Top 3 web gems in White Sox history
GoodAsGould replied to WhiteSoxfan1986's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If a player is charismatic it doesnt matter where he plays he will be famous... A course that would probably be heightended by playing in New York or Boston but in Fisk's case he would be well known even if he played his entire career in Chicago. -
Anderson because he doesnt let his poor offense messup with his great defense.

Top 3 web gems in White Sox history

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 04:17 PM) Molina was a step from 1st base when the ball got to Konerko. He certainly didn't have time to do anything besides what he did. And it was the 9th inning in a save situation. It had a rather large significance to the game. And how can you say it's overrated? Nobody in the history of baseball has done it. There was more than a step from Molina and it was overated in there were sox defensive plays that had a lot more significance in the past by far greater players than Iguchi that I would of liked to seen instead. -
QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) A couple months ago, anyone would've taken Miguel Cabrera over any young player in baseball. Now after enough fluffing from ESPN, Wright is better than Cabrera? They are somewhat even. Miggy I think is the more talented player but at the same time he seems to have a pretty negative attitude and sometimes comes off as lazy. Also Wright has shown to be a great clubhouse guy and also has hit for more power. If I had to choose between the 2 to start a franchise I think I would probably take Miggy though given his talent and ceiling.. but right now ill take Wright.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) Because, no matter how you look at it, those two plays are just unbelievable. I STILL can't figure out how the hell Iguchi got that throw off. I think the Iguchi play is still a bit over-rated. He had a lot of time to make that throw and forced it kind of and part of what makes a great play is its significance in a game and that play didnt really have a huge one. -

Didnt Jose Valentin have a play where he tagged out 2 baserunners at 2b? That to me was more fun than the Fisk play. Also how is it possible that 2 of the top3 webgems in the history of our franchise are within what 20-30 games of each other. -
Well not that it seems he has officially turned the corner can anyone post an updated scouting report on Wes with the kind of stuff he has and possible ceiling in the majors.

Toronto has really tailed off... b4 that id say an argument could be made for both but now that the bluejays have fallen flat Id say the East is once again a 2 team division. I still think if they add a f/a SP to go with Lilly, Burnett, and Halladay and maybe a bullpen arm they can be a really good team next season.

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 05:59 AM) Wright has 5 extra HRs because he is in a better lineup. The Fish have Cody Ross batting cleanup alot for petes sake. stop making excuses

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 05:10 AM) Cabrera is actually better than Wright defensively. Cabrera is the 5th best defensive 3B in the NL, Wright is near the bottom. Thats according to Baseball Prospectus. As far as conventional stats, they are equal in errors with Cabs having more chances, Cabs has a .955 F% to Wrights .953, Cabs has a 2.63 range factor to Wrights 2.47, and .744 zone rating to Wrights .742. Cabs also has a better arm. And I'd venture to guess that Cabrera is a much better hitter than Wright. Cabs: .336/.430/.554 this year, .308/.380/.529 career Wright: .314/.388/.552 this year, .306/.377/.533 career Cabs has a higher slg% despite 5 fewer homeruns, and Cabs also has much less protection. Wright K's more and walks less. As for my comparisson of Wright to Zimmerman, Zimmerman is putting up the same stats that Wright did at the same age. And he plays better defense. Cabs is also younger by 5 months, and has almost 700 more at bats. He was a 20 year old rookie in a pennant race, which has skewed his stats somewhat. Well defensive stats arent really all that great and I consider myself a baseball fan as in I watch as much as possible so ive seen lots of Zimmerman, Wright, and Cabrera. And regardless what the stats say Cabrera is not a good defender and ill take Wright over him at the hot corner. They both arent that good but Cabrera comes off being lazy sometimes. Zimmerman is a great defender but he isnt the threat that Wright/Cabrera are with the bat. Also Miggy hits more doubles which gives him the higher slugging% but ill take the 5 extra HR's which are guaranteed runs. Also Wright is a much better baserunner and has stolen 5 more bases and caught 1 less time than miggy doing it.

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 05:13 AM) Awesome? His WHIP had to be something like 9.50 or something. He survived. That's it. considering the lineup plus the umps inconsistent strike zone... And the fact that he pitched out of all those tough situations is what im giving him props for. Most pitchers in the same position give up a boat load of runs and we lose but he fought through it.

Vazquez only went 5 innings but he was awesome tonight all things considering. Although I think the one thing thats been bothering me especially his last 2 nights is on some batters he seems to go non-stop outside. Although I guess so far it has worked against him but still would like to seem him go inside a little more.

QUOTE(MarlinFan84 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 03:58 AM) Well, I am a Marlins fan remember. But anyway, I saw Wright listed as the 3rd best hitter in baseball...he's not even the best hitter in the NL East, but he's the best hitter in baseball. ESPN is a shrine to him. I think Wright will make a few all star teams. But, in terms of skill and potential, Ryan Zimmerman looks to be the exact same player. Except Zimmerman plays good defense, something Wright does not. He gets protection from a great lineup. But still, any day of the week, there are more than a few 3B I'd take over David Wright. Well Miggy Cabrera is even worse defensively and their offense is similar. So besides Eric Chavez and Scott Rolen its hard to find a 3B that is definitely better than him. Take A-Rod out of New York and he would be probably but he probably would be a SS too though. Miggy is maybe a better pure hitter but not by much and less power also worse defensively. Ryan Zimmerman is definitely better defensively but he isnt as much of a threat with the bat as Miggy or Wright. Also I think all 3 are better than Chipper Jones now.

that thing was drilled!!!!!!

this entire series has been soo poorly called... There should be a penalty for a series that has been this bad. I can understand 1 game where the Umps blow it but for both teams this has been pathetic.
-
Yeah I have no clue why B-Mac wasnt there to begin the inning... it was a situation where you want a rp to go 2 innings if not 3 and you bring in a guy who has trouble going 1.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 03:27 AM) Javy comes out and blows away Posada on 4 pitches to start the 5th. Go figure. Mark Teahen had an RBI double and scored the tying run during that rally in the 8th KC had to beat Boston. Good to know we aren't the only team he batters into submission. He has been hitting the ball well ever since being re-called up. Next season if they call up both their top hitting prospects and if Sweeney ever stays healthy they can be a pretty tough lineup. Gordon I think is the type of talent that contributes right away and the other guy cant remember his name sucks on defense but rocks with the bat.

Whistler just keeps on getting better and better.... Becoming my favorite prospect.

Who will be the best QB in the league this year?

QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 11:21 PM) Well, LJ did have like 1400 yards and 13 TDs in 9 starts last year. Yeah but he has lost 2 important blockers going into this season which might hurt. But than again LT has a rookie QB so its all gravy. -
can our pitchers ever have a 1-2-3 inning after we score them some runs?
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 10, 2006 -> 10:27 PM) Calling Jeter overrated is ignorant. He has 4 rings and he's posted consistently solid numbers throughout his career. I'd say a .316 career batting average is awfully good. His OPS for his career is also in the mid .800's which for a SS is respectable. How is he overrated? You can be good hell even great and still be overated... Brian Urlacher was named most overated player in the NFL and he is one of the best if not best MLB in the NFL.

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 02:28 AM) Lol, another error? nope cant assume double play./

So let me get this straight. The Steelers fan thinks Hines Ward is a top5 reciever and the Dolphin fan thinks Culpepper has better weapons in Miami than when he had Carter/Moss.... interesting -

wow how is it possible no one has had a 30 HR season for what 19 seasons... I could maybe understand 40 but wow thats kind of pathetic but at the same time they have been pretty successfull as of late..
