QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) 5 years $50 million is a good place to start. Dunno if JR would go 5 yrs. I'd start at 3 yrs, 24 mil with incentives to protect myself against his back. 1st yr: 6 mil guaranteed, another mil in performance bonuses 2nd yr: 7 mil guar, another mil in perf bonuses 3rd yr: 8 mil gua, another mil in perf bonuses Fair offer to me but to Bora$$, I'm sure he'd tell me his client couldn't live on that considering he's curing cancer, I mean, playing baseball

QUOTE(klaus kinski @ Oct 2, 2006 -> 03:32 PM) He's on now Regarding Crede back surgery-says his agent advised him not to- Could be they wanted him to have it. Of course Bora$$ told Joe not to get the surgery. His commission wouldn't be as much then

Least the Astros went down into the final weekend fighting with no excuses, more than anyone can say for the play of the White Sox the last 3 weeks.

All yr long, we've read and heard in papers and talk shows that the Sox are "tired" still from playing an extra month last yr. Well, the NL Champion Houston Astros (Who played more games in Oct than the Sox did) have won 9 consecutive games and are 1/2 game back of Division leader St. Louis. Granted, they're playing in the NL, which is barely a step-up from Triple A but funny how I haven't heard a word from them about being tired from last yr's playoffs to make the run they're on right now

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Sep 27, 2006 -> 06:51 PM) It would seem the wiser choice to improve our pitching two fold -- trade Garcia for a package centering around pitching; insert McCarthy into the rotation. This potentially improves production (both in rotation/bullpen) AND saves money. It's win fricken win. I agree, trading Garcia would be more beneficial to the team and payroll for future seasons to come. Least we know Brandon would give his all regardless of who the opponent is

I absolutely loathe the Twins and don't like the Tigers much. Big Frank is on the A's and nothing would please me more than to see the Big Hurt murder those two teams in the playoffs. If it's a NY/Oak ALCS, same deal. Although, I don't hate the Yankees as most people do since Jeter's a classy player and A-Rod gave the Sox props for winning the title last yr.

QUOTE(diegotony06 @ Sep 22, 2006 -> 06:07 AM) Tim Kurkjian also said he spoke to a source close to the Whitesox and said that they really miss Rowand because of the enthusiasm he brought to the clubhouse and also Carl Everett because last year he would come in the clubhouse and if the players were watching tv before the games, he would shut the tv's off and say "alright guys no tv, we have to concentrate and get ready to win a ballgame today". Maybe Carl was right at the beginning of the year when he said we have no vocal leader that will take charge in the clubhouse. Just something to think about. All I know these guys are making way too much money, to not at least bring 100% to the remaining games. I could understand if they were all ready eliminated, but they aren't. And although it would take a miracle to make the playoffs, they are still in it, and a win last night would have cut the lead to 4.5 with 9 to go. But these guys have mailed it in already. It just really is disgusting and a shame. The fans supported this team and it just laid down!!! If those are some of the reasons why they didn't do so well this yr (Rowand and Everett), then this team is more pathetic than their manager said last night You don't need rah rah guys to hustle out a SB or a double or not let a guy steal 3rd on the throw back to the pitcher.

I just don't get the "tired" excuse and having to play extra games in October contributing to uninspired '06 play Pauly and other players have mentioned. They had 3 days rest between ALDS and ALCS and 5 days rest between the ALCS and the World Series. It's not like they played epic 7 game series in the ALCS nor World Series. AND THEY HAD 4 DAYS OFF DURING THE ALL-STAR BREAK THIS YR! And if the WBC really led to Freddy losing velocity, then they should have given him April off and let Brandon go in his place. Blah! I'm so tired of hearing them say they're tired. Isn't that why Ozzie created the infamous Sunday lineup for the last 2 yrs so they wouldn't be tired?!?

If I were going to the game Sun (I'll be up in Minny rooting the Bears on), I'd give a standing O to Dye, Thome, Konerko, Crede and Pods. You say why Pods? Well, we all know that'll be his last AB wearing a Sox uniform and he gave me the greatest thrill I ever experienced at a baseball game when he ended Gm 2 of the '05 World Series. I know he's a poster boy for this yr's failures but it still doesn't mean we can't give him props for what he did for the White Sox

QUOTE(The Critic @ Sep 18, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) I'm in, but I think they're out. They're out and boy, they can't convince us otherwise. That series in NY right after the break told us all but we refused to believe it till now. They look tired and desperately want the season to end. I wish I knew why but that's something they'll hafta answer at SoxFest and during '07 Spring Training.

Leave Thome alone. It's not his fault the entire pitching staff from top to bottom was consistently inconsistent for the entire yr. The guy carried them through April and May while the pitching stunk. He couldn't possibly do it all by himself for the next 4 months.

QUOTE(sin city sox fan @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 10:00 PM) Was it a solid base hit at least? (I can't see the game) I hate it when no hitters are broke up with broken bat singles, etc. It was a solid shot into center field. Freddy hung a curveball and Kennedy waited back on it perfectly. Brian had zero chance to try to make a play.

QUOTE(jphat007 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 09:50 PM) Man. Even when we are up 8-0 I'm nervious as hell. Nervous about what?!?
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 09:41 PM) Freddy has made the corner of ESPNEWS. Its big time now. Shoot, since this game is WGN, the entire country can pretty much tune into this now And I don't like Freddy much either but to not root for him right now is absolutely asinine
-
QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 07:53 PM) I don't care if he was safe, why attempt it? The blind squirrel (Cora) eventually found a nut. Yet I'm sure Ozzie will be sure to praise for him for it after the game.
-
Agreed. The time for just winning series is gone now (Not that the Sox did a good job of that in the last two weeks anyway) It's a mandatory rule that they now go for series sweeps of the Detroit Tigers, Cleveland Indians and the goddamn Minnesota Twins to get into the playoffs. There are absolutely no exceptions to this rule and the winning 2 out 3 crap has no business here anymore since a series victory only gains them one game on the WC and division.

QUOTE(cgaudin @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 01:38 PM) That was the straw that broke the camel's back, people. The fuse IS indeed lit!.......and this season will blow up in our faces in comical fashion. I can't remember a more talented team that folded without a post-season berth since......I can't come up with anyone. Had we broken apart the team, a la 2003 Florida Marlins, I would understand. But in the eyes of every baseball analyst who knows anything about baseball, this has to be one of the bigger mysteries that the Sox didn't reach the playoffs. They ARE loaded with talent. But the hunger simply wasn't there. There was also too much tinkering and experiments taking place. It's mind-boggling, and as much adulation as there was to go around last year, some heads have to roll this year. Let's get Pods out of left field, since he won't be there next year and see what Sweeney can do in 3 weeks. Get McCarthy to start a couple of games to evaluate his progress, and dump all dead weight, Garcia, Cotts, Vasquez. Go Sox in 2007! If the Sox are eliminated by the end of this weekend, I agree wholeheartedly. Play the rooks and let's see what they can do (That includes Anderson, Ozzie!) Although, I wouldn't pack Vazquez's bags just yet. Least he's trying his hardest unlike Freddy, who can't get out of here fast enough for me.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Sep 13, 2006 -> 11:39 AM) This team doesn't dersve to go to the playoffs. How are they in contention still? I would rather see a real team represent the AL Central then this joke of a Manager ruining our team. 4 games out of first, and 2 1/2 out of the wildcard. This team has to win at least 14 out of the next 17 to even have a chance, IMO. And you know what, go twins. they stepped up this final month, ready to try and not only take the wildcard, but the division as well. And look at their team talent and salary wise to this team. You're right about the Sox deserving to go to the playoffs. They don't. But I HATE the punch-n-judy Twins so much that I want to see the Yankees obliterate them in the playoffs yet again. I'll root for Detroit if they stumble in though. And I don't get the heat on Crede for whiffing to KRod. Crede OWNED him in the playoffs last yr, it was a matter of time before a good pitcher like KRod to get a good hitter in Crede out

QUOTE(mu mu @ Sep 11, 2006 -> 07:41 PM) If the twinks don't fissle with the rotation, we're due to see Liriano, Bonser and Santana on the final weekend. fiddle! Not fissle. If the Twins have wrapped up a playoff spot come that Sunday, Santana won't be pitching in that game. We will see Liriano no matter that Friday. Detroit has KC for six games. Hopefully, they can be a pain to them as they were to us and the Twins.
-
And yet another base hit for Babe Ru, I mean, Jason Michaels.
-
Great, another Sox hitter in the leadoff spot that looks at strike 3. I know Sweeney's a rook but common baseball knowledge tells you when the count's 1 - 2, you can't look to walk anymore.
-
QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 02:13 AM) Cotts can't hold them to thirteen. Guess Ozzie has the Indians in his pool then cuz here he comes!
-
QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 02:10 AM) I love that we're keeping Haeger in instead of getting guys like Cotts and Riske some work. You have the Indians in your 13 run pool?
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Sep 8, 2006 -> 02:07 AM) not to get anyone's hopes up...but that tribe bullpen is ripe for the picking. If we had some pickers, that is. Doesn't Betancourt usually shut the Sox down or is he stinking up the joint this yr? And Jermaine doesn't know how many outs there are. He just put his head down and ran to 3rd. That won't do much for your MVP chances.

Yay, a hit with a runner in scoring position, think I'll break out the Dom!
