnt having a great year but Jimmy Rollins would be more ideal leading off than Juan uribe would.

QUOTE(RKMeibalane @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 03:16 AM) Except for the time he spent on the DL, Frank has been an everyday player for Oakland. Nah he has to share sometime with Jay Payton......He is mostly there everyday but more than most everyday players he sits.
-
I think the best position to look for a new leadoff hitter is SS. Sure Uribe is fun to watch and all and during his streaks he can carry a team. But it would be nice to have his bat helping more often because this season most of it he has been a hole in our lineup and while still good his defensive hasnt been as good.
-
Well Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens are both in their early 40's... thats more than long enough career anyone can wish for. King Felix is only what 20 years old he is going to be great dont worry about that. Pedro can hit 90 a lot he just has trouble with the upper 90's but still can throw a heater every so often. Schmidt has actually gotten better late in his career than he was early on. And Peavy is still young just an off year... he was the era leader at what 23 years old?

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 06:00 AM) You obviously did not watch much of the past 4 games The O's and Royals are not good teams, but the Sox did not play like crap. giving up 4, 11, 8, and 4 runs in the last 4 games isnt crap? If we werent facing a bunch of crappy pitchers we would be toast. The only good pitcher we faced we probably should of lost... against a closer who previoudly only 1 BS. Im ecstatic that we are starting to win now... even if its against bad competition... having these 2 teams back to back couldnt of been better timing. But like I said I wont believe this team is really on the right track until I see what they do against a good team(Toronto).
-
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 1, 2006 -> 04:46 AM) That's what I call a true fan. what that im not a blind homer and when another team has a 7 1/2 game lead and we been playing like crap I dont think atm we will over-take them. Right now we are behind the Yanks in the loss column in the wildcard race... so thinking about overtaking the Tigers takes 2nd to that.
-
well im assuming we will at least take 2 out of 3 and i know I shouldnt but im almost expecting to sweep them. So than Ill judge this team with how they do vs Toronto. The Jays are a good team so if we take 2 of 3 or even sweep than ill be back on this team's bandwagon.
-
If he can get back in time for the playoffs... Sanchez, Heilman, Hernandez, Linebrek, and Wagner will be a pretty damn good bullpen for them.
-
Wasnt he just traded to the Mets?
